We also got the shaken beef with rice. Beef was not cook well. We also learned they dont have soy sauce ready to pour. We asked for soy sauce and got 1 packet!!! literally 1.. -- the hell ?!?!? Here comes the bill.. so we finally take a look to split the bill and of course we find EXTRA CHARGES.. who the heck charges for the condiments .. sriracha and hoisin sauce that are made available at the table. $0.50-- per bowl!!!!!! Tried the pho bac and chinese donut. Chinese donuts are fried dough so can't really go wrong with that! The pho bac was a decent bowl of pho but something about it just didn't make me really feel like eatting it. I tried eatting it with the chilli they have and it just felt somewhat lacking. Also the meat is bunched together so it was kind of annoying. Service was not great. They sat us in the other room so it was hard to get service so we ran out of water for majority of the time. Came here many moons ago when I was sick got bad service, returned once more and same bad service. I can't complain about the pho, it is delicious. We order our drinks, spring rolls, and pho. The server was not friendly, clearly he hates his job. Our pho arrived first, our drinks didn't arrive until after 15 minutes and that's only because I asked for them. He got bothered that I asked for my drinks too. Once we are done with our pho (probably 30+ mins later) the spring rolls arrived. Wait, what? When we were done eating we literally said "they forgot our spring rolls, don't bother asking for them". Lastly, there was two kids running around with guns and toys which clearly were one of the employee's kids. Screaming and running around the whole restaurant. Great pho, but the service is garbage. I love good pho. Pho Huynh makes good pho. Therefore I like Pho Huynh. Prolly my favorite Pho Place to eat at outside of homemade. I used to work in Rosemead and go to SGV and I can tell you there are MANY options to get pho. I mean to me, pho is never a bad option.. but the best option would be Pho Huynh. I mean you know it's good when they have nothing else on the menu. It's just Pho. So I mean if you came here hoping to order something else you tough out of luck. You just gonna have to settle for their delicious pho. Their mouth-watering rich flavored pho broth.. I can't tell you about the Pho Filet since I've never had it. I'm all about the other meats so that's why I've never ordered it. Tai Nam Gan is 99% of the time what I order at any pho place. Tai is rare steak, Nam is flank, and Gan is Tendon. Maybe I can ask for the Filet meat for my Tai next time.. hm better go back now. Anyways there's a parking lot in the back with a few spots. If that's full you can park on the street but I'd probably read the signs to make sure so your car won't disappear while you eat. The service here is aiteeee. This is leading to a traffic school in El Monte. This is leading to a breakfast at a Pho place in El Monte (Because I chose the class there on purpose so I can come here for breakfast, they open @ 7am. The class is just a couple of big blocks away, a lot of work to make this happen, heh). I'm no Pho expert but I seem to be addicted to it (What makes a Pho? Uhm..., that star thing that gives it unique flavor, you know.., rhymes with Jennifer Aniston or Gary Sinise something like that. What's that? Am I her fan? No, I think she's funny but no. Anyway I think it's called Anistonise). I ordered rare beef and brisket Pho and I was not disappointed. At first it looked like any ordinary good Pho. But the soup was great. I've yet to try it with lime or condiments because I just wanted to slurp that taste until it was all gone. It had a nice deep flavor with slightly sweet aftertaste. The noodles were fresh tasting; I also detected a nice fresh-out-of-the pot pasta aroma where soup hasn't gotten to yet. The beef? Sure, it was good, the rare beef was ok and it wasn't just a cardboard floating in soup. What woke me up, besides the great soup, was the brisket slices. They were so tasty they reminedd me of deviled ham (which I like). What woke me up part II: The brisket was melt in your mouth tender (You sure this is not pressed deviled ham? I am a pho connoisseur having eaten pho all over OC, the valley and Vietnam and I'm picky about my pho. The first place a pho restaurant usually fails is with the broth. No such problem here, the broth is tasty, clean, not to sweet, not heavy in MSG. It's a bit light on aromatics but it's good till the last drop! In Vietnam we often eat pho with chao quay, the fried bread. It's available here and made fresh. In addition, you can get the bone marrow broth with egg which is delicious and hearty. It's just a few dollars and you should get it! The veggie tray comes with the right veggies, even including ngo gai, which is a cilantro like dandelion green known as culantro. The chicken pho my wife had was excellent and included dark meat as it should. It's rare that I will give a pho restaurant 5 stars but this one deserves it. Absolutely great pho, good service, clean bathrooms and quality food. This is my new favorite Pho restaurant. I know there are TONS of Pho places in SGV and what makes this place so special? Well I was a regular at the Pho Hien restaurants (old and new) and Noodle City before that. All good places. Pho Pasteur is good too. But this place is the best. 1. Their Pho Bac is awesome. Pho Bac is North Vietnamese version of Pho. It comes with fresh noodles instead of the reconstituted dried noodles. The meat they use is Filet Mignon. This makes it soft and tender. Their soup is a bit different than the regular Pho and they add ginger to the soup as well. It comes in their special metal bowl, this helps keep the soup hot. 2. You can get all the typical Pho varieties as well, just ask for the fresh noodles. 3. The restaurant is CLEAN! not like most other places. 4. They play sports on their TV's not Vietnamese music videos. 5. The place is ALWAYS packed but I've only had to wait once because the restaurant is pretty big. That was on Christmas or New Years, i forget which. Only bad thing is that they only accept CASH! But this is like most Asian places. Also remember to make yourself a dipping sauce for the meat! Came here for dinner with my family because my fiancé was craving pho bac. It's been about 2 years since we last came to this restaurant but I remembered the pho bac to be pretty good last time. Wow. Last night was my first time having pho filet and learning the difference between pho from the south & north. Pho Bac (filet mignon pho) comes in only one size for $7.75. Meat was delicious with thin slices of ginger. My favorite part was the broth. It's completely different - clear and simple broth without different spices. Here, the noodles are wide like fettuccine and thin sliced rare beef cooked in hot broth. SOOOO good. Not even a huge fan of pho but I'm liking this pho bac. What I remembered from my memory was that the service was excellent and I remembered asking to provide more of the side veggies because we just love to loaded our Pho with veggies and they were so generous with providing them. This time I order the spring rolls only because I wasn't feeling too hungry. The spring rolls doesn't have flavor so you will need to use the dipping sauce that is provided for you if you want more flavor. It comes with peanut dipping sauce as well as hot sauce. So, pick either sweet or spicy flavor of your choice. They would also come check on you and see whether you will need more hot tea or not. I drive 25 minutes to get to this little Godforsaken corner of LA. For me, there's really only two pho places: Pho Filet & Pho Huynh. They're both on the same stretch of Garvey. Let me start with the place we've been going to for years: Pho Filet is our go-to. We always order Pho Bac there. And are never disappointed. But that's really the only thing I would ever order. All the other pho sucks and the slew of specialty stir fries or what-have-you are lackluster. Then, to it's kind of grubby. There's no bathroom inside. And the bathroom outside makes me feel gross. That said, they know us there. This is because we're regulars and big tippers: 25%. Also, we're an incredibly attractive couple. LULZ. And now our pho place twice in a row: We've been going to Pho Huynh, recently, because it's just a lot cleaner. A friend--and Vietnamese American foodwriter--had rated it Number 2, after Pho Filet. This, for her review in the LA Weekly. So, we've been switching things up. Here are the great points: 1) Clean and Pleasant 2) The Pho Bac is not so exciting but Pho Dac Biet is actually excellent 3) They've got those Fried Donuts that Viets and Chinese love 4) They have fresh noodles for 25 cents extra 5) They accept Credit Card So there you have it. Yes, this is a "pho only" place, no spring rolls, no rice dishes, nothing! It seems that the building used to be a taco bell or some other establishment. The inside is crowded and the pace is quick. I had the usual, pho tai, which is rare steak pho. The cuts of meat were not as good as other places, although you do get a decent amount of it. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while and now that they're open late, I was finally able to. I'm told this is more of the Northern Vietnamese style of Pho... Wider noodles and more ginger. This Pho place is the go to place for my brother's family. I live all the way in OC so heading down here to El Monte was a trip for me. I tried the Pho Dac Biet Large. It was pretty good. The soup tasted good and it wasn't fatty at all. The pho noodles were okay and the meats were not bad. The price of pho here is pretty simple.. regular size is $7.50 and large size is $8.50. They mainly serve just pho. They have appetizers such as vietnamese egg rolls and spring rolls. The place is simple and a good in and out place to have for lunch. Would I go here again? I decided to give this place a 2nd chance after my friend raved about the steel bowl Pho. First of all if you're popular for something ADVERTISE IT. The steel bowl was the first thing on the menu and the ONLY thing not translated in English. Food: I didn't like the Steel Bowl Pho at all....yes the meat was super tender but was way too chewy for my liking. The flavor is different....not as tasty and the noodles are different. I'd stick with regular pho...but then again I've had that here already and it wasn't that good. Environment: I actually like the setting here. The decor is new compared to other pho places. Dinged for parking...there is no way I'm going to park my car outside of the lot (not the nicest area).
