I came here after craving pho all week and was excited to finally get my fix. I really appreciate that there's parking in the back, and you can also walk in from the park -- that's a nice touch. When I arrived around noon, the restaurant was completely empty. I ordered a basic chicken pho. The broth was actually very flavorful and delicious.... honestly, that's what saved the experience for me. It didn't need much in terms of seasoning, which says a lot. That said, I was a little underwhelmed overall. The hoisin sauce that came out was extremely watery, and I wasn't given much else to customize the bowl (it came with bean sprouts, lime, and bay leaf...and some onions in the pho). Even when the broth was tasty, I still like to dress my pho up with hoisin, chili sauce garlic flakes, vinegar, Sriracha. The whole lineup! The limited condiments made the experience feel a bit flat. The worker, however, was very attentive and kind, and I genuinely appreciated the service. Because of the flavorful broth and the great service, I'm giving this place three stars instead of two. With better condiments and a little more attention to those details, it could easily be stronger. read more

The place was clean and the person serving was so very nice. It's a great spot with parking in the back though it can be tight. I just was so disappointed at the Pho Ga (chicken). It was just so OKAY. I'm not sure what else to say!! The chicken was sparse, the broth so average or below and the additions (sprouts, lime etc) so again ... geez . Typically with Vietnamese coffee, there's a coffee bitterness, sweetness, and thicker texture from the condensed milk, none of which mine had. Pho broth has 0 flavor. It tastes like watered down beef broth. They skimp on the the pho toppings. For a large pho bowl they give you one tiny 1/4 of the lime and then charge you 25 cents for every 1/4. Give you 4 thinly sliced jalapeños and same as the lime, 25 cents for any extra. Ridiculous. Theres so many pho places in the DMV area I would skip on this place unless you don't mind wasting your money to get skimped. read more

All I can say about this place is stay away. I don't usually leave negative reviews but I felt I needed to do that for this place. First off, my friend and I got here to grab a quick lunch while waiting to go to the Patient First a couple of doors down. It was a cold day so a warm bowl of pho was in order. We should've seen the signs when we saw only two other tables with customers at noon on a Sunday. There was only one person doing the service and it took her a long time to come to our table. Then another guy came in to do a takeout order. She gave him the menu and then several minutes go by and she still has not gotten our order. Then it irritated us when she then took the other guy's order before ours when we were seated there for ten minutes before that guy even showed up. We should've left then but whatever, people make regrettable choices from time to time. We each ordered cha gio (crispy spring rolls) and two bowls of pho. The server was too busy to get us utensils so we just grabbed ones from the empty table next to us. Back to the food... The cha gio were all wrapper with hardly any filling. And it was so thin like the size of two cigarettes. Just terrible. The pho was not much better. The bean sprouts were most brown and not fresh. The pho itself had very little cilantro and green onions and worse, hardly any meat - even though my friend ordered the combination with all the meat. His bowl had less meat than mine and I got the steak and brisket. The flavor of the pho was also subpar. I tried to enhance it with the hoisin sauce but there sauce they had seemed watered down, not thick, so it lacked flavor. We hardly ate it when Patient First called and said they could see us. I eat Vietnamese fairly regularly. Specifically, I always order whatever lemongrass chicken and rice dish the restaurant offers. I had a hankering for Vietnamese and decided to try this place. Ordering online was easy, and the food was hot and edible, but the chicken had NO seasoning whatsoever. Just plain grilled chicken, white rice, and steamed broccoli (which I could've made much cheaper at home!). No cucumber, tomato, or onion as is standard with this dish at other Vietnamese restaurants. It did come with a tiny side of fish sauce but I would not order from here again. Went to Pho 88 on a Saturday night around 5:30 pm. We were the only customers. They have a station at the front for take out order. A very kind lady greeted us and answered our questions and took our order. About 10 min wait she said. She waved us down before the 10 was up and had our food hot and packed up for take out. We walked home to eat it and it was very refreshing! It doesn't taste too salty or oily. Highly recommend beef tendon too - it was very tasty. Thank you, we will be back! read more

This is a decent place. The pho noodle soup was good, but not great. Some of the meats in the soup had a grainy mouthfeel, not all of the meats, but some of the meats. The meats should almost melt in your mouth, but some of them had a grainy texture. Also, the soup had too little meat in it. I ordered the number one (Tai Nam Chin Gan Sach, which had eye-of-round steak, well-done flank and brisket, soft tendon, and tripe), plus a Vietnamese hot coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The coffee was good. I also ordered the red bean ice-cream for dessert, as well as the pennywort drink, which were both good. On a separate note, the prices on the online menu were not consistent with the menu. I did not order any beer, but it would be nice to see some Vietnamese beers and even Vietnamese craft beers. I'm gonna have to blame Thuy L. for this one. Thuy? Are you out there? Are you reading this? It's all your fault! :-) It all started with Thuy asking me if I'd been to Pho 88 in Falls Church yet. I had not. I had not even heard of Pho 88. So I figured out where it was on a map, and armed with that deadly information - I knew that soon - I would be walking into Pho 88. And so it was that day, that fateful day - where I would be exposed to potentially new Pho goodness - was today! (sounds overly dramatic doesn't it?) :-) I would have missed this place just driving by normally - it's right on Route 7 in Falls Church. There is no parking out front - I drove around the block and found parking in the rear of the building - as well as a rear entrance. It was about 2:00 pm - so the place was mostly empty - except for two other tables. I ordered the Summer rolls and a small bowl of Pho Ga with white meat. The Summer rolls came out - AND - they were quite a bit different than any other Summer rolls I've had. The noodles in the rolls were piping hot. Every other place I've been - they are served either at room temperature or even slightly chilled. For the experts out there - question - are they supposed to be served this way? In any case, the temperature of the rolls did not appeal to me. I'd like them at room temperature. Then the Pho came out. The aromatics and veggies al looked and felt fresh. I must say - the broth was absolutely fragrant and delicious. I ate most of the soup without adding Sriracha to the broth - but I added small amounts of Sriracha to individual bites. 1 star for the Summer Rolls, but the Pho Ga, service, and ambiance earn it the overall score of 4 stars. I just ordered lemongrass beef with rice and lemongrass beef with vermicelli from pho 88. Both dishes are such SMALL portion as I wonder if a kids meal would be larger than these. A few very thin sliced beef and scattered bean sprouts layer around the rice/ vermicelli. Also, the beef slices are just lack of flavor and dry. This place is trash. The broth is clear so they must dilute it to get as much money as they can out of every batch. The broth tastes like salty chicken broth. Was only given less than a handful of bean sprouts for two orders of pho. Literally had only had 7 slices of meat.... On top of that had hair in my soup. WTH.. Their fresh spring rolls were 95% vermicelli noodles. they split ONE SHRIMP for TWO spring rolls. They literally sliced the shrimp so thin so they could use only one shrimp for two spring rolls. Fried Chicken Wings: What?! Yes, this grease heaven was the best thing on the menu! 2. Other selection of pho 3. Lemongrass chicken with white rice. OMG DO NOT ORDER THIS. Basically steamed chicken with a pinch of salt (added a pic to the business). I am sad to report that was not even one piece of lemongrass. When I asked the waitress, "where is the lemongrass in this dish?" she looked confused and just replied, "yes, lemongrass". I then ask, is it suppose to be only the flavoring and not the actual lemon grass (like at any Vietnamese restaurant)? She just walked away. Overall, this pho place is definitely catered towards a particular crowd with a lighter palette. Everything here tasted bland. The pho was so salty, it was hard to swallow. One thing to note is that this restaurant is not run by Vietnamese people, or at least not anymore? Phreakin' Pholicious!!! I'm sick as a dog and stuck in Ballston with no pho nearby....so I search around online and find this place, which turns out to be an easy busride away..... Yowza, and yum! First of all, it was jam packed inside I was lucky to get a spot at the bar (bar is misleading, it is bar type seats at the window, not a spot for getting liquored up), but I'm happy with it because there is a spot to put my feet up while I eat and read. The staff were really friendly and quick. I had to share my siracha (or as I like to call it, my hot cock sauce) with another fellow at the bar and the table behind me, but instead of being an imposition it merely strengthened the neighborhood homey feel of the place. My large Pho Ga was really large, not a wimpy large at all, and the chicken in it was one of the finest I've had! The pieces were smaller and more tender than most other places I've been, but there was plenty of it! My to go package (because I knew I'd want more later since I am sick and miserable) was done really nicely. The noodles and chicken are seperate from the broth and there is a gigantor bag of sprouts-basil-jalapeno WITH a little container of hot cock sauce!!! Maybe it's because we came in an hour until closing, but I didn't find anything remotely remarkable about Pho 88. At $5.95 for a small bowl of pho, the price point was perfect. The service was friendly and welcoming, ranking above average for a pho joint. The menu was easy for non-Vietnamese to navigate, with the pho section being the only area of the menu that had Vietnamese on it. My boyfriend ordered the "crispy chicken" vermicelli bowl and I got #5. The entrees get points knocked off for presentation. The crispy chicken was two generous pieces of fried chicken breast, sliced and placed unceremoniously in a large bowl of iceberg lettuce, julienne carrots, and bun noodles. It came with a small dish of nuoc mam. I sampled a bite and it was prepared well and the meat was juicy and tender. However, growing up, I cannot recall my mom preparing "crispy chicken bun". Its Vietnamese authenticity is suspect, but if you enjoy Japanese chicken katsu, then I'm sure you will like their rendition of this dish. The accompaniments to my pho were very fresh, but amounted to a giant pile of bean sprouts, one Thai basil, one lime wedge, and 3 slices of chili pepper. The broth was clear, the fragrance light. There was a hint of spice that I usually can't detect at other pho places, but that was all I could get out of it. It didn't have that hearty beef flavor that I was looking for. My pho featured three types of cuts of meat, and it seemed like I only was served 3 slices of meat. I finished my bowl and but felt dissatisfied. Again, maybe it's because we came very late and got the leftovers of that day, but I felt they were stingy with the garnishes and meat. I'm willing to give it another try just to prove it wasn't a fluke, but I left feeling unsatisfied and thirsty, despite drinking a glass of water. I'm in no great hurry to return. read more

Cute little pho shop on the broad st, my boyfriend brought me here because it's his favorite pho shop within the area. I however am really picky when it comes to pho because in all honesty I'm not a huge fan of pho but this place I wouldn't mind coming back too! I really really enjoyed the broth and meat! They give you a lot of meat which isn't fatty and pretty good quality. Their broth is excellent, has a lot of flavor to it and almost tastes like a chicken broth similar to ramen places I've been too but i personally like that! When I eat pho I only get egg noodles instead of rice but this is the only place I really enjoy the rice noodles because of their broth and meat. Their pho is excellent however I must admit their egg rolls and mozzarella sticks were decent. First off this is a Vietnamese cuisine and they sold mozzarella sticks which was weird but I was craving them so whatever. Their mozzarella sticks weren't bad they were just kind of bland especially with no dipping sauce. You can tell they make their own mozzarella sticks by their breading and such which is kind of cool! Their eggs rolls were a little bigger than most places I've been too and had way more breading than stuffing inside of it which was a little disappointing but they weren't completely bad, just not the ones I would prefer compared to the egg rolls at pho sate. Overall, I plan on coming her more often since it is closer by, the pho is good and service is always friendly! I'd say this place is worth a shot if you've never been. read more

Firstly, the service was inexplicably slow, despite three other customers in the dining room. It took 30 minutes from the time we placed the order to get our veggie Pho. If I wasn't with company I definitely would have just cancelled the order. Strange that other customers who came in 10 minutes after we were seated got their orders promptly. The veggie Pho featured a sodium- laden broth, overcooked rice noodles which clumped together, and a meager about of vegetables. The tofu was equally sparse---probably amounted to 3 grams, and wasn't cooked properly. The vegetables may have been fresh but with just a tiny amount of broccoli and mushrooms, this 'Veggie Pho' was simply salty broth. We can still feel the after effects ( dehydration). I made the mistake of adding hosin sauce which contains MSG ( highly allergic to this exotoxin). As a result, I suffered some pretty bad insomnia. I recall eating at Pho 88 about 6 years ago before so many other Pho restaurants opened in the area.
