Grilled Pork, Grilled Shrimps, & Egg Roll Vermicelli

Driving through Boise and thought that some pho might be good instead of fast food. Found Pho Nguyen on Yelp and it's close to our hotel. The restaurant is quite clean and spacious, with a few booths and a few tables spaced comfortably apart. There's also a bar table with a TV. To share, we ordered a large Combination Pho and a Vermicelli with Egg Roll, Grilled Pork, and Grilled Shrimps. The pho came with generous amounts of toppings. The broth was average. The vermicelli was very good. The grilled pork and shrimps were quite delicious, so was the egg roll. Service was good. We were greeted promptly and checked on a couple of times during our meal to make sure everything was fine. Prices were okay.

I've been looking for the best Pho in the Bay Area and this place is pretty comparable in taste but it's Boise! I wouldn't say it's the best but pretty great in taste! The broth, which basically defines the Pho, is light and savory. The noodles were also on point. The meat was a little bland but acceptable. I didn't have to mask the taste in hoisin sauce (Lee Kum Kee brand that is legit Asian) or sriracha. The service was quick but the place itself is not the best. The toilet was a bit dirty but reminded me of eating out in Singapore where all the best food places were not the cleanest. So maybe it's a 5 star if you want to have an authentic experience. It may not be the best spot for a date but then again, if your special someone loves good food, it all depends on you to make date night a special night! One last thing, I appreciated that this place didn't fall into the trap of cheesy names like "Pho-eva" that I see in the Bay Area. Just the last name of the owner. Simple but classy!

Came in tonight cause with it being so cold outside, pho sounded good! This joint is right down the road from me. Honestly with my last visit I was reluctant to try it again. But it was convenient so we gave it a go. We were greeted by someone in the kitchen as soon as we walked in. We sat ourselves at a table and waited for menus. We sat for a good 10 minutes till we were approached. Two of the servers walked by us several times not acknowledging us. We ordered everything all at once. I didn't want to have to wait for our drinks to be taken and then wait another 10-15 minutes for our dinner order. We grabbed some tea and a raspberry Italian soda for drinks. Don't bother grabbing an Italian soda. It is more soda water to syrup so it was completely watered down. For dinner we wanted to start off with cha gio. Main coarse was large pho and bun bo hue. Our cha gio came out and they looked good. They are really small for an egg roll. I would compare the length of them to a fun size candy bar, maybe a bit smaller since they are cut in half. The circumference is about the size of a quarter, if that. You can eat them in one bite. Our pho and bun bo hue came out pretty fast. I would have like to enjoy my appetizer but everything pretty much came out together. My bowl of pho was hearty. It was piping hot. I will have to give props to this place. They are the only ones that really serve tripe and mint with their pho. I got a great amount of noodles which was nice. The brisket was kinda chewy but the steak was good. The bun bo hue was decent. You can taste the heat and lemongrass. The noodles were bouncy and chewy. They both were very filling. Service....... or should I say lack of. We weren't checked up on through the whole dining experience. The server dropped our bill off half way though dinner and didn't ask us if everything was good. People sat after us got taken care of before we did. Nothing much has changed much in service. The service was the worst part of today's visit.

Great service, great pho. The staff seem to love working there too. It was a great experience I will be back. I believe my pho was served to me by the owner Mr Nguyen.

The food was GREAT. The service was a little lacking, but not terrible. I think the actual building could use an update, it seems a little old and rundown. I'll be back, for sure. It was delicious.

Spicy beef pho- perfect for cold days!

We had to ask for containers. The young gal thought she was too good to "serve" her customers. She sat behind the counter and didn't even move. There's only been a couple times I have never tipped a server and the last time I was here was one of those times. As a server for 36 years, how does one not take care if their guests? Especially if it's your family's joint? Well, today my daughter and I really wanted Vietnamese food. We had pho last week but we drove all the way into Meridian for it. We were both feeling lazy so as reluctant as I was to come to this joint again, we decided to come in for the convenience of it's location and not the service. What I love about this joint is that you will always get a hella good bowl of whatever you order. Be it pho, bun bo hue, bo kho. It's going to be delicious I was sad that I stayed away from this place. They legit push out good food. But I refused to be treated like garbage. It was an older lady that worked today. She was really sweet. She had the most beautiful smile of her face when she greeted us. My daughter and I knew what we wanted so after waters were dropped off, so we turned in our order right away with her. My daughter ordered the bo kho (Vietnamese beef stew) and I got the chicken pho. I can't tell you how awesome our bowls looked! The steam coming out of the bowls were fierce! It was hot! My pho looked so good. Hearty chunks of chicken in top. The broth was clear and clean. Topped with fresh cilantro and onion. I added some fish sauce, Sriracha, basil and jalapenos to that baby and it was perfection. The broth was so good! It was just what I needed since I haven't really felt good the last couple days. My noodles were cooked perfectly and had a great chew to it. I had been wanting a good bowl of chicken pho and Pho Nomenal delivered it today. I'm so happy we stopped in today to grab these bowls of goodness. I'm also happy that the little old lady working was so sweet and nice. It's a 180 from the last time we came in. I look forward to coming back soon. Now that it's getting colder, pho sounds that much more tempting to have every week!

For dinner I was tempted to get a bowl of pho since it was so cold outside. But since I got pho yesterday I thought I'd order something different. Tonight's dinner choice was Vietnamese curry with fried tofu. My parents used to make this curry at their restaurant when I was younger. The smell and taste of it will always be a core memory for me. I remember the juicy chunks of chicken, potatoes and carrots in this beautifully crafted curry sauce. I was hoping for something similar. The bowl that was served to me was beautiful. The curry was golden. The sweet potatoes and carrots were vibrant in color. It smelled lovely. My first bite was delightful! It was fragrant in coconut, lemongrass and curry. It was very good! The curry was on the sweeter side as i continued eating it. I was only able to finish half. The curry did come with a lot of tofu! I believe the tofu was pre fried when it was purchased. It was good but wasn't fresh fried tofu. The baguette wasn't fresh. The bread didn't have the crustiness to the exterior of the bread. It was still good though. Compared to my last visit, it was night and day! Service was great! Food was good. The ambiance was casual but yet romantic. If you're looking for a good Vietnamese joint downtown, Pho Nouveau is a great local joint to try out.

I saw empty trays of butter croissants, palmiers, and chocolate croissants. The prices compared to what is being offered in Boise was less expensive so it seemed like Paris Banh Mi sold out of these items. I gathered my daughter and my French mom the next morning to get to Paris Banh Mi at their opening to only find that those empty trays from the night before were still empty. I walked up to the young man at the cashier and asked where were all the croissants, palmiers, and chocolate croissants. He tells me, matter of factly, that what they have is out on display. To be clear, what was out on display was two or three offerings of bakery goods that didn't look fresh or even appetizing. If you're going to be a French bakery and have trays with the words of Croissants, Palmiers, and others then stock it OR Remove them as it is false advertising. Matter of fact, take out the Eiffel Tower by the front door while you're at it. There's NOTHING FRENCH or PARIS related here. I will never come back. It was embarrassing experience.

Noticed they used iceberg lettuce and could use more traditional herbs such as mint and a different type of lettuce. Felt like there was more iceberg lettuce than the actual protein and noodles.
