Came to this casual Vietnamese place with my partner to get some pho. These days I feel going to restaurants isn't worth it unless it's for food that is difficult to make -- pho is one of those. The place had one or two other people seated for lunch on a Friday. We were told to sit wherever we liked. My partner got pho with extra meat, and they brought the extra meat out in a small bowl, which was great to see that it was indeed extra. I got pho without meat (their only option for pho less than $10). They gave plenty of the classic toppings (bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime, chilis). We also got the fresh rolls as well. The rolls were not as good as I've had at other Vietnamese places -- there were no herbs in it which would've really improved it. The pho itself was delicious and definitely worth getting. read more

Pho 88 has been our go-to pho spot for over 10 years, and the most impressive thing is the consistency. The taste has never changed--the soup base is still rich, clean, and deeply comforting every single time. That kind of consistency over a decade is rare. Service here is exceptionally fast. This is an average pho restaurant. They offer chili oil which I think is a plus! They give out a lot of bean sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeños. However, the meal we had was nothing but average. Workers lack communication and tried to accuse us of leaving without paying. I told the worker I was paying for me and one other person but the person did not charge me for the other persons food and just charged me for my food and she did not say anything. So as we were leaving (because we thought everything was paid for) the workers stopped us and told us the problem so I told her that she did not listen when I told her what I was paying for so I simply asked her to charge me and she proceeded to be rude about it and explain the issue many times when we knew what the issue was. The flavor of the broth was good. Different from other pho places. Today's broth was heavy on the anise. Meats were top notch cuts. Garden Roll was fine. Hit the spot with all the ingredients, but the star was the peanut sauce. Also ordered the vietnamese Iced Coffee. Horrible. Took a sip and couldn't finish it. I'm not one for confrontation, so I didn't bother to complain. No other customer ordered the iced coffee, so that should have been a tip off. This restaurant is located in a strip shopping center for more than 10 years. We had dinner here on a Friday night on 10/4/19. It was crowded with only one table free for us. We ordered regular size bowls of pho (#15 eye of round steak) for $7.79 and fried egg rolls (2 pieces) for $4. We were expecting the egg rolls to come out first since they were appetizers, but they were provided at the same time as the pho. It took 15-20 minutes for our meal to arrive. Everything was hot and delicious. In contrast to other local Vietnamese restaurants, the pho here has lots of noodles and meat in it. The egg rolls were crispy, not greasy. I tried this place after going to Pho 68 in Greenbelt, MD. They recently began closing on Tuesdays. So I Yelped other Phos in the area and came upon Pho 88. They would have received a 5 star except they don't usually have vegetables fried rice. They did, however, prepare a dish for me and it was alright but not as good as Pho 68. The portions are also greater by quite a bit. I'll pick this over Pho 68 most of the time. read more

The Vietnamese egg roll comes with 2pcs and I'm presuming the guy who brings out the food also cooks the food which isn't good because his disposition is quite sour. First off who does not steam bean sprouts? Everywhere else if you ask them they steam the bean sprouts for you if asked. She got very smart with me. Second broth just smelled gross. It had no depth flavor. Just plain gross. My fiance asked for no white onions and they still put it in his pho. Some of my meats had the color red tips. No water refill. We were never asked if we needed anything or if everything was good. They just sat there on there chairs. The summer rolls were huge and filled with lettuce and mostly rice noodles. Pho was good. I like the #3 with brisket it's very tender with all the other goodies. Bf has #1 with flank and all other goodies. We shared a fresh roll order. They are not like at home in Seattle. This place serves up some of the best pho around. The perfect broth, the noodles, the tender meats, and the super fresh basil and veggies to mix in, all add up to a "pho"-nomenal taste experience. They have a great selection of smoothies and bubble drinks on the menu too. If for some crazy reason you decide to order something other than pho, the portion sizes are huge bordering on ridiculous. At Pho 88 you can really feel the love. Reading through the reviews i was surprised to see some people had some really bad things to say about this place. I don't get it.
