    66. Grilled Chicken with Rice
    Meladee V.

I know this is a chain restaurant and by far this location is the best out of all of them! They are doing it right! I was so hangry, came and got some chicken and rice, it came fast and quick, service was good, always had me hydrated filling up my water cup quick! The food videos playing on the screens made it even better when I there on a solo date! Food was so flavorful and I just love their hot broth that came on the side

Upon entering we were warmly welcomed (by the owner) and she quickly seated in a booth in the back. Condiments (Sriracha, hoisin, chili oil, pepper and soy sauce) were conveniently available at each table and clean utensils/napkins were later given. To drink, I ordered the passion fruit green tea. The tea was ice cold, sweet and refreshing. For my entree, I opted for the Special Vegetarian Noodle Soup (basically vegetarian pho). Lol The broth was PHO-nomenal, and it stayed piping hot the entire time. If you're vegetarian, a whole page in the menu is dedicated for us hahaha There are many vegetarian items so I'll definitely be back!

Banh Lon Xa... thick noodles, delicious!! $17.99.

Wonderful place! Mrs. Yelper's bowl of shrimp Pho was tasty and full of flavor. I got something with fat noodles (my preference), Banh Lon Xi, which is Vietnamese for BUY THIS. Not cheap at $17,99, but you can tell the quality is there. Before we got here I thought this place was a dive. It's actually clean, well lit, and well organized. We will be back!

Shrimp pho always 10/10! Everything I've tried is sooo delicious & authentic. I recommend this place

went to try their pork platter and was super dry, hard and thin. seems like its been sitting in oil for a while. cant speak for the rest of the menu as i saw some other dishes that looked pretty good but this plate is no bueno for me. rice was a little stiff but the little salad was good, no broth to sip on either like the other vietnamese places.

used love love this spot back when i was going to school. i was even a regular 2019-2021. i loved coming here to get the crispy fried chow mein noodles with vegetables, vegetables egg rolls, and plain pho (the broth was phenomenal). sadly i stopped going here because my favorite sever said he was leaving and there was going to be a new owner. i have only been here a couple of times since then. every visit is a reminder that it is not what it used to be. the egg rolls are from when i visited last year and they did not taste good. it was too oily for me but they still had the same side salad as before. pho is also from when i came back in 2019 (the good days lol). my most recent visit was on friday. i am still not impressed. they now changed their menu to have sea food boil options since the last time i went. i feel like they have too much on their menu that they are not focused on preparing the food as nice quality as before. and the prices are wayyyy to much for what you get. we paid almost $60 and only one of us got a full meal. we ordered three appetizers to share and all waters. food: -crispy fried shrimp wonton was mostly more oil than anything (even the plate was full of oil). the size of them was disappointing too. first bite was just wonton. the shrimp seemed just boiled (not in salted water) and it was maybe 1/4 of a shrimp in each wonton. had to drench it in sauce and eat it in one bite to get the whole flavors. 3/10 -tofu spring rolls were alright. the flavors weren't really there but i didn't expect much out of tofu. the back seemed messy like they only wanted to get the presentation right. the rice paper was all crumbled up and hard to bite through. only got a few points for the good crunch and the peanuts. 5/10 -ordered the grilled pork spring rolls but think we were given the grilled pork paste rolls. i believe it was made with spam! this was better than the rest of the appetizer from i was told. had to be eaten as a full meal since other food didn't come. 6/10 -vegetarian fried rice was the best out of everything. the person who ordered it really liked it and said they were happy with that. 8/10 service: this has also gone downhill...before there was a regular server this man would work all tables by himself until one other person came. he always was on top of everything. now there are multiple people and our service was horrible. waters were never refilled, they never once asked how we were, never came back for one of us to order, and never brought a dish to the table but wanted to charge it still. ambiance: it was fine. nothing really special the decor was very modern and lighting was fine. music and tv playing. what didn't impress me was the lack of cleanliness. we were sat on the left side booth next to the table and the wall and items on wall were all filthy. my friend facing the outside also told me the cashier person kept poking their nose which made her lose her appetite. two stars for my good memories of this place but i probably will not be back. pho 81 on van buren and and pho star bowl are better with portions and flavor/quality.

Finished the whole thing! So delicious

The service is quick, the food is excellent!!!! It is a hole-in-the-wall type of eatery, but these are the gems you always look for! The food is made with a lot of love. My favorite is their roasted duck noodle soup. The crispy pork belly is my second choice, followed by the roasted duck, but EVERYTHING they serve is top notch! It was not too loud in there and the place was relatively empty so that was nice. Biggest disappointment was service, because our table ordered chow mein and the waiter brought us chow fun (flat noodles with gravy). When we told him that we ordered chow mein, he told us that what we ordered was chow fun, so I showed him what we ordered on the menu and he said "you wanted lo mein". While I get that, he spent a minute trying to figure out where the item was and couldn't find it. I reviewed pics on here and it seems like other people got the thick yellow noodles for chow mein. Anyway, they replaced it for us but I overheard the waiter tell his manager that we ordered chow fun by accident. The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . The manager was nice about it, but we repeatedly told the waiter chow mein and he kept correcting us to chow fun. Also, there is a section of the menu labeled chow mein and a separate page labeled chow fun. I think I know what we ordered. Disappointing.

He loved the bbq chicken wings so much and has never wanted to eat chicken before this. I was extremely happy about that. I decided to bring him back 2 days later to celebrate his 3rd birthday and asked before i came if they sing happy birthday to kids and the girl at the front seemed unsure so she went to ask and came back and told us they do sing happy birthday and will give him a slice of pie i decided to stay based on that because i specifically wanted him to feel special today and take him somewhere he actually would eat the food. I did ask again when the server came to confirm and she advised us they are unable to sing happy birthday and they have never done that. My face dropped since that was the reason i came mainly. Otherwise i would have taken it to go and not drove an hour away here. To say the least he did eat the food after crying about no birthday song as a mom i am very upset about that but it is what it is. I won't celebrate anymore birthdays here. I did tell a manager about the experience who was very kind and did tell me they stopped doing that years ago so now i know. I decided the take the food to go since my son was already upset unfortunately but the manager was so sweet and said they can still sing to him but i decided to still go because i know how my son is once i already say something won't happen. I gave 2 stars due to the manager being very kind and trying to fix the situation. I will still come here to bring my son to eat since he loves their bbq chicken regardless. It doesn't take away from the fact they have really good food just a bad one time experience hopefully

The egg was closer to hard boiled than soft boiled. The noodles were cooked well. The thai tea was decent. It was extremely sweet and diluted and didn't have that strong flavor most thai tea has. I ordered spicy sukiyaki soup base, with quail eggs and brisket. Each order of soup comes with complementary rice and vegetable assortment + udon noodles. At first, I thought the amount of food you get for $30 was not a lot compared to AYCE Hot Pot options BUT realized halfway through that everything appeared deceptively small and they actually gave enough where I could not finish everything. I do think the added $4 for a scoop of gochujang-looking paste was a bit egregious to make my broth spicy though. The brisket was also on the tougher side compared to KBBQ, possibly due to thicker cuts of meat. Overall, I liked the Mokkoji experience and pricing was fairly reasonable. I opted for sukiyaki, which was really flavorful and had that perfect balance of salty sweetness. I ordered the marinated brisket. The regular size is definitely enough, come here on an empty stomach. I split some drunken chicken wings with my table, which were the star of the show. So crispy, and the sweet marinade with the fried garlic was to die for. We drizzled the remaining marinade in the pan over our rice/meat once we were done digging into the wings. Each dish comes with ponzu sauce and sesame sauce, I love. I ended up spilling some on my light pink clothes, which I was devastated about. Definitely dress accordingly if you come here. The service was okay, they were good about clearing out our dishes once we had finished putting in our veggies/meat but the broth ran low a few times and the fire ran out for my friends' burner ovens so this had to be raised twice to the servers. Overall ambiance is a little worn down, I noted that the AC system wires were out and paint was peeling on the table. The exterior also is shuttered off, giving it a mildly unfriendly look. The price is reasonable and not too extravagant for shabu shabu, but I would definitely keep that in mind if you're someone who prefers a more elevated experience. I also noted that they'll be opening a new location in North San Jose/Milpitas soon, so I'm excited for them to continue expanding near my hometown.
