I've been coming here over 20 years. They have consistently delivered on the food and service. The flavor of the food has been the same as the first time I came here. Best wonton noodle soup. The service is cozy. Are there times where they missed the spot? Sure. But I count a small handful of times out of the hundreds of times I've been here. I don't usually go out of my way to leave a review unless a place stands out. This place is great. I'm a college kid and the place is right on for the budget - 6 or 7 bucks for a giant serving of food. And it's really really good! Aside from that, the service has me impressed. In Sac, I've seen places with prices and quality like this have rude service. Instead, the service here is fast, polite, and relatable. For me, as a big white guy, I've found some places in Little Saigon to mostly only cater to Asians. The hostess at this resteraunt goes out of her way to make everyone comfortable while also being wholly authentic. I'll be back many times. read more

Nearly nonexistent, but what little there had to be for me to eat was friendly. Noodles - Plenty. Veggies and topping - Nice basil. Bean sprouts and lime. Meat - The most I have seen in a while. Tender and good. Broth - DAMN IT!! Sort of thin and not remarkable. This one was close. Real close. I will try again to see if maybe I just hit a bad day. I love coming to this place. My favorite items are bun rieu,bun thang and their delicious porridge. I've been coming here since I was a kid. The owner knows me very well and it's like coming home. Now I'm married with kids and I still come here with my family and we loved it. Why two stars?? I came in today with my family and order our regular and I ask the owner for a fork and she gave me a plastic fork. And I look at the fork and the back of the fork was cover in cake cream. I didn't tell her right away so I just use my chopstick for my son. The tables are always sticky, the utensil they put in the white bag is reusable and they don't have the real hoisin sauce like the other pho restaurant and the list continue on and on. Also, when outside is 85 degrees and above they don't turn on the AC they just turn on all the fan, ceiling fan and open both doors. Don't get me wrong I still love the food,but I think after today I won't be returning back to this establishment anymore. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years for good pho. Over the years, the area has deteriorated and business has slowed. At the same time, Pho Bolsa has also fallen victim to the downward trend. My mom and I came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon. A few years ago, this area would be full of Asian families stocking up on groceries from the supermarket next door and enjoying a bowl of pho. Sadly, there was only one other table there. The restaurant looks a little run down, like they made little effort with the upkeep. Small details matter - I appreciate that they prepackage their chopsticks and spoon and leave it on the table. However, it looks like they re-use the paper bags and looks sloppy. The pho was bland - like they watered down the broth. The noodles were consistent and the meat wasn't overly fatty. I had the vermicelli with seafood and an egg roll. The vermicelli and broth met the standard however, the egg roll was overcooked and oily. The pricing hasn't changed much about $6 for pho and $7 for vermicelli. Somehow, this place isn't as good as a I remember it, which is sad. I no longer live in the area and I try to go my familiar places to stir up old memories. I hope business in this area picks up when the excitement from the Ranch 99 grand opening dies down and the economy improves. read more

Absolutely love this place! I've ordered to go and eaten in the restaurant. This review is based on their bun rieu. I am in absolute love. Their portion size is excellent for the price you're paying, broth is always consistent and flavorful, and service is great. It's a little place next to gold star supermarket. Every time I walk in with my friends, I feel like I'm about to get a home cooked vietnamese meal. I'm a regular, so I will definitely be back for my bun rieu fix in a few days! This is the kind of family meals restaurant. Like your mom or grandma favorite dishes just normal cook in their kitchen for family, so don't expected the fancy or wow dishes. If you try the " canh ca chien thi la" or "trung xao tom" " ga luoc" with steam rice, then you can go back all the way to time in past. Wait what ? I didn't review this spot til now... hmmm, maybe cuz i wanted to keep it a secret. . Its usually less busy then other places, so that's a good for me because i can get in and get out quick with a satisfying meal. . I have tried some other items and some of their popular items, but im just gonna say what keeps me coming back. . Bun rieu - this magical bowl is just so comforting. Love the orange red color presentation. The noodles are vermicelli which comes with tomato and hearty clumped crab meat. They give you two big plates of fresh beansprouts, herbs, basil, mint leaves... its refreshing for any time of the year. It does solve colds and hung over with this magical bowl. As well the soup is rich in flavor but not heavily or oily. Its just to perfection light and refreshing and hits the spot. . Parking is easy and lots of parking. . Before i jump to conclusion i found a hair in my bun rieu and i only ate less than half til i find it. Then told the manager and still had to pay 5 bucks for it. Blehh... no offer in a replacement for a new one. I mean i would pay for regular price for a new bowl. Anyways look twice before you take a bite. Lol... lost my appetite.... . Overall this place is pretty amazing hole in the wall kind of spot. More like mom and pops restaurant. The outside doesn't do justice but don't judge a place by the outside til you walk inside and try it. Service is always ok, drop down food and drink, and just slurp away. I came to meet my uncle for lunch here the other day, he got the pho ga.. and I split the buon something that comes with a bowl of grilled meatballs and pork slices in mam and side of veggies and rice vermicelli noodles. My mom always order what i've got to-go for us at home, so I didnt know what else was good. I actually went to beauty school with the owners daughter who works here, she didnt recognize me tho haha. I never dined in or even come near this restaurant before, my uncle likes this place so yeah... I dont like the service or the place, it's super old fashioned. But I would order to-go, their dishes are good and always fresh. I also ordered a che 3 mau, which they were out of and got che xinh? instead. Not a good idea.. it looks like lil boobies with giant nipples floating in clear sweet syrup water. I couldnt point that out at the table, my uncle would of looked at me weird! This place is OOOLLLDDD... but dont fret, it is a very typical asian old restaurant so try to not be so judgemental... even though that's what were here to do.. anyhow.. I come here for their famous country dish " Bun Cha Ha Noi" it comes with a plate of noodles, and a bowl of pork meat balls and grilled pork, in a juicy soup. It is one of the only things I ordere here. My husband orders the rice plate combinations and always says that the meat is flavorful... There is also another dish that my sister loves, its is the grilled fried fish patties not sure what its called but theres a picture of it on the wall. It comes on a large frying grill gets cooked on the table. you can eat it with rice or vermicelli noodles. There is no ac/fan and it gets crazy hot in the summer. read more

This place is legit! I recently went here for a small bowl of Pho after I worked out down the street at Planet Fitness. The Pho was delicious. Sometimes certain flavors at Pho restaurants can be a little overpowering, but that is not the case at Pho Bolsa. Nice, balanced, delicate umami flavor and the meat is fresh and not all fatty. When I tried to pay my bill, a very reasonable $6.50, the owner informed me they only accepted cash. NO!!! I tried to go next door to use the ATM, but I'm not one who enjoys paying a hefty surcharge. So I did what I have never done in my life: Dined and Dashed! The next day I came in with cash to pay, and the woman profusouly apologized TO ME!?! Ever since then, I have been hitting this always dependable spot every Friday for lunch, and it never disappoints. It's a true Mom and Pop situation, and you are treated as such, with respect and care. MORE DET'S ON THE AMBIENCE: Clean, friendly, and always filled with large groups eating family style (so you know it's damn authentic). Last time I was there, there was a table of 25 and there was some funky salsa music playing in the background. It was pouring rain when we got here, so my first thought was that any hot noodle soup would be satisfactory. Then I thought of the choices we had in Davis and shuddered, retracting that thought in my head. We all ordered the #1 combination pho and received our food within 10 minutes. The first test was the broth, and it was light and tasty, providing a clean flavor. The next test was the noodles, and they were vibrant. Non-mushy noodles is a key for me, and these noodles certainly met that standard. A downside was the average amount of beef, tendon, and tripe that came with the soup. It still seemed like a great deal because the extra large bowl was only $6, but I was a little disappointed. The service here is really good, and the restaurant even let my friend go on a couple dollars because he did not have cash and the nearest ATM was through falling buckets of water. read more

Hidden away on the northern end of Stockton Blvd, this little mom and pop restaurant is a staple of mine. The greens given to you are always fresh. I've only dined in a couple of times and get that small town Chinese restaurant kind of feel, you know, the orange tables and fluorescent lighting with Chinese being yelled in the kitchen and small over hung TV with Chinese newspapers laying around. The Pho here is good, hot and fresh tasting. What I come here for is the Porridge. They make the best ones in town. Porridge is just a watered down rice soup with what ever you want in it, like chicken "Chao Ga" or pork innards "Chao Long". If I don't have it every once in awhile, I seem to lose my authenticity as an Asian. it's under $6, and I always go into a food coma afterward from gorging myself to sleep. I followed yelp reviews here through my search for a great tasting Bun Rieu. Sadly, this one was a let down. The broth was very light/bland and there were only a tea- spoon amount of meat floating, and few pieces of tomatoes. I was so disappointed that I didn't even snap a photo. I tried to fix it with all of the condiments they had to offer but there was no fixing for this awfulness. So I left hungry. Service was okay, no checking up after they dropped off the food and you have to walk to the counter to make your cash payment. I must add, the menu was also....not the best. They seemed to put things in random categories. For example, Egg rolls in fried rice section and a seafood dish in beef soup section. Been here since i was 5 years old. This place has been serving for as long as i can remember and I've always came here for their chicken pho. Best on a rainy day. Their chicken is very tender and better then most pho places in Sacramento. Id say second best would be saigon if we're talking about chicken pho. Id say the only place that beats this place is another place that only exist in Oakland. Another thing they make really good is their fried rice. I always get their combo fried rice. I grew up eating at this place...it brings me great memories when my parents would drive out all the way from Elk Grove to eat brunch here 15 years ago..and then I would beg my mom to take me to Gold Star so I can look at beanie babies..ah those were the days. Now Sacramento is infested with all these new restaurants and plazas, but I still come here occasionally. Their house bun dac biet (I'm totally guessing on the name, but it's something along those lines...it's basically hanoi style bun thit nuong) is to die for..I don't know anywhere else that makes it. I think it's the sauce and meat that makes it so great to the point that I can eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I order it to go...it's even good on cold bun noodles. If you think this place is good I feel bad that you haven't experienced real good Pho. First they don't tell you that they only take cash until after you eat, no signs anywhere. Then they'll tell you to walk two stores down to pull out cash, but while your doing this they will follow you out and watch you like a hawk.
