I walked in, and only 1/3 of the patrons were non-Asian (like me). Good sign. A table of 10 was having their order taken, and I figured my order would follow theirs and be delayed. But after taking their order, the waitperson stopped by to take my order. And my food came out with the large table's. I was impressed. My first pho experience was a lifetime ago in L.A., and I searched in Philly, NYC and anywhere else I traveled to repeat that L.A. ecstasy. But, as we know, it ain't gonna happen. However, the broth here was the best I have had outside L.A. and much better than any I had in the large east coast cities. A bit beefier, a bit more simmered with marrow, and a stronger presence of those warm aromatics. The quality and treatment of the brisket, tripe and tendon was great, and the tripe didn't gross me out. The place was super clean, and ran efficiently. I have recently moved to Columbus, and I'm sure I can come back here to get a consistent product and experience -- so important for those times when I find myself "Jonesing for some Pho." Well... where to begin. Seen that there was a Pho joint right up the street and thought I'd try it out. Go in and it was homey, usually that to me means I'm gonna get some good food... but nope. Let me explain. I go in and was immediately seated and given a menu, no water nothing asked chick just walks off. She can't be busy I'm only one of 4 customers in the place, instead she goes and sits down and from what I can tell starts separating bean sprouts at a table. 10 minutes go by, finally I get at least water and order my food. Nothing complicated, just Pho Ga with Vietnamese egg rolls. She takes my order and within 2 minutes a dude comes out of the back with the rolls. Ok maybe they just made a batch no biggie. I bite in and it's cold, and obviously old. So I wave down another person and explain they are cold and old can I please have a new set, no problem I'm told. A few minutes later my Pho comes out. Looks good, I go to dress it up and throw the veggies in. And right before I start mixing the guy comes back with the rolls. I thank him he walks away and then I look at them. Wtf!? Is that the same roll that I bit into and asked to be remade? It WAS, THIS PLACE LITERALLY THREW THE ROLL I HAD BUT OFF OF BACK INTO THE FRYER ALONG WITH THE OTHER ONE! I have NEVER been so disgusted. I will not be back and tomorrow I am calling the health department! STAY AWAY! read more

I have had a few items here. All have been decent. I agree with the one comment about the Pho being too fatty. The last one I had was the Beef Stew type Pho. There was a nice slicker of oil on the top, that seemed fine, but the actual beef was very fatty. I picked out most of the 'meat' and enjoyed the rest of the soup. read more

The food here is just so-so. Unfortunately there isn't much of a choice for pho in the area. The pho isn't terrible, but the portion is pretty small. For an extra $1, you can upgrade to their "big" size. But their "big" size doesn't seem to be any bigger than other places. Nothing complicated about this place. You get what you order. Tastes like Pho from every other place I have been to. I would advise going from 1-2 if you can around lunchtime because it gets crowded around 12-1 during the week. I usually go here on pay days when I can. The staff is friendly, the establishment is clean and the food is good. I really like the fact that they serve broad noodles, not a lot fo places carry them because they do not last on the shelf long. read more

Needed a convenient carryout after shopping nearby. I ordered the grilled pork with vermicelli and egg roll. It was a hit at home. The egg roll was pronounced to be delicious with lots of ground meat. The diverse flavors in the noodle dish were also delicious. The menu is very expansive. They have lots of options for Pho, other stews, and plenty of rice/vermicelli dishes. You can definitely find something that you will like. The service is very quick and very polite. The broth in their Pho is tasty but not the best I have had. I was a little disappointed in the meat in the soup, the chicken was somewhat dry. Just had lunch at this restaurant with a friend, we'd been waiting to try since they put up the sign of "Coming Soon" months ago. It's definitely very pleasing to have another vietnamese restaurant in Columbus, so far we always go to buckeye pho (which is good but it's getting expensive and portion seems less than before) or the one in Morse Road (kind of far for us but they have better portion and taste pretty consistence). I had Pho combination, and my friend had the beef noodle soup which both had really rich broth...it's very good (the only minus is ...a bit too salty for our taste...we can't finish the broth because of it, don't get me wrong it taste delicious). Wish the pho would have come with meatballs, but hey for the price they have and the portion I think it is a fair play. I will certainly go back to try other dishes, they all looks great on the menu, and I hope they will keep doing a good job without reducing the portion and increase the prices like other restaurants. I know things have been getting more and more expensive, and I too work in the restaurant industry for years and sure it is hard running a restaurant and try to survive in this economy, but if you have spent so much money to open up this business then should go all the way to make it whatever it takes....imo. Anyway, I recommend this restaurant to friends already and hope it stays for a long time. Came to this establishment knowing that they had nice size tvs, I asked the waitress if they would have the OSU game on and she said she would look into it. Later I hear her and the other waitress bitching about our request... It's 12pm and buckeyes are playing, is it out of the ordinary for patrons to request nicely to tune into the game? She was only 20 feet away talking loud enough for us to hear her whining about changing the tv channel. After she knew she heard her bitching , she tried to change her tone to being nice and accommodating. It wasn't even that busy, 2 other tables with people. Now onto the pho... I'd say its the worst pho I've had in Columbus. I put buckeye pho and lac viet as my top 2. Mi lihn (same owner as buckeye pho) up there as well. The pho had too much herbs and too sweet. I didn't even put much hoisin sauce in it. On top of the broth was just covered in green herbs even before I put basil leaves in. I'd recommend lac viet or buckeye pho, I love trying new pho places and this one was near the bottom. Good luck to anyone who goes here, just stop at papaya grill instead. My mom and I had been waiting for Pho Chef to open, and when it did, we took the first opportunity we had to check it out. We have been eating pho for a long time now and have our favorites around town, but it was exciting to know that we would have a place closer to our house. The space is very open and we really enjoyed the large TVs around the restaurant. The Olympics and the Food Network were on. We thought this was very appropriate. The menu has a lot of pictures to help you and the descriptions were straightforward. Since we love pho, we had to try it. Many places that serve pho only make beef broth. We loved that they also had chicken broth. We really liked that they also had an option for a regular size bowl or a large bowl for only $1 more. We also ordered an order of the fresh spring rolls. Since we don't eat shrimp or pork, they were very accommodating by making ours with grilled chicken. These two dishes were plenty for us to share. The spring rolls came with a side of peanut sauce. We added a little hoisin and it was perfect. When the pho came, it was steaming hot. The chicken was very tender and moist. I hate when pho has dry slices of chicken on top, but that was not the case at all. The flavor of the broth was soo tasty. It was so good that you could eat it without anything added to it like hoisin or sriracha. I do like pho at other places, but this broth I think was my favorite by itself. We were very satisfied! Pho is a go to for us when we are sick, so we will be making many trips back to Pho Chef. read more

We moved here a year and a half ago and have been looking for Vietnamese noodle soup. My family loves this style of soup and noodle bowls. It's very tasty. Upon returning back from a weekend out of town trip, we've noticed a new opening located at West Dublin Granville Rd. to what is Pho Chef! Its certainly nice to know that with the growing Vietnamese options available, there is another good location that is being added to the list here within central Ohio. Its within a strip mall on the very end of its plaza, once you get to the location you will get an idea of where its situated. When we first came in during a mid afternoon weekday, we were quickly greeted and seated. Eating space was simplistic, clean and each table has the usual condiments of hoisin sauce, sriracha sauce, soy and fish sauce, etc. The restaurant seems to be family owned, food quickly came out as ordered and we were very pleased! We had an order of the goi cuon (Vietnamese spring rolls), banh mi bo kho (beef stew) and pho tai. They certainly didn't skimp out on the meat within each dish and the pho was definitely aromatic and flavorful, the bo kho was rich in its ragu like meat flavors with tender chunks of fatty meat! We definitely had a good time sampling each other dishes and had good laughs as we tried to figure out each other's taste palates. Of course there's your typical side serving of fresh lime, jalapeno, bean sprouts and cilantro that you can garnish and incorporate into the dishes as you prefer. Food wise everything was great and fresh, was it the best? No, but honestly who beats homemade recipes/dishes? You certainly won't make a bad decision in your options here, they even have carry out so it saves me a trip of venturing too far if I ever have cravings (definitely enjoying their vermicelli with grilled pork when I got home tonight!) Prices are pretty fair, you certainly don't have to be an expert in Vietnamese culinary, but give it a shot you'll know when something taste amazing! read more

I've given this place many chances but the service each time is just awful. The last time the lady got our order completely wrong and didn't bother to apologize. The young man that brought it out had no clue on what the dish was. And brought us the correct dish but it looked like it had been microwave. And if you order other dishes beside pho each time it tastes/looks different. My kids who have ate there before also complained the food didn't taste right. The pho is just okay if you live close by to the area and don't want to venture to the other good pho places. But I don't think I would go back unless they change the front staff. The floor was slippery as anything they should of cleaned the wet floor due to the rain. My 3 year old daughter fell and luckily she caught her self and didn't crack her head. We ordered pho and it was horrible. It tasted like they added way to much MSg in there food didn't taste authentic!! On top everything and over tipping we didn't even get a thank you or a good bye. I have had a lot of pho in this area (Lac Viet (2 places), Buckeye Pho) and find the pho here to be the best I have found in the Columbus area. I have had the chicken pho and found the meat to be good quality without tendons and grizzle. The pho has a good amount of noodles and a nice rich broth. My husband has had the meatball and filet steak pho and the meat quality and flavor was good as well. They also have a huge squeeze bottle on every table of the chili garlic sauce (not Sriracha, but the stuff with the actual red pepper flakes), so he was very happy about that. I lived in San Fran/Oakland for a short time before moving to Columbus. I found the pho in Oakland to be the best, and the pho at Pho Chef is about 90% of that. Also their shrimp spring rolls were decent and better than others I have had in the area (Buckeye Pho). (about 80% Oakland (Pho 84)). read more

I love Pho restaurants, even though I never actually order Pho. I always order the Bun (Vermicelli noodles with a meat). And ofcourse when at a Vietnamese restaurant you need to try the spring rolls! I was extremely excited to have a Vietnamese place near work. My first visit was not great to be honest. The flavor was good but the ingredients didn't seem very fresh, which is the key to Bun. The summer roll was loose and a little wimpy. The spring rolls were good though. Due to the distance from work and my addiction to Bun, I have gone back twice since and have to say my rating has improved. Everything is flavor-able, fresh and importantly (and unexpected) a large variety of meats to select from. I'll be back! read more

On a cold wintry day I needed a Pho fix and this was the closest place to my house. I was not looking forward to cross the hell that is Sawmill/Dublin Granville but I survived. Keep in mind all their Pho options are beef based. Never seen so many options for Pho but I went with P4. Upon getting it I wished at had paid the 50 cent upcharge for just beef filet. I'd also maybe ask for extra meat as it was pretty sparse, as it tends to be with Pho. I like my beef pink in my Pho when it is served but it was fully cooked here. $6.99 for a regular sized bowl seems the norm. Dollar more for a larger size. Clean place, fast service, was about 1/3 full on a Saturday afternoon with a steady stream of people coming and going. read more

I ate at Pho Chef for the second time today for lunch. As with my previous visit the location was clean, service was reasonably quick and I don't have any major complaints. Basically, the food is ok, but not above my standard for repeat business. Last time I got the pho and felt it was too strong on five spice. This time I got a bahn mi and egg rolls. I didn't like the egg rolls at all. They were just filled with an odd tasting meat ball mix. The bahn mi was serviceable with properly cooked pork and a nice fluffy, crunchy roll but the flavor was not on point. I could taste a lot of hoisin sauce and not much else. The sandwich was completely devoid of spice that usually comes from Jalapeño. I'm not going to go back and that makes me kind of sad. I was hoping for good Vietnamese near work. read more

We stopped in while trying to go to Papaya Street Grille. When we noticed it was closed (even though the hours were until 9pm and it was 2:00) we saw Pho Chef and decided to try it out. I absolutely love pho, and I am quite picky when it comes to it. I had the Filet Pho and it was delicious. The broth was very tasty before any additions (I like to load mine up with Hoisin, Siracha, Limes and Basil). The meat was a very good quality, tender, not chewy. I have had a hard time finding pho here in Columbus that I really enjoy- but I finally found some :) We will be back soon! read more

I went to Pho Chef around 8.50pm, not too hungry, but more curious than anything else (I luvvvvv everything soupy .... after all like common other S.E Asian...grew up fed by my mom on soup ). With the name PHO CHEF...mmmm......soups must be really good. When I walked in, only 2 other customers sitting down, but I go straight to the counter and ordered Pho Dac Biet. 5 minutes (too fast I think), it arrived. Woowwww....surprised of the super fast time. The ladies at the counter were nice and friendly. Arrived home 20 mins later, and SURPRISEEEE!!! The plastic container only has 2/3 of murky brownish soup, tasted bland, watered down Pho bouillon. Yuchhhh!! The veggies were in a little baggy smaller than my fist.....only has a 1/2 circle thin sliced of onion, sprouts and tadaahhhh....3" of basil, with only 6 leaves on it. A small foam container with a bit of noodle and super thin sliced beef & tripe! Well.....I doctored it up, with my own kitchen seasonings...and still ate them. Obviously they didn't live up to their name...I think I'm a better Pho Chef than them. So,....definitely I WILL NOT COME BACK...Well..good luck, maybe I'll try again a year from now, if there's any improvement read more

This place has lots of good reviews, but I was underwhelmed. My tofu rolls were just okay. I ordered a pretty standard pho bowl and it was bland and tasteless while simultaneously being over-cilantroed, quite a feat. The beef was gristly, the shrimp were overcooked. It's a clean, nice place with a ton of huge TVs, for some reason, which was good for people watching the World Cup, I guess. I'd be game to give it another try with a different menu item, but since "pho" is in the name of the restaurant I'd have expected better pho. read more
