One of my favorite places to get pho in Garden Grove. I've been coming here for decades, ever since my college days; I love coming here because they are open super early (5AM to 9PM). I usually get the rare beef, brisket, and beef balls. The cuts of meats here are delicious and plentiful in every bowl. The broth is a beautiful, layered and clean tasting broth, with plenty of veggies to put into your bowl. You can pick the thin or thick cut of noodles here; I like the thin noodles, they are perfectly chewy. Service here is phenomenal; I have been greeted by the particular male and a female server many times over, as they both have been here as long as the store has been opened. It feels like home when I walk into the store. The store is neatly decorated, showcasing some of its delicious dishes on the walls. You may find some things on the counter, selling some awesome homemade chili and ginger sauces, and various other things. read more

I went to Pho 86 today, and unfortunately it will also be my last. I ordered the oxtail pho, shrimp summer rolls, a plain small bowl of pho with no meat, root beer, and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The total bill was over $49. I asked how much the oxtail pho was, and I was told it was $20 for a small bowl. The pho came with only two very small pieces of oxtail, which appeared to be tail-end pieces with very little meat and mostly bone. I wouldn't have minded paying the price if the quality had matched the cost, but the biggest disappointment was the broth. The soup lacked the rich, aromatic pho flavor that makes a good bowl of pho enjoyable. Overall, the portion, quality, and taste did not justify the price. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. The food and service were subpar at best, ridiculously bad at worst. When we arrived, we ordered a phở đặc biệt and a miến gà. Upon receiving it, we noted that both the broths were lacking in flavor and tasted diluted. Moreover, the phở broth had a hint of sourness, as if there was something rotten/old. We saw another review that noticed similar things, and where the owner chalked it up to "the end of the day". Keep in mind, we arrived around 5:30AM. The meat in the phở was okay at best. We had to stop eating after a couple bites of both soups, and decided to not take any leftovers home (there were still 2 full bowls). What really soured our experience here was the bill, as what should have been a $30 meal ($14.50 per large bowl as said on the menu + tax) came out to around $36. We asked for a receipt, and the lady at the front began rambling about the different charges they snuck in after. Apparently, they charge for water ($1 each) and choosing breast meat over dark meat ($2.50, when the server did not indicate it would be an additional charge). When we asked to see the menu again to see where this notice was listed, the lady pointed to a barely legible handwritten sticker on the menu that said, "mỏi thức lên giá (every item increases the price)." She continued trying to explain why they nickel and dimes us, but at that point we were done with the experience. If you are going to charge for every little thing that is standard at other restaurants, either state it clearly on your menu, disclose it to your customers prior to ordering, or refill the waters that we apparently payed $1 each for. If you are looking for a phở place, this is not it. read more

I have been to this pho place before awhile back. Today, I went here with my dad and we got pho tai dac biet. The pho tai dac biet has two sizes (small and large). The pho was delicious, great flavor, and aromatics. The beef was soft, smooth, and easy to chew. The noodles are soft, chewy,and bouncy. The service was fast & employee is very nice and friendly. The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. There is plenty of parking. I would definitely come back here if I would want to have a good pho for a cold day. read more

NGL the line at phoholic was too long, so I went to the nearest pho joint. It happened to be Pho 86, which is diagonally across the street. There was plenty of parking. The parking lot is huge. (Iykyk phoholic has like no parking) I saw signs that said pho ga hai nam, so I decided to try it. It came with a garlic sauce and a small bowl of hot broth, which was delicious. The rice was on the dry side, so I wouldn't order this again. The pho dac biet was satisfying. You can get a large size of this for $0.50 more. I think they forgot to be diligent with removing fatty parts. There was literally two chunks of inedible yellow fat. I ordered an appetizer of egg rolls (4). This was pretty good! I wish it came with more greens other than lettuce. I would get it again. The garlic sauce from my rice was good with the egg rolls too. Service was good. There weren't too many patrons, so I felt they were very attentive. There was one lady who spoke English well, but everyone else said very little. Credit card is accepted, but there is a fee, maybe $0.50, to use it. They also charge $0.50 to take out orders. read more

The food here is excellent. My favorite order is the Pho Dac Biet and an order of the Beef bones. The broth is full of flavor, and the meat is tender and filling. Soup reminds me of my childhood eating Pho and it is flavorful and aromatic with fresh herbs and veggies served on the side. The service is always top notch, and workers are kind and attentive. Tiffany is always so nice with a bright smile and treating her customers with respect. Outdoor seating is available for dog owners. Highly recommend this place. Used to love Pho 86. It was our go-to spot back in the day and we always enjoyed supporting a local mom-and-pop business. Recently came back for dinner and was honestly disappointed. The broth lacked the depth and flavor we remembered and tasted more like canned beef broth. When we mentioned it, we were told they were already aware (have no intentions of fixing it) and that it's expected toward the end of the day. Be careful! They rang up my bill by just punching in $47.80 in the cash register without adding up each item. I had mentally added up our meals and knew it cost $39. Add OC tax and it would be about $42. Tried to claim I didn't see the extra $2 for dark meat on the pho ga (not there on the menu) and then said they raises prices but it's not on all the menus yet. So I paid their fake inflated price and took back the tip (she was also the waitress). Now I have to check my credit card statement to make sure they don't add extra costs onto my bill. The manager of this pho restaurant is very dishonest. I ordered 2 chicken pho soups and 1 well done brisket soup. I was not told by the waiter that the menu price was an additional 10% more. Also, we were not told that if we ordered dark meat for the chicken that they would charge us extra $1.50 for each soup ordered. The waiter did not mention that the rice noodle would not be the thinner noodle but the thicker one. When we got the soup we did not get chicken pieces but chicken feet with the skin on it. The soup was terrible and it had little pieces if bone in it. The soup that we ordered with the well-done brisket was not cooked at all. It was uncooked and not well-done. Pretty decent Vietnamese food. My sister came for the beef bone with tendon. That was pretty massive. The eggs rolls were bigger than expected and very good. Spring roll was fresh and tasty. Pho broth did not disappoint. The restaurant is clean and service was excellent. Server checked on us regularly. I went to this restaurant at around 11:45am, lunch time. I was a little surprised that there was only 1 customer (to be fair, there were 2 more by the time I left), because this place used to pack. When they brought my beef pho out, the toppings were beef, but the broth was totally chicken pho broth. I complained to the cook who happened to walk past my table, but he just brushed me off. Didn't wanna waste it, I ate as much as i could, but had to give up half way through. Beef pho doesn't go too well with chicken broth. After paying, I mentioned this to the owner who was tending the cashier, but she had no reaction. None. My husband picked up a small bowl of rare beef pho for me. They open from 5:00am - 8:30pm EVERYDAY. The packaging was very careful. The broth is in its own container and the noodles and rate beef in another. There's also a bag of fresh vegetables. The broth is light, not too deep. I enjoyed it with extra lime, hoisin and Sriracha. I think it's a great restaurant for someone dipping their toes into Vietnamese food. read more

With so many amazing pho restaurants in the Westminster area, I was surprised this restaurant is still in business! We normally go to Pho 79 (the best pho in town) , but decided to try something new since we were in the area . My whole family and I were so disappointed by the quality of the meat as well as the broth of pho 86!! The broth was flavorless, watered down and lacking the pho aroma we were all expecting! We veggie was seriously lacking with a couple sad looking stems of basil and wilted saw leaves! We will never come back here. One of the few businesses that is still open in the old Starer's Bro parking lot. The have nicely covered outdoor seating. Decent COVID precautions it seems. People are seated away from other tables. I got Pho Tai to go to try this place out. The get the to go ready in record time (took like 2-3 minutes!). Pho soups is in a styrofoam cup and the noodle and Tai in a small Chinese takeout paper box. They asked if I want thick or thin noodles, and I chose the thick noodle. Due to COVID, they charge a little bit extra for take out. I reheated the soup when I got home. Tasted good - on par with other restaurants.
