I've always enjoyed Vietnamese food and I had the chance to eat the grilled meat Banh Mi. Awesome! The baguette was fresh and crunchy. The vegetables (carrots, cucumber, jalapenos) were amazing. You can come here just for the sandwich!! I don't know how much it cost cuz friend of ours paid for it lol, but I liked it a lot so that's all that matters. We sat outside in the outdoor table. Parking was good. Got in the mall early before the Sunday lunch invasion. I can't give my full five star blessing because the broth was also delicious but I know they snuck in tons of msg in the ingredients. How do I know? When I returned home I had food comatose and was compelled to take over an hour nap. I also woke up with an extra two pounds haha. I've been coming here every night for at least 3 weeks straight and today made me not want to go back at all due to their poor service. I ordered a large pho with rare steak and tripe to go, I get home and open up my bowl of noodles and it was practically empty not even a size small worth of food in there. I called them and let them know and first they said they would give me a small pho next visit, 2 minutes later they call me back and said the owner said they can not give me anything at all anymore. Good egg rolls. But had a bad experience with customer service. We had two bowls of pho and the eggroll platter, between the food, the bean sprout dish, our dipping bowls and our drinks we had NO room on the table. We asked for the bigger 4-person table and the server goes "that table fits five" and then stared at us. So we go "ok..can we move there?" And again he followed up with "it seats 5".... NO SHIT YOU JUST SAID THAT. Can we move or no? We abandon the idea and not 5 minutes later a couple comes and sits at an identical table for 4 while we are still at our cramped table for 2. I signed for our check on top of my eggroll to-go container because we had no room. You can get the same quality pho AND a bigger table just about anywhere else for the same price. I did takeout recently...broken rice with pork chop. First off, the egg quiche was an "add" which I'm so not used to. When I got this home, DH took two bites and threw it away. The pork chop was hard, clearly overcooked and hard as a rock. Nuking it in the microwave would have turned it into a weapon you could kill someone with if you threw it. I also ordered the pho with brisket and raw beef. It lasted okay so after a few bites, I also threw away. The next day, I ordered the same things from Pho Hanoi. The food was definitely better and here's the real kicker, it was $10 cheaper. What the heck! Both in Irvine. I get that you have to pay rent especially during the pandemic but at least, make sure that the quality of the raw ingredients are at a level that they actually are edible when you cook it. My friend ordered the curry with che ba mau. The pho broth was clean and really good. There were a variety of meats in my pho. They even gave me meat balls. Usually when I get pho dac biet at other pho places, they don't give you meatballs unless you ask for it for extra money. My lychee lemonade was kinda too sweet. It tasted like those lychee in the can and they poured the all the syrup in it. The lychee drink was red and came with three balls of lychee. I didn't really taste the lemonade part. My friend's curry was good. It had a kick of spice to it. There was more curry than the ratio of rice they gave though. Service was good. They were attentive. This is probably the spot you go to when everywhere else in Diamond Jamboree has a 3 day wait late nights. Well that's why I gave this place a try. We still had to wait, but not long at all. The restroom was clean and the staffs were really friendly as well. So pretty good so far. The menu is extensive and they have a wide variety of Vietnamese food. But the price here is about twice of what you pay at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. Their Banh Mi is like 8 bucks, which is kinda savage. The portions are big here though. I got the Che Ba Mau, the three color drink. It was mostly ice and everything was flavorless besides the coconut cream. Price was a little savage on this little drink. I wish I used it to buy boba or something else. By looks only, I think this place has pretty solid appetizers. I tried the Chicken Wings which were pretty good. Although it does have a strong smell and probably nobody would want to kiss you for a year after you eat that. My main dish was the Mi Xau Don which is crispy noodles kinda looks like a bird's nest which is why it's called bird's nest as well. The sauce for it was a little more watery than normal. So the noodles soaked that up real quick. Probably could use more starch or less of that watery sauce. Flavor wise, I thought it was meh. Maybe below average, like my GPA. If you don't care about flavor, just looking for filling food, and don't care about the price, then this place is not bad. The atmosphere is good for talking with friends. My advice would be skip out on the che and get your self some milk tea or boba or even che somewhere else after. We came there to have lunch. We ordered 3 entrees and 2 kids meals. We received 3 entrees and 1 kids meal, when the check came I asked them to remove the charge for 2 kids meals to 1. The waiter left with the check and my mother in law paid him $150 cash, on a check of $101. He returned 5 to 10 minutes later, with a new bill that was more $106 and a handwritten "18% gratuity added" note on the new second receipt, and $42 dollars. I went to the counter and pressed the issue they fumbled around for a bit and ultimately gave me $8. It didn't dawn on me that they had ripped me off until I was home in San Diego. I'll be filing a complaint with BBB. I would suggest you avoid this place with shady business dealings. They could have done the right thing, but chose to apply thr 18% for a party of 5 when it didn't apply, only to parties of 6 or more. They owed me another 8 to 9 bucks and decided it was better to steal it and play stupid about it. I wish I had taken photos, but they have to save those for business records by CA law. So there's proof, im confident that this isn't an isolated incident. Avoid this place!! Or pay very close attention to the bill, I didn't and it cost me.
