The Pho bowls here are decently priced(pricey compared to LA, decent in DC ) but the servers are so slow. We come here during lunch all the time. Their service is quick. I always get their vegetarian Pho with steamed tofu. They are always generous with the amount of vegetables they add (this is not the case with most Pho restaurants). I also love love love the avocado smoothie! I always take one to go. read more

I decided to get in on the pho "phrenzie" even though I am a few years late for that! I have had pho before but not at a restaurant. Pho 14 in Van Ness seemed like a reasonable option, location-wise and it had gotten great reviews. We arrived at 7 pm and snagged the last table. After us, people kept coming in and there was no room for them to sit (I don't know if they take reservations). With the weather 8 degrees below zero, pho could be a really attractive food option! The restaurant was packed and there were only 2 servers manning the floor. We placed our order a few minutes after we sat down but did not get our appetizers until 45 minutes later! The main dishes arrived a few minutes after the appetizer. We were not in a hurry but we were very very hungry!!! The reason I am giving this place 3 stars is their amazing food. The pho was great. My husband and I love the soups here and often stop by after work for dinner. What I was delighted to find out is they deliver! I couldn't imagine how pho soup would work for take out. We ordered two bowls of the shrimp pho. I was amazed to see the care they take with the delivery. It arrived in separate parts - two bowls with the shrimp and noodles and little bags of basil, jalapeño, bamboo shoots, lime wedge plus some chili sauce on the side. What was really amazing was the broth -again in a separate container - arrived piping hot. All we had to do was assemble and eat. I've been fighting a cold and sore throat and my fiancé suggested getting some pho since my aunt had told us it was great to help fight a cold. I ordered the pho ga and it was really good. I was nervous since it was my pho experience. But the chicken, the broth, the herbs: all delicious. Horrible experience!!! I DO NOT EAT PORK!!! I also don't eat any of the other meat they serve. I specifically ordered from here because of the seafood selection. I ordered the seafood spring rolls advertised through their online website. He repeated back to me "seafood spring rolls." I bit into my spring roll and lo and behold I bite into PORK!!! We've eaten at Pho 14 Van Ness once and gotten takeaway twice now and the both of us (wife and I) have been pleased with the quality of the Pho. The service is polite and accommodating, the decor clean and pleasant enough (most Pho joints we've eaten at look like cafeterias, so this one is swanky in comparison). Keep in mind that the Van Ness location is spanking new, so there are growing pains... some of the staff are new, so be patient if they have trouble ringing up the bill or what not. I didn't drop a star for this as I'm sure things will smooth out over time as the staff comes up to speed. Overall this is a fine option for Pho, and given the lack of eating options around Van Ness, it is a much needed option. I will say that the best Pho we've had is from Pho 75, but since the closest one is in Clarenden (VA), Pho 14 is now our go-to for local Pho. read more

Glad that there is a Pho place so close to where I live now! This is a good place to get pho if you don't have the time to travel to the Eden Center in Falls Church (the mecca of great Vietnamese food in the area). The meatball pho has been good each time we visited and my partner loved the beef and rice dish that he ordered. However, the prices are a bit steep for a pho place, even one that operates in NW DC. I love a good bowl of pho. This is a GREAT bowl of pho. The broth is balanced, beautifully layered with flavor and just plain feels good in my belly. Seriously, this soup broth is outstanding. The toppings were fresh and ample (not like another nearby pho joint that has no basil or jalapeño...what?) and the meats were nicely cooked and also voluminous. Had the #22 which is the flank, tripe, tendon, meatball pho. For $12 it was amply sized for the price. Bonus: taking the soup home to add some more pho noodles and toppings later tonight. I would caution against going around when they first open as the smell of the cleaner they use to wash the floors will burn your eyes an paralyze the palate. We generally do takeaway from pho-14 so my review is mostly of the food from that vantage point. Pho: Delicious. The vegetarian version is great. Lots of flavor and the accompaniments work out great. Vegetarian spring rolls. I'd get these over the vegetarian fried egg rolls, which are pretty gross. The last batch of the fried ones were inedible and really oily. Banh mi chay. Good,but could use more vegetarian filling. Banh Mi Ga Nuong: good, and sufficient filing. Banh Mi Ga Nuong: really small, and eh. advice is to stick to the pho, the other dishes Ive had here are just ok. read more

Well this has been the local go-to place for me and friends to have a bowl of Pho. They have fairly good broth in comparison to nearby places (still a bit sweet for my taste, but could be easily fixed with some lime). Let's just say that we were very happy because we don't have to drive to Northern Virginia or to Rockville to get a good bowl of Pho. If I was reviewing this place a month ago I would give it 4-5 star. I am giving this place a 3 start today, because recently they decided to make the portion significantly smaller (I always order the large bowl)! I noticed this reduction in the last two times I was there, and my friends who went there in other occasions also reported the same thing. Come on, why don't you just increase the price? Most people including myself would be happy to pay more, it is inflation etc., and most people tip well anyway so a bit extra wouldn't be a problem. We felt cheated! A friend of mine said that she and her boyfriend wouldn't come back. In my sincere opinion, I don't think this is a good way to do business and I hope the owner of this place would read this review and do something about that. read more

The location is great, close to the metro (even though parking is hard to find). The drawbacks are portion and services. We ordered the appertizer egg roll, grilled pork with rice, and smal pho - the most expensive Vietnameae order for its portion. $5 for 2 tiniest spring rolls I have ever ordered. Normally when I pay$5, I get2 huge ones, so big restaurants have tocut in half. Now the thing about expensive food is that ppl are willing to pay high price for a small portion in an upscale restaurant. This one is NOT. Average restaurant with so so service. Waiters are not rude but always seem rushed, too fast to ask for what you want/take your food away, etc. They made me tired - not how I want to feel while enjoying a meal out. One time, I was served cold egg rolls at dinner (they seemed leftover from lunch). Recently, I tried their overpriced meatballs as an addition to pho. While I was eating, a woman came in to order a takeout and the waitress completely ignored her and when she was giving back the lady's receipt, she said "stupid bitch". I came to this restaurant because I heard a lot of hype from one of my good friends. Its nicely set up and a very welcoming restaurant that gives you a warm family oriented feeling. The food over here is unbelievable! From eggrolls to the specialty pho soup,one thing however in my opinion is the best,is their Thai tea which is to die for! Their staff is remarkable;especially our server Kim. When it comes to customer service,she takes it to another level.....everything you would expect in even upscale restaurants! She came and greeted us with the biggest smile and would come by time from time asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything else to better please our experience. This is what most people look for when they go into any restaurant,simply excellent service by their staff! I ordered the c'om Dac Biet, Grilled Pork, Shrimp, & Beef (substituted pork for chicken) to-go, & paid a total of $13.65 for the food, & what I received was offensively small. The box contained three small cut pieces of off-colored chicken, 3 tiny pieces of tough gristly beef, & two small shriveled up shrimp & a whole lot of garnish. The portion size was smaller than a kid's meal. I am unsure as to whether the kitchen was trying to preserve food today, or the establishment normally tries to pass off that minuscule portion as a meal for a grown adult, it is unacceptable either way. (I had the Pho before & it was normal in size). I was in a big hurry, but asked the very nice lady who prepared the to-go bag why the portion was so small after I caught a quick glimpse, & she said because shrimp cost more... Robbery. Each of the two (2) frozen shrimp included were smaller than the head of my plastic fork (pictured). Still hungry & there are grown men 4 times my size. Buy a $5.99 rotisserie chicken from Giant next door, and a box of rice & save yourself the to-go box full of disrespect lol. read more

Pho 14 has been my go to for pho in DC for a few years now. We'd been going to the one in Columbia Heights for awhile and were thrilled when the one in Van Ness opened up which is closer to where we live. The thing that puts this pho place above all others is simply the amazingly flavorful BROTH. It is so good and I'm always drinking the broth down to the bottom of the bowl. Spot on meat quality and tasty noodles. The only reason I give it a 4 stars rather than 5 is because I feel this location has been cutting back on the quantity a little bit, and giving fewer noodles and meat than when they first opened up. Maybe I'm being paranoid or maybe my capacity for noodle intake has grown exponentially since frequenting this place, but just a little thing that I've noticed.
