Came here on a rainy day because who doesn't crave pho when it's cold? Usually I make it at home but today, I decided to try this place out. First off, customer service is great! They are all so nice and friendly compared to other small family owned pho restaurants. They also have a great selection of music playing(if you like the 90's, early 00's r&b) Brisket and Meat Ball Pho: 8.9/10 broth is actually really flavorful and didn't really need to add much condiments to it which is great in my opinion. Nem Nuong Spring Rolls: 6.510 I feel like the pork could've been grilled a little more and it also lacked in flavor. They put the egg roll wrap in it which I love but I can definitely taste the oil that it was fried in. Peanut sauce can be a little more flavorful, it tasted a little bland. Grilled Beef Banh Mi: 5/10 I got it with no mayo so I don't know if it makes a difference but it had this weird soy sauce flavor to it that I just didn't enjoy too much. Seems like a new ownership of this original pho place that was here. One thing to mention is that the food was decent, but wasn't the best that I have had in this cuisine. This place is more of a mix of Thai and Vietnamese food, which is not bad just different! Main thing I was concerned about was that I was trying to ask about a food allergy to egg, but they didn't seem to know what I was asking. Food We ordered three different dishes and it came to be $50, so i would say it is more pricey than other places. The beef stew was flavorful but It seemed to only have a few pieces of beef inside. I enjoyed the Bun Vermicelli they had with grilled pork and grilled shrimp. Again if you are in the area and looking for a fusion, they have a big dining area. They changed management & now they are Pho Rex. This used to be our go-to spot when their chicken wontons used to be soooo good! Now they changed the recipe & it isnt the same. Their portions are great & we leave happy and satisfied with our meal. We usually get rare steak pho, spring rolls, and stir fry udon. We miss the chicken wontons though! Although, I was slightly concerned by its lack of customers during dinner time. Hope it was just an off day for them. Anyway, the friendly staff came right over with the menu. They have some good selection of Vietnamese foods. Prices were okay... there is no longer $7.00 Pho... we're looking at double that nowadays LOL. Funny, they also have one Thai dish... Pad Thai, but no other Thai dishes... we can't really designate them as a fusion place with that LOL. My friend got the Vegetarian Egg Rolls with vermicelli and I got the Seafood Combination Noodle Soup. We both shared our dishes with each other because we wanted to try the other LOL. Vegetarian egg rolls with vermicelli was good, but the fish sauce that came with it was not the most authentic... it was very watered down... it lacked fish sauce and lemon or lime. Presentation was nice. Seafood combination noodle soup was okay... soup tasted msgish... seafood was lacking a bit... noodles and veggies were plenty though. There could definitely be some improvements. I probably will not be back here on my own unless my friend wants to give them another chance and she asks me to join her again. For Christmas Eve lunch, we went to Pho Rex so that my mom could have a break from holiday cooking. Pho Rex took over the former Pho Mai. There are new menus, new table arrangements, screens, etc. I hadn't been since the new owners took over. My brother and his fiancé ordered pho. My mom asked for the egg noodles with wontons and BBQ pork on the side. My husband had the pho with rare steak and I got the pho with rare steak, brisket, and tendon. We had the nem nuong cuong as an appetizer and I also ordered the che Thai dessert. The food came out fast. We ate well. The broth was light and aromatic. The meat was tender. Mom was happy. We ordered for delivery today since it was raining. Collectively we ordered: The #1 pho dac biet aka their combination soup with meat, tripe, tendon, etc. The #2 pho tai The #8 pho tai chin Spring rolls w/ shrimp and pork Bun thit nuong The Broth for the pho was good. I felt like it could still use a little bit of flavor though. I normally always taste the broth before I add any condiments to it and I had to add an amount of lemon, hoisin, & sriracha. They do give you a good portion of meat so I appreciate that! Their spring rolls were mostly veggies. I'm not a fan of those shredded cabbage they use. Their bun thit nuong had great flavors. The good: food and service was mediocre, so we'll start that of as a 3. We got dau chien, pho dac biet, pho Tai Gai, pho Tai gan, and a com suong nuong. The dau chien was way too over breaded and fried from frozen. It was like eating a old bread with the center being an under cooked egg. That took off a little but not a whole star The broth was ok. Pretty standard with some flavor. Once the broth was cold and we got to the bottom of some bowls we saw that there was a lot of msg. I am a fan of msg so no harm there, but indicative of what the broth is relying on to be flavorful. It would have ended there but what ended up taking off 1 star was them forgetting my food and lying about it. I had to remind them and they told me it was because they were understaffed, despite the rest of the table being served and other tables that sat after us as well. Just bad service and when I asked again after reminding them they said they thought I had cancelled it. Not even a "sorry" or "our mistake", I never ended up getting my food. 1 more star removed.
