The pickled veggies were a great tangy side, and the Mama Hieu's sauce that comes with it tied everything together. I ordered over the phone and customer service was friendly. Tip: If you order through the app, you can skip the wait and get a free garlic noodle. I think it's only for your first order on the app, though, and I'm not sure how long the deal lasts. Wings -- 3/5 The wings were okay, but pretty mediocre. I got one flat and three drumettes, which was a little disappointing. The flavor and crispiness were both kind of lacking, and I ate them fresh too. The seasoning reminded me of that lobster green onion sauce you'd get at a Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant. Spicy Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich -- 4/5 The sandwich was definitely better. The chicken had a good crisp to it, but sadly, it was overfried and wasn't cooked evenly. The edges were noticeably darker than the center, and the chicken itself was thinner than I expected. The sauce didn't taste like anything particularly special either--it was giving spicy mayo, if anything. The vegetables and pickles made the sandwich taste similar to another famous chicken sandwich place. I actually liked it overall, but because the chicken wasn't fried evenly, I'd give it a 4/5. I came here because I heard the sandwich exceeds Howlin' Rays, since I've had both, I would say that it is just a different version - think granny smith to Washington: it's just a different animal in taste and texture. I thought the chicken was done well, but it did. Fall apart as you grab it and bite, Howlin' would be a thicker cut that is juicy and does not fall apart. This version has some Vietnamese veggies in the sandwich which is not what you can find at Howlin'. In terms of pure chicken, it was slightly overdone at the edges but still was very juicy. The sauce helped a lot more than it should for a standalone chicken sandwich. The garlic noodles are not amazing, it just felt like boiled noodles and with residual heat it got the garlic and cheese to meld into it, nothing note worthy. The chicken pieces, we got the garlic wings. The sauce or flavor did not stick well to the wings, it was just a nicely fried wing - the sauce just fell to the bottom, texture wise not amazing. The sandwich is probably the thing to go for here, nothing else was note worthy for me. Get the house sauce as well, you will need it for that extra oomph. I was obsessed with Mama Hieu's back when they were serving out of their house during Covid, so very excited to see them grow into a storefront. Since then, they've also got some new flavors too. I made a pick up order online ahead, but still had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes when I arrived. For the four of us, we ordered Mama's Family Pack ($45), which includes 20 wings, garlic noodles, fries, and sauces. Since it only includes two flavors as we opted for Salted Eggyolk and Fish Glazed, we also added an additional 4pcs wings in Garlic Butter and Andy's Special, so I could try everything. Of all the flavors, I enjoyed Andy's Special and Fish Glazed the most as the sauciness was more flavor. The egg yolk was so subtle that I didn't find the flavor being a standout. The wings are crispy and I do appreciate the Asian flavors though. As for the fries, they're as is. The garlic noodles were decent, but a tad on the softer texture for my liking. With all this fried food, we paired a large order of Pickled Veggies ($8), which was much needed to cut through. This was so refreshing to have with the chicken and alone. I was making it a habit in coming here when they started their weekly wednesday promos where $4 for 4 wings and then the following 2 weeks it was $8 for 8 wings. When I would come inside, I would see their other limited time food items, like their brussel sprouts and order that as well. I really enjoyed their brussel sprouts and now sad to see it gone. I joined the Mama Hieus App which makes ordering ahead easier for pickup. I really like the app bc its simple to plan your dinner ahead. You can pick the day and time you want to pick-up. If I could make one request, is if you can give customers (me) the option to pay like extra $1-$2 for their orders to be ONLY FLAT WINGS on small orders. The chicken is so well crispy and coated and the non flat wings are too meaty but then carry less of your delicious seasoning in my opinion. Does that request exist? Wanted to update this review to a 5 star based on the customer service I received from Jimmy. Long story short, I ordered from wings wednesday and was largely disappointed when I received certain wings that left more to be desired. I'll just leave it at that. Much to my surprise, Jimmy understood my problem and aimed to make it right again. After explaining to the cashier, I was very happy with the resolution. Additionally I wanted to talk about the Andy's Special House Box and revise my review to 5 stars based on this new offering. Andy's Special flavor is reminiscent of Asian Weddings where one of the dishes include a lobster and noodle garlic, green onion (scallion) mix. It is quite delectable. Somehow, Mama Hieu's has incorporate this flavor into the chicken wings to create the most satisfying crunch as each wing is covered in this batter, drenched with this sauce. Original garlic chicken: 8/10 honestly kinda reminded me of salt and pepper chicken wings. 2. Spicy garlic chicken: 8.5/10 reminded me of salt and pepper chicken wings but spicy. Spice is bearable and is similar to the spice level of spicy mayo. 1. Fish sauce chicken: 9/10 I just had the chicken at folks - I liked the fish sauce glaze but not the chicken itself. So my expectations were low, but this place exceeded expectations!! The chicken is so hot, juicy, and crispy. I wish the sauce was more of a glaze but I still enjoyed it. All chickens: bit into it and steam was coming out- along with a loud crunch and the right amount of juicy chicken meat. We wanted some fried chicken, and this popped up on yelp. I mean why not try it since it had really good reviews and who doesn't love fresh fried food. We opted to get it to go and maybe that's why it wasn't all that great. I placed my order of: 1 Mama's Family Pack which comes with 20 wings any style. We opted for 20 salted egg yolk wings. This was $45 and also came with a side of garlic noodles, side of fries, and 3 dipping sauces. We also ordered 8 fish glazed wings for $15. The salted egg yolk wings were not good. I can barely taste any of the salted egg yolk. Even though I can see small bits of it on the wing. I felt like it was lacking or maybe we got a bad batch... all 20 of them. Everyone else that ate it said the same thing, so this wasn't just my opinion. The fish glazed wings were better and we can taste the flavor on these. I would prefer these wings over the salted egg wings. I do wish we gotten more variety pack to try the other 2 flavor wings. The fries were fine and the garlic noodles were a bit dry. I've been ordering from Mama Hieu's since their house kitchen days and I'm happy to say their quality and flavor has not changed since opening up a brick and mortar. They even came up with other items and flavors, including my recent favorite Andy's special. Think house garlic ginger scallion lobster sauce that you get at Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants in fried chicken form. It's sososo good I almost prefer it more than the OG.
