I just did not like this place. I ordered Chicken Pho, (like always) and they gave me thick noodle soup. When I order this anywhere else I get vermicelli/rice noodles. El Monte has so many pho places, I when here recently and wasn't impressive at all. The broth was terrible and tasted like no flavor at all. Everyone in my group were having the same complain. We had to add chili and request for fish sauce to make up the flavor. The rice noodle was kinda unusual and were a lot more thicker. Their only serve Pho in their entree. The most popular pho is their #1 Filet mignon, the beef is no doubt taste better than typical beef in pho. Very good pho. Very yummy... I came here because of the raving Yelp reviews and had to see for myself. I went around 2-3pm and ordered a pho tai, my favorite. The noodles were NOT the typical 2pm noodles that are stuck together in a ball and break off when I attempt to loosen them up. Noodles were fresh even hours after lunch time! This I think is a first. The soup could have been hotter, but it was good enough for me to forgive them for the non-scorching soup. They gave me so much meat, very tender meat, that I had to pass them on to my bf. I ordered the regular size, but seemed like a very generous portion for $5 bowl. Veggies are pretty fresh, lime was juicy....Generous amounts of MSG.... possibly more than generous. It's been several hours since I ate here and I am still thirsty... and we all fell asleep thanks to the yummy bowl of soup. This will probably be my #1 choice for pho, as long as I don't mind being MSG'd up for the rest of the day. Service was same as most Pho places, but they brought me a lot of extra onions when I asked. They didn't give us too much bean sprouts though. :) Still good. read more

this is one of the only pho places that i go to. 1) my mother eats here. but i think its because she gave them some pointers. 2) they make pho. thats it, its called pho huynh what else do you expect to eat? i dont go to sushi asking for ramen. so eat pho. and pho is traditionally with beef. 3) i'm giving 3 stars because they have hot soup. yes hot. not kinda warm hot but piping hot. thats how its suppose to be served. love the noodles. and when you order togo i feel as though the portions double.. but thats just my experience. read more

I have to agree with all the positive reviews about this restaurant. They are famous for the Pho in the steel bowl aka Northern Pho. At least that's what my Vietnamese g/f tells me. The thick rice noodle is great, and the beef filet that comes with your pho is amazingly soft and delicate. The meat just melts in your mouth. The broth isn't as strong as the regular pho but the meat, oh the meat. So just try it, it's busy for a reason. Too bad the close so early. Clean place, fast service, nice tables and chairs, a cozy little place. The parking does suck, but oh well. read more

To start with, I am a regular customer of Pho Huynh myself for the last few years because of the quality of the Pho and quick service. Yet, today experience assure me that I should never come back. 1. Meat: the file mignon is dark, thick and not fresh. My gf warned me a few days before but I don't believe. 2. The noodle is super over-boiled (which is rare here) and definitely not acceptable for a Pho to taste good. I nicely asked the server to exchange to a new bowl, a shrimp pho. He sent me a new one with a "sorry" message. At the end, i saw the lady and the man (the owners) and explained the situation. They seemed understanding and asked me for comments to improve. Interestingly, they don't give a shit about their mistakes of the over-cooked Pho. They charged me full price for the TWO bowls even though I didn't eat the first one, not even some discount! I actually do not care for their policy of "charging no matter what", but if they charged for the 2nd bowl they had better let the customer know first! This is horrible customer service! I work around the area and this place must be one of the best PHO in SGV. They only do pho, no rice, no stews, no egg rolls. Just plain old PHO. Make sure to get the steel bowl its their special meat and broth combined with a different kind of noddle. The staff is friendly the service is fast and the price is reasonable, parking well might be a little difficult at times during prime time but over all you'll find a place to park. Granted I have not tried this spot in all its splendor and glory, but I have tried it recently and its filet mignon pho is one of the best if not one of the only ones available haha. the food was good (i'd give a 4 star for the food itself). i think i had the first one on the list. but what i wasn't pleased was that there was an insect in my friend's food. although they apologized, asked if she wanted a new bowl (who would? esp if she was almost done with her bowl of noodles lol), and didn't charge her for the food....i just don't think it's enough for me to go back. i was really grossed out. i think they should have just let us ate for free for the entire meal since it wasn't a lot anyways. Very good! Very fast service. The restaurant was clean and not at all smelly. Despite being somewhat crowded for lunch we were seated right away. Both my friend n I ordered pho and we also had some egg rolls to share. Delicious egg rolls! Crispy and so very tasty. The pho was also really really good. Meat was lean (I always get the flat or round steak bc it's the leanest), veggies were fresh and the Thai iced was refreshing. My favorite pho place in the san gabriel valley area. (Rating only based on "pho bac," aka filet mignon pho that comes in the metal bowl). Every time I come here, i order pho bac & OJ (fresh squeezed). It's a bit pricier than other pho places, but it's worth it. I like the broth b/c it's light & doesn't have that strong, artificial pho taste that other traditional pho places have; It's the closest flavor to homemade pho. Not a Mi Chang in the place. The place is a buzz with customers and it's the cacophony of scattered chatter that adds to the character of this joint. This is as ethnic a Vietnamese noodle shop you can find and my review will focus on the just the pho, as it was all we ate and it is after all called Pho Huynh. Show me a place that doesn't use MSG or sweet flour as the Vietnamese refer to it as, and I'll show you a pho that's not very tasty. This is not to say that I condone the over use of it, I just understand its value when it comes to a hot steaming bowl of the stuff. This place uses it sparingly and although the soup is slightly salty the broth is pretty tasty. Once the noodles settle in and diluted the soup a bit, you actually come out with a pretty nice tasting pho broth. We had 2 bowls of their pho. The traditional bowl you find around town and their specialized northern Pho which they served with chopped filet, thick noodles and in a metal bowl. They were both really good although I was instructed not to add any additional vegetable to the soup in the metal bowl. The Café su da (iced coffee) was excellent. Not sure I was deviate from the pho and try anything else though. There's parking in the back but this place get full real quick on a Saturday afternoon. read more

I used to come here almost every weekend because I live so close by, but the prices tend to fluctuate, so I don't come as often anymore. The place has ample parking lot space although it can get filled quickly on weekends. Growing up eating pho, I never quite found a place that's really good, but pho huynh is the place I go to for pho! It's probably the ONLY place I'll go to for pho actually. So both Jonathan Gold snd LA Times said this place has one of the best pho in LA. Not sure if it's the best, but it's pretty good. The broth is light but flavorful (though a bit salty for me). The meat slices are fresh and tender. I am one of those who puts 10 lime wedges in my pho (XD), but I almost didn't need any this time. The final challenge will be whether I get a MSG attack...in about 20 minutes. One reminder though, their price is a bit higher compared to other pho places in the area. This place gets quite a few mixed reviews. yes as everyone says they only have pho and thats it. I tried the #1 that everyone keeps raving about (the filet mignon) and not not happy one bit with the outcome. The soup base was flavorless which had to be compensated with lots of hot sauce and hoisin sauce (plus all the msg it already came with). My pet peeve is if i need to add ANY sauces to my pho its really not worth my time. The noodles are more a chow fun then your usual ramen style looking pho. I do not plan to revisit this place. Not too big a fan of their pho. The broth doesn't taste very fresh. The rare steak they use isn't that great of quality. Definitely had better elsewhere. The soup wasn't hot, but more lukewarm making it tough to cook the rare steak. For dessert, got the 3 color bean. The beans were very tough, and the green jelly was too thin and tasted like plastic.
