This Pho place is the go to place for my brother's family. I live all the way in OC so heading down here to El Monte was a trip for me. I tried the Pho Dac Biet Large. It was pretty good. The soup tasted good and it wasn't fatty at all. The pho noodles were okay and the meats were not bad. The price of pho here is pretty simple.. regular size is $7.50 and large size is $8.50. They mainly serve just pho. They have appetizers such as vietnamese egg rolls and spring rolls. The place is simple and a good in and out place to have for lunch. Would I go here again? I can't totally remember the name of the other Pho Bac place we usually go to, but it was closed today, so we wound up at PH. Troi Oi, talk about happy accidents. And happy endings. PH has a lot of things on the menu, but none of them are the usual accoutrement you would expect to see at a pho place like goi cuon and cha gio ('we no have,' i overheard). PH has pho on the menu, and little else, and with good reason. I had a hard time finding the Pho Bac Filet on the menu until I realized that it was spelled out in huge typography at the (very top) of the first page, even above Pho Dac Biet Xe Lua. House Special Pho Bac Due perhaps in part to the fact that this was my first meal of the day and it was 4:30PM, Pho Huynh offered up one of the best bowls of Pho I've ever had in the States, outside of a private residence. The broth was complex yet light, laden with hand-cut wide noodles done perfectly and plenty of tender rare filet mignon, accented by slivered ginger in the Bac style. Nice decor and very modern. The menu is small with only two pages of food and drinks. Service is quick and prices are affordable. The most famous dish is their #1 Pho Bac. The metal bowl consists of skinny pho noodles, ginger, onions, broth, and minced filet. I thought the broth was okay... maybe because I'm used to all the MSG in pho broth that makes it taste so good. The minced filet meat was flavorful but it came in a big clump inside my soup. The ginger was also overpowering the soup. We also ordered flan and iced coffee. What I like about it is the noodles taste soft and silky but I don't really like is...there is a quirky smell with the bowl of noodles, not sure what it is though...and the chunk of beef in the soup is all chunked up together when served. read more

This place is in the middle of nowhere but man is the pho good! Someone recommended this place to me and I decided to try it out. He told me to check out the filet mignon pho -- #1 on the menu. After gobbling down the pho -- I would have to say that it is the single best bowl of Pho I have ever had. The filet mignon was tender and juicy and the soup was perfect. The service was good too --- especially from the cashier lady in the front -- she let me go to the bank to get some money to pay for the meal since I forgot to bring cash. Filet mignon in pho? Sounds strange to me. I grew up on pho, so I'm pretty picky when it comes to my pho. I ordered the Pho Bac, and to be completely honest, I was pretty disappointed. I'm accustomed to paying $5.75 tops for a bowl of pho, so having to fork over more of my hard earned dollars for filet mignon pho made me a bit skeptical. My first thought when the pho arrived? Is this place korean? Who uses metal bowls other than Koreans, especially for pho? Strange. I also noticed that the broth was very murky. SKETCH. Sorry, I'd like to see my noodles. There's nothing like a big, steaming hot bowl of pho on a drizzly fall day. Pho Huynh is my new lunch time spot for days as such. NOMNOMNOM.. A friend suggested that I meet him here. I'm usually not the person who eats pho/noodle + soup on a hot day, but I was kind of hungry, and I believe it was worth the sweat building on my forehead. I just ordered whatever my friend ordered, the filet mingon with thin noodles. The reason being is that a) I usually don't know what to order going to Vietnamese restaurants because I usually go with my mom and she does all the ordering in her native Vietnamese tongue and b) I used not to eat pho at restaurants because of the high level of MSG but I've gotten used to the idea. The metal bowl came pipping hot to our table, with the usual goodies. But I do kind of miss the banana flower that came with my plate back in the OC. They are currently remodeling, and it looks super modern (a lot nicer than your usual pho restaurant). I like coming here because this pho restaurant uses FILET MIGNON. Uh, AWESOME! Pho Bac ($7.25) aka their Filet Mignon Beef Noddle Soup. It comes with a nice portion of filet. The noodles are a thicker than your usual pho noodles, and the broth has more flavor. I usual like to add a side of meatballs to my order (just because I love meat and I can never get enough of it). 4 stars because of the food. We've been coming here for years. It's one of my son's favorite place to eat. Food is decent (a solid 4 star) and the service is normally good when the owners are around. Today expensive made me angry and not wanting to come back again. We finished our meals and my husband went to pay with his card. As the cashier handed him his card back, she suddenly pulled it back away from him demanding for him to sign the receipt first before giving him his card. What the heck! We're a family with young kids who eat there all the time. Did she think my husband was going to take his card back and run away???? What is going on! I'm literally confused. We wanted to try a different pho place specifically because I woke up early and our go to wasn't open yet. I've seen this place before on social media so I figured let's try them out. They have a good size parking lot in the back with the mural of a doll girl I see on people's postings. The place was almost empty but we did come at 845am on a Wednesday. Couple pluses are the satay they have. I really liked how that tasted. Service was good as well. So the main negative was the pho. My wife and I were not a fan. The soup base was okay. I typically try the soup before I mess with it and I was wanting more from it. I usually like to taste the bone but this was lacking. The other let down was the beef ball and tendons. The tendons are cut thin so it's not the full tendon you get. It changes the texture and taste when it's cut thin like that rather then in pieces. You no longer get the chew from the tendon and I love tendon. The beef ball was also shorted on. The cut the halves into halves. I'm not sure why you would do that unless you were just trying to maximize? But your taking away from the customer. Overall I was disappointed. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

The WORST dining experience I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. honestly don't know where to start so I'll just go down the list: Parking: Always empty because no one eats here. (Located In a shady neighborhood.. don't leave valuables in the car!) Restrooms: Small 1 Person Restroom that is absolutely disgusting! Pee all over the floor! No towels to dry my hands, and the sink handles don't even work. The toilet is clogged with $&@%. The smell is horrendous. Story Time: SMH so this rude waitress comes and says "ok I'm going to take your order now." We said, "Please wait, we still have people in the restroom and we're still looking at menu." The waitress sighs and says JUST ORDER NOW. Like girl can you CHILL?! We just entered your restaurant, traumatized by your sanitary conditions in the restrooms and we haven't had a minute to decide yet! She continues to rush our order for absolutely no reason. While waiting for our food we noticed stains all over the spoons and chop sticks. When we confronted the waitress she said OMG ITS NOT A BIG DEA JUST GET ANOTHER ONE. Um yea it is a big deal! This is why your restaurant has a sanitary grade of B. It's a HEALTH ISSUE. It doesn't matter that If I can get another spoon, if I hadn't notice it who would have known what could have happened. The waitress ideally is supposed to take the spoon back to kitchen and alert the dish washers. Pho Huynh, YOU ARE LUCKY I DIDNT REPORT THIS TO HEALTH SERVICES AND SUE YOUR RESTAURANT. I guess the waitress assumed I didn't understand Vietnamese because she literally started talking shit about me to her coworkers in Vietnamese. They were all laughing saying omg this dumbass is bitching about a spoon. I was furious at this point and I was about to throw hands at this point. She humiliated me In front of the whole restaurant. A couple minutes later she comes back with our drinks and coincidently spills a whole glass of water on me ruining my whole outfit. Her coworkers were all giggling and laughing in the back while we were forced to used our limited napkins to clean up the whole mess. (YES LIMITED NAPKINS because the store can't afford to supply customers with unlimited napkins). Time to review the food. The actual pho noodles were soggy which suggests that these noodles aren't fresh and had been boiled and left there for a while before actually serving. The broth has no flavor which is surprising because all of their flavoring is MSG. The Meats: All Fat..( I was in a party of 9( we all ordered different types of Pho such as Pho Dac Biet, Pho Bac, Pho Tai, etc. Yet it was shocking to find out that they all tasted the same. Pho Huynh should know that it is a crime to false advertise . If you don't have something in your menu than it is your responsibility as a business to tell the customer so that they can order an item that the restaurant actually has. Instead Pho Huynh decides to leave it on their menu thinking that they can sneak in substitutions without getting caught. All the pho's tastes the same yet we all ordered different pho's. Parking sux at this place. I couldn't get out from the parking lot for 3 minutes because it was so small. Backed up my car and a giant SUV blocked the exit but they waved and apologized to me. Close to nearby industrial buildings and in the midst of auto repair shops and taquerias in South El Monte is Pho Huynh, on the farther outskirts of the asian district that is centered in Rosemead. Pho Huynh not only specializes in Pho exclusively, they specialize in only Pho Bo....Beef Pho exclusively! Yup, 22 different combinations of Pho Bo. So if you remember statistics, you need to take the ingredients of rare steak, well done flank, brisket, tendon, tripe and beef ball, and calculate how many permutations there are, and of these, which combinations they do not offer to add up 22. Here's a hint: Beef Ball (Bo Vien) is only offered separately with soup or noodle soup. And there are 2 Dac Biet (specials). OK, put down your #2 pencils now! You can't calculate this logically. There is no Ga (chicken) offered. No Ca (fish). Just Ba. (mature woman) running the cash register to collect for your Pho Bo. I have a sneaky suspicion that the owners are Chinese Vietnamese. Still Vietnamese, but maybe of Chinese descent? Or maybe because there are a fair amount of Chinese in the surrounding cities, the menu is English, Chinese and Vietnamese. (hmmm, is Huynh like the Mandarin word for Good, as in the answer to Ni Hau Ma? Huynh Hau! "How are you? Very Good!")? PS - you can also order noodles without meat, only $3.25 Regular bowls are $4.75. Large is $5.50 The soup has pretty good flavor, not the best as the other neophites have come to believe, but pretty good. Special Pho Combo is the bomb! 5 different kinds of meat. My kind of noodles. The place is family owned for many generations, and it's got a nice homey feeling. It's a large restaurant with plenty of tables. Also plenty of parking in the rear and along the surrounding streets. And I have to say hands down Pho Huynh is the best, and here's the secret. You have to ask for the "Special Sauce". So, I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a bowl of chicken pho and certainly not any thing like curry or rice dishes. They're very generous with the meat here. Although, I would break up the big ball of filet mignon next time as it cooked into one clump on top of the noodles. I poked around the condiments and opened up a jar of what I thought would be the chili sauce. Uh no, what's this? It seemed like some sort of oily beefy concoction...it went great with the meats coupled with a bit of hoisin sauce. Overall, I thought this place was more generous with their basil and bean sprouts. There were even three wedges of lime instead of the one at nearby pho joints. But they are a little bit more pricey. And even though everyone says they don't use MSG, I was very thirsty afterwards and had that MSG tongue after my meal here.
