I was craving some pho and my friend said this is one of the best places in Oakland (he's a local) so we popped by on Sunday night. Food: I got their chicken pho with added veggies. So good! My friend got the beef pho with added meatballs and as usual, he loved it. We also got the shrimp freshrolls which were decent. Service: Super quick! We wanted something cheap and filling so it always comes down to pho. Note that this place is not in the best location, but the restaurant is big and there is plenty of seating. I got the pho with steak and & fat brisket. It was pretty good and satisfied my craving, but it wasn't anything amazing. The service was quick and I like how they have the menu underneath the glass on the table so you don't have to wait for the menu. Overall, it was okay for a quick and cheap meal. read more

I'm tired of cash only places. There must be better ways to money launder in 2019. Still, I keep finding myself withdrawing money at the Chase bank and paying the $3 fee so I can toss it to Pho An Dao. I like to shovel the Pho Ga into sick children. The eggplant dish is delicious. All the noodley doodely broth stuff is a solid 'B.' I was pretty stoked when Pho King opened across the street, but those asshats didn't bring me my tea and took 45 minutes to cough up a bowl of Pho. Due to laziness and lack of better options in walking distance from my house, this solidly mediocre establishment will probably keep getting my dollars. My bf and I love doordashing here as well as calling for pick up. this is such an underrated place. Their pho taste really good and the broth is delicious. I love pho and eaten at many pho spots around the area but this is still so far the best one out of all. This use to be my childhood spot when my parents would always take me. Pho Anh Dao has to be the Worst pho joint in oakland. Not really sure why people still support a weak ass place like this. The service was ridiculous. Why do they let "No English speaking dumbasses" be waiters. I asked for a soda and it comes out warm with no ice. I asked for water, the guy comes out with another vegetable plate. The whole pho bowl was glazed with oil and very bitter. Why was it bitter? I have no damn idea. The meat was rough and tough like leather. I took only a couple of bites and left it as-is. As I was sitting here at work, half-asleep still, I perused my FaceBook profile to suddenly discover that I made over 80 reviews since I first joined the horde of Yelpers back in October. What a feat! Does this mean I'm full of hot air? Things that make you go "Hmmm"... Well, let me add more ammo to the fire. Let's talk about pho. Whenever I'm in the mood for a good steaming bowl of beef noodle soup, this is the place I go to. Not far from the 'rents, I could walk there if I wanted to, and they're right next to Baggy's, making this walking adventure even better were I to partake in suchness. But mainly, I drive the 4'ish long blocks cus I'm just that lazy. Regardless, the hizzy on the Pho Anh Dao is that the peeps who own this joint are super great. They know me and my family extremely well (since we go there like ALL the time!), and we're always greeted heartily. The food comes quick and piping hot and oh soooo good. Recently, they renovated the place, and added a 2nd LCD up on the opposite wall for your viewing pleasure. My dad once gave them some huge ass goldfish for their tanks, but I think they all died cus my dad likes raising obese fish. What, never seen a fat ass'ed fish before? Come on over and I'll show you. We've been coming here for years and I took birthday dude here for a cheap birthday lunch (his choice as he could have picked something more expensive). It was quick and satisfying as he had to get back to work. We ordered the extra large #22 to share and the Vietnamese chicken salad. After driving around E 14th / International Blvd at 7PM on a Friday and finding every Viet place closed (Pho King, Cam Huong, Huong Que, Pho Oakland) I circled back and saw the lights on here. I decided to mix things up and got the Pho Ga (Chicken pho) . . . don't do it. I looked quizzically at the brownish broth. Tasted it. Yep same cinnamony, extra clovey BEEF broth that comes with their beef phos. On the plus side the chicken was nice and tender and the noodles were well cooked. I ate the chicken and noodles and left the broth. Not that I don't like beef broth, but it was a weird combo. Just stick with their beef phos, unless you like your chicken soup made with beef broth! :( read more

I've been going to Pho Anh Dao for over 10 years. They offer good, solid Pho, Bun Cha, Bun bo Hue, Goi Cuon and other egg, rice noodle dishes as well as a host of delicious beef, pork and chicken dishes from North and South. They are open late, and offer great service with a big smile. The veggies are fresh and abundant. Note - I would only give them 3 stars...but the extra star is for being open late. Most other Vietnamese places have this annoying practice of closing between 7 and 8 PM. Lastly, it's a mere 10 mins drive down the hill from my house to this place...so a late night craving for Goi Cuon can quickly get sated, along with a large steaming bowl of well prepared Pho...one of life's simple pleasures. I had gone there today after a hiatus from eating out, and I have to say, nothing's changed. Everything is exactly how I remembered it. Today I had the deep friend imperial rolls, an order of Vietnamese style fried rice, and an order of bbq chicken with rice. Ughh! I wish I could stay there all day. Everything is on point. From the chicken, to the egg, down to the steamed rice. Every little detail counts. I can honestly say I've had better Vietnamese food nowhere else. I'm not too familiar with pho joints in the East Bay, let alone Oakland, but this one is not too shabby. There are plenty of tables for groups large and small, and the whole place is pretty clean (at least until one of my friends knocked his glass of water onto the table/floor). I ordered my usual stand by of beef pho with rare flank and well done brisket (with no cilantro!) so I could compare it with other places, and they met my hopes/expectations. They offer a lot on their menu, and they're budget friendly too since they have multiple sizes of pho (my hefty bowl was approximately $8 I believe). The broth was flavorful and not heavy on MSG, and the ratio of meat to noodles was pretty balanced too. Let's face it, you never want to end up with a disproportionate amount of meat or noodles at the end. Not sure when I might be in the area again, but I would certainly come back. I would give them 3.5 if I could, but I'm knocking it down to three cuz I saw him partially "thumb" a couple of bowls for our table. And in case you have no idea what that means, it's when the waiter delivers the bowl to your table with his thumb gripping the inside of the bowl, and the broth splashes up against it. I'm white, but my girlfriend is Vietnamese, so over the years I've prided myself on my taste for good pho. My girlfriend agrees, this is THE BEST RESTAURANT PHO we have ever had. Only thing that is better is her moms. The rice dishes and what not are solid. This was the BBQ pork chop over steamed rice and veggies, which was solid. But honestly, just get the pho. And go with someone that knows how to prep the pho properly. Coming from a traditional white boy, I promise you that's key. Best pho in the east bay. Great prices. Everything else is solid too. Great bun bo hue here. My favorite piece of protein in bun bo hue is the pork blood and theirs was tender and flavorful. The soup was had an excellent balance of savory and spiciness. Also tried the regular beef pho, I really didn't like the pho noodles they use. Having the right texture of the noodles is pretty important. Will be coming back again for the bun bo hue. read more

I like the Vermicelli dish with the chicken, prawn, and Imperial Rolls. Chicken is nice and tender. =) The pho, on the other hand, is not mind-blowingly delicious...but it's not bad either (especially when compared to the ones in Berkeley which I abhor). Meat-to-noodle ratio is good. Broth is nothing special ...somedays its flavorful and somedays it's diluted in taste (too much water?). Speaking of water, their service is much to be desired of. Every time I ask for water the waiters looked at me with a "what-the-eff?-You-want-water?-Really?" look...as if it was the most unusual thing in the world. I remember one guy shifted his eyes nervously and instead of refilling my water like most places, he would just get me another glass of water. This happens very often. Lately it's been getting better. Hilarious though! Okay, I'm done now. They also open past 8pm (closes around 10:30pmish maybe?) which is a HUGGGGEE plus for me because all other pho places in Oakland seem to close at 8pm for some reason. The last time I ate here was over 15 years ago because I found a roach in my Pho. I decided to give it a second chance and it seems to improved on the cleanliness. The pho is just OK but doesn't taste fresh. It tastes like they added a can of beef consommé to their broth bc it's very dark color. I know my fresh broth soups and this one is NOT 100% fresh. I thought this place was decent a few years back, but went there tonight and it was just alittle blah. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls and when it came, there was only 2 shrimps per roll, which usually in other places it is 3 shrimps. Also, didn't really care for the peanut sauce that came with it..very watery. I got the seafood pho and it was ok. The broth looked alittle dirty to me when it should be alittle more clear. The food is disgusting. I haven't been here in years, because I didn't like it back then. Since the places we like were closed on Tuesdays, we resorted to this place last minute. My dad and nephew ordered beef pho. They added pork in it with only a couple pieces of beef and tendon. I ordered the bun bo hue, big mistake! It was so salty and nasty, I added almost a whole glass of water to it. They also put a bunch of pork in it in place of beef. Not only was that shady, the meat tasted disgusting. Most likely that's that it is.) -Mess up on to go orders half the time -Best Bun Bo Hu (43 I think, it's called spicy beef) I like food that has a bold flavor so I use to order Pho and the Bun bo hue here a lot. They are open pretty late and there is a Chase bank right next to them. So you need to get cash before going in because they don't take credit card, food stamps or IOUs. Ordered shrimp spring rolls, a regular pho dac biet, and a large pho dac biet. The spring rolls were so small??? The order came with 6 pieces - shrimps were small and there was a lot more noodle than lettuce. The bean sprouts were somewhat brown and didn't look fresh at all. The large pho dac biet had slightly more noodles than the regular. Large came with only 1 piece of tendon and the regular came with 2 pieces of tendon - what's up with that??? Slices of beef looked like they were cut from a frozen chunk of beef. The ice in the cups of water looked 80% melted and they seemed to have been kept in the fridge. This is so disgusting. I've been going here for a couple years. Almost weekly. It's not the best but it's near my job and my nail shop. I had a stomachache the last time I came here but I assumed it was ice cream I had earlier, but after today, I'm convinced bthey have bad meat. I ordered my usual order to go.. made a small bowl at work and as I go to add more meat, I realize it looks old and extremely discolored. I kept the food until I got off work and take it to them. They just go to the back, return, and ask if I want more. No apology, no acknowledgement. I ask for a refund. They give it to me with an attitude, like I've wronged them. I'm speaking in a low tone because there are other patrons and my experience with them has been fine prior to this. I've been extremely sick the past few hours. I'm never going here again.
