Oh yummy. I've had my fair share in the Westminster area and thought only the good stuff exists there. Well I come to find, while there are many in the SGV, this one definitely stands out. The portions are good, the meat is never ending, I just manage to keep finding another slice of beef in my order of the large Pho Tai. I CAME. I ATE. I LEFT AND NOT COMING BACK The Pho Filet mingon aka Pho #2 was ok, the pieces of meat were tender and that was my favorite part. The broth was lacking flavor and i know its because there isn't a lot of MSG, but at the same time if the noodles are already bland you've got to at least add more pizzazz to your soup. Place sucks.....like the prostitutes that hang out nearby. The food is really really pricey and way bellow average for the area (which is really ethnic....u can get better food for half the price really really close by.) Just a soda ran $3 and pho was $12. This place is incredible. You walk in and immediately someone rushes up to you to ask how many in your party and to usher you to your table. The drink order gets taken right away, and if you're ready, you can order your food. It's always the pho filet mignon for me. About a minute later, I have my drink. Add another minute to that, and lunch is on the table. It's always good, consistent, healthy, and the service is as good as it gets. I've tested several pho places, some in nice areas, some in what I would have thought of as authentic asian areas, like Monterey Park and Alhambra. Randomly stumbled upon this place because there are like 10 other Pho places on the same block as this place, it turned out to be a pretty good place. Their specialty is the filet pho, I have tried this twice, once regular, but they serve a different type of noodle, so the 2nd time I tried it I ordered it with the "normal" pho noodles, I then came to the realization that the broth is actually quite different between the regular pho and the filet pho. In the end I would stick with their regular pho, has the broth flavor people come to expect when they think of pho, not to say that the filet isn't good, it just wasn't better than their regular pho for me. This is one of those "hit or miss" places, i've been going here for about a few years now and i only come back because my stepdad loves this place so much (i honestly do not know why). Their cooking and service is going down hill. The pho is under-cooked when served and the soup is not hot enough. They throw in a lot of onion and chives, they also give a stack of meat which might mean their quality in meat is not that high. Ok wow their Pho Bac is off the hooook! Probably the freshest tasting Pho soup with hints of ginger this shit really hits the spot. The noodles are wider then regular Pho noodles but that shit just melts in your mouth. The Filet Mignon is nothing special it is what it is (not a fan of Filet Mignon). After trying the Pho Bac, I can't look at any other pho the same way again. I've never heard of Pho Bac until I moved to Cali and so my cousin ordered it for me one day. He told me to add some type of oil into my bowl (I honestly forgot what it's called), but adding that oil definitely made the pho taste a WHOLE lot better. Delicious, very hot, and filled me up completely. Only 4 stars they close too early, 6:45. I will return, it was only 8 bucks for a large bowl with tons of goodness in it. Best pho in LA county so far. Don't even ask for goi cuon, because all they serve here is Pho... and drinks. That's it. Great broth - flavorful, nuanced and clean. I didn't taste too much MSG in it, which is great and sets it apart from most other pho joints. TONS of meat - more meat than I have ever seen in a bowl of pho before. So much meat that I had consumed all the noodles and still had meat left! WOW! Appropriate garnishes - including real Viet cilantro and lime wedges. Service was super-fast and the food was delicious. Tried their pennywort juice - very strong flavor, granular sugar on the tongue, but it tasted really fresh and evidently will cure me of leprosy. So THANK GOD I tried it. I don't see nor taste the hype. A good bowl of pho can be determined by the soup/broth. Prior to diving into my bowl of pho, I pick up my soup spoon and sip the soup. I was sooooo disappointed. The soup reminded me of a watered down pho. The after taste of pho was there but I wanted that rich beefy pho flavor from the tip of my tongue and down my mouth. This was sad. A good broth has the right balance between beef bones, spices, veggies and fat. Msg is flavorless mind I add you, it's just crystals (like meth) that make the mind believe the food is flavorful, chemical reaction. Now that we got that out of the way, Pho Huynh has some pretty good pho. I was first introduced to Pho Bac here (northern Vietnamese style pho) and I LOVED it! I liked that it was a new twist on something that I've had since I was practically in the womb. They excell in the two "musts" that I like about my pho 1) the broth has enough "essence" (flavor of herbs and such) and 2) the temp of the broth is always nice and HOT. The only thing I don't like about the pho bac is the pieces of ginger...i like it for the "essence" but don't like biting into it. *passes over to BF* Other things: -They don't serve anything else but PHO here -Clean -Recently expanded -Better pho bac than the restaurant Pho Bac on Valley and Del Mar -Slightly ghetto area -Parking in the back lot sucks, mostly on the weekends though when they get super busy -They close EARLY! at 6:30pm. Really great pho. Authentic Vietnamese w/sides of liquid fat available upon request. They also open super early (7am) which makes it the go to place after an early morning workout or a verrrrrry late night. A decent place to eat Pho EXCEPT for that one guy in that restaurant (maybe the owner's son) is EXTREMLY impolite or (mat da.y) I witnessed he was cussing (of course, not in front of that customer but lound enough for me to hear) at one customer for being so "f**king paranoid for asking him to crank up the AC"...????? For time sake, I am here to inform you about this restaurant. The point is, it's CRAP! Seriously, the best thing about this place was leaving the restaurant, and the worse thing was that I came to dined here. Let me EXPLAIN! While their restaurant design and quality is alright, the service in providing my family's dish was disgustingly awful. First off, their bowl is metal which completely changes the taste of their food. You could sense a different smell, and it's trash. When you ate the food, you will realize that they gave you a crappy amount of noddles and meat. In all honesty, their broth tasted like boiled water; there was no spice, no seasoning, no anything. It hurts to say that I came here, the typical designs makes the atmosphere average, but that all come crashing down making it worse as you see how they cook your meal. Overall, you are supposed to be satisfied when you partake in a great restaurant, but all I received was disappointments.
