We're back and decided to try this place again. Service was good. Not busy on a Sunday evening. Ambience hasn't changed. I got the Hue Spicy Noodle Soup, my husband and daughter got pho. We noticed that the price for the pho did drop $1.00 since the last time we came. Husband & daughter liked their pho and was happy with it. Unfortunately, my Hue Spicy Noodle Soup wasn't spicy at all and was sweet instead. The condiments that came with the soup were impressive and the meat amount was generous. Came here for lunch but ended needed to order the food to go as I was in more of a rush than I anticipated. So I went to the counter to place the order for my lunch. I ended up order the vermicelli house special and the vermicelli grilled pork. Coming from a household that grew up on this type of food I was expecting the house special to include the traditional Vietnamese items. To my surprise I was shocked at what was included in the vermicelli house special. I probably should have read what was included instead of just assuming it would be traditional items. When I opened my to go box to my surprise I had similar amount of protein as the order with just the grilled pork. I had a mixture of some chicken, some pork and 2 pieces of grilled shrimp and one egg roll. Needless to say, I was disappointed. On to the taste of food, The vermicelli was awful, it was hard and tasted uncook which I feel like is difficult since you just had to boil them hot water. Came in since it was right across from my hotel and I could walk over. Nice inside, very clean and looked new. Was greeted right away an offered a menu and some water. I almost always get the same thing but like to look to see what they have before deciding. Got my usual beef stew and the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. I've been getting take out for dinner from Pho House for a few years now. Ever actually eaten there though. Odd. Anyway, I call ahead and it's almost always waiting for me even if I leave my house the second I hang up the phone. If I have to wait, it's just a moment or two. The broth is amazing. Super flavorful but not too salty. The noodles are soft but not mushy. They don't stick together when you try to dump them into your bowl. You always get a good amount of veggies, jalapenos, and lime to mix in and make the pho just the way you want. Most of the time the "father" of the business rings me up. I like that he's friendly, but he's got a sprinkling of attitude. He's a straight forward, no BS kinda guy. He gets you in and out of there quickly. This is the worst pho we have ever had. I would give it zero stars if that was an option. My wife and I ordered a veggie pho with beef broth and a beef pho to go. Immediately we knew something was wrong. It was definitely off and tasted like it had gone bad. The noodles were chopped up like grains of rice. Who does that to noodles? Defeats the whole purpose of ordering noodles! Not only were the noodles in tiny pieces... They were extremely mushy. It was like eating slimy mashed potatoes. We got a 1 beef pho and 1 veggie pho and after our first bite my husband and I looked at each other and said "does it taste off to you?" The soup was mystery meat that had zero taste and the soup was like dishwater. Ambiance was not good. No one wears gloves. This was definitely not a place I will ever eat in again. I never see anyone sitting in this place and I now know why. This place will not last long if they keep up the horrible food. Maybe just maybe they should hire a real chef! It is a bit pricey than I'm used to but the food was delish! I am very picky about my peanut sauce for the fresh spring rolls. The taste is close to the place where I normally go to. The soup just needed to be more hot. It got cold right away. The veggies was not enough for my soup. Also the floor was very slippery. We sat on the back of the resto. I had to walk very slow to make sure I don't slip and fall. I like the ambience though. It was really unprofessional seeing the workers playing cards at the table next to us. Today I stopped in I noticed some Asians coming out of here so that's always a good sign! I wanted Pho but I didn't wanna get disappointed so I ended up getting the Special Broken Rice Dish. Came with egg rolls, pork, beef, shrimp....and to my surprise it came with a bowl of beef soup. Beef was a tad bit salty but it was still good. I liked the nuc moum and the portions. The soup was pretty good! For sure I'll try the pho next time. Place is nice and simple. There's plenty of seating there's also back patio seating over looking a beautiful piece of land. Nicely tucked in a strip mall just off Palomar Road and directly on the landing flight path. Clean and big tables. Not sure why all the big tables because most of those had 1 or 2 people at them. So, we waited about 5 minutes and sat down. Huge menu full of all kinds of stuff from Pho to noodles to fried rice and some Bahn Mi sandwiches. That what I came for, but after wife went beef Pho ( very big bowl for a medium size) and I went Vietnamese egg roll and barbecue pork fried rice. All came out quick and were super fresh. I noticed that some of the poor reviews talk about service but my experience today has been that this is a self-serve type of a restaurant. You go up to the counter, place your order and pay-then sit down. If you want anything else you have to pretty much get up and purchase the item. The only service involved is somebody delivering the food to you. Perhaps after Covid, they will have table service. Now I really feel that everything I had was very good. The shrimp / pork spring rolls were really really good! The Pho was hot, noodles soft and really delicious. The store was pretty busy and I looked at some of the other items that people were ordering. Everything looked great. I found the restaurant to be very clean and the person behind the counter extremely nice and answered any questions that I had about the food. Was driving by and saw the sign for pho. Being winter and it being a bit nippy in the air; hot soup sounded perfect. Also wife saw the back patio area for outside dining and said it look nice. So I made a U-turn and had lunch. With COVID, indoor dining is a no no but this place has plenty of outdoor seating so not to worry. And if you are lucky you can get the back patio and have your meal with a view. You can see planes taking off and landing at the Carlsbad airport from the patio, such an awesome view. The flavor isn't like moms cooking but help calm the craving. The star of the meal was the crispy rice noodle though. It was fried so the noodles had a nice thin crunch while the middle was still soft like regular noodles. Perfectly fried. The toppings were good too lots of veggies and meat.
