i've been on the hunt for a good viet spot around my area, so i stopped by here around 4:45 pm on a Tuesday! there is a good amount of seating, and it definitely gets more crowded by 5:45 ish. i like the clean layout/lighting, and the servers were very kind and helpful. bun bo hue dac biet: 4.5/5. i ordered this without the blood pudding. the broth doesn't come spicy to make it more palatable, so i added a decent amount of chili oil. i also like my bun bo hue very flavorful, so i wish they had some mắm tôm (vietnamese shrimp paste) on the side to add in addition to the chili oil. the servers let me know that they have it available at their fountain valley location! overall it was good portion size and was good flavor after the chili oil! thai tea: 5/5 - the tea flavor in this drink was strong and definitely not watered down, it also comes in a good size. read more

I'm a big fan of pho, ever since a friend of mine from undergrad first introduced me to it. And I'm happy to have found Pho Hue Oi right here in the south bay. This place is located in a large shopping plaza, and parking is usually not an issue here even during busy times. This place is pretty popular. More often than not, it's busy. I've almost never had to wait when dining alone, as I just opt to sit at the bar. If you're coming with a bigger party (3+) you may have to wait a bit. I've had the filet mignon pho, as well as the diced filet mignon, which came with rice and a salad. Both plates are phenomenal. The pho is tasty and filling. The diced filet mignon is nice and juicy. To drink, I usually get water or iced tea. This place gets busy, but the staff keep it running smoothly. The pho and other dishes are great. I recommend them. read more

First time trying this place. The meat quality of the pho is good and prices decent. However, the wait time was long and the customer service was middle of the road. We waited almost 30 min (party of 2) to be seated. When seated, the servers took their sweet time, mainly because there were so few of them on the floor. It's neither too rich nor too light. The star anise and spices don't overpower the beefiness of the broth--something that happens far too often in LA and Orange County pho. Plus it's well balanced and neither too sweet nor too fish saucy. So good. Plus they slice their onion thin enough that they can match the noodles in consistency, so you get some in every bite without it being too oniony or not oniony enough. They've got it DOWN. I ordered banh beo from here as well as pho. I'm from OC and am used to the banh beo from Quan Vy Da, which is customary banh beo. The banh beo here is good, I honestly devoured it, but I think they can easily upgrade it. The ingredient proportions are a little off in the shrimp topping and fish sauce, and it's noticeable, as someone who's used to cooking Vietnamese food. Given that I'm in Silverlake and the only place that delivers banh beo is in PDR, there are not many options for banh beo and I will happily order it from here if I'm not in OC. This place will definitely satisfy my cravings for banh beo and literally everything Vietnamese that I'm craving, but there are a few small tweaks that can be made that would significantly improve the quality. This is a small restaurant that appears to offer some basic and traditional Vietnamese dishes but the pho broth and nuoc cham (basic dipping sauce) were too watered down and lacking the comforting savory flavor and aroma we seek when we crave Vietnamese food. I haven't found any Vietnamese restaurants in the South Bay that I think are comparable to OC. This has to be my top pick for the area. The Bun Bo Hue and Pho Dac Biet were delicious and came with so much meat. I'm surprised Tom Hoa Tien is on the menu, I don't see many places offer it. It's one of my favorite Vietnamese appetizers. Food was a tougher sell, the goi cuon (spring rolls) were just okay, and the bun bo hue, while equipped with all the proper ingredients (including fish balls and pork blood. nom!), for whatever reason, didn't super excite me either. I don't think it's fair to expect them to stand up to their competitors in Thai Town, but at the same time I expected more.
