My favorite go-to pho spot in Sacramento. I live in Natomas and I always make the drive to Stockton blvd because I haven't went to a place that has been as good to me as this one. I always get their number 1 beef pho with a plate of egg rolls. The broth in the pho is delicious and I'm not joking when I say the egg rolls are the best I've had. Super flavorful and the wrap is so crispy. On top of that the staff is incredible, they always tend to us and refill our water and make sure we aren't waiting on anything. They are very nice. And the service is quick! My favorite part LOL I never have to wait because they are very quick with bringing the food out. 5 stars!!! I've been coming here for years and it's probably the most consistent pho spot for me. I really like this place because I know the quality that I'm going to get when I come here. The customer service is good and I love how it's open a little later. Recently, I switched it up and I only order the beef stew instead of the pho. My reason for doing so is that you definitely get way more meat than the pho. The broth is also thicker and stronger in taste. It may not be like that amazing Vietnamese mom or grandma's version of beef stew that you would have to wait forever for an invitation to go have some, but it's pretty good. I'm not sure how the other food taste here, because I only come here for their pho noodles, usually the #1 Dac Biet with egg noodles, and sometimes if I'm in the mood, I'll get their 3 color dessert to go. Back to the noodle part, it's a hit or miss with the broth part, sometimes when it arrives to my table the broth is just warm, I like it more when it comes piping hot, well on my last visit it did come just as hot. Other than that Pho taste good. Service is fast. Another note, I did see a medium size cockroach casually just walk right behind me against the wall, on the side of their floor tiling, just strolling along without a care in the world, a brave one. First time trying this restaurant for their Pad Thai. Ever since I moved to Sacramento I have been on the hunt and this by far is the most disappointing plate I've tasted. Noodles were stuck together and under cooked. I asked for a 4:10 on the spice and instead it came out sweet. Sweet as if they used spaghetti sauce. Literally y'all, this came out like spaghetti! Word of advice , if you see the Pad Thai on the menu don't order it. There isn't even a hint of Pad Thai flavors. It's a lot of noodles that tasted boiled in tomato sauce. But the Pho was really good. I think this place is decent. The food tastes well at a fair cost. The service is a little lacking so you could be waiting around for a moment to get service even though it's not that busy. Unfortunately it can get pretty sketchy in here so sometimes I feel unsafe when I'm around the building or inside, but I hear lunch time is more pleasant. The pho is solid. It's a good price. This place opens til midnight!!! Since a lot of the pho places close relatively early, it's hard to get pho late at night when you're craving some. I love their bun bo hue and mango smoothie!! You have the choice of getting spicy or non spicy bun bo hue which is a plus for me since I can't eat spicy food! read more

I've never tried the other food items besides the eggrolls. I only come here for the pho because out of everything I've tried it is the best, the meat is super tasty, broth is great, noodles proportion is more than other places. They also open later than other places and since I work late it's very convenient. Highly suggest the pho. The eggrolls were okay, a little burnt and greasy but no the less still super tasty. Not sure about other food items just keep in mind that "pho" is in the restaurant name and they're a Vietnamese place I believe. First, I must thank the restaurant for the years good service. Fast, delicious, and affordable. The downside has been more recent. On one occassion, a group of us (5) ordered together but the food came out sporadically. It doesn't seem too bad until you considered they forgot one person's order completely. On the second occassion, I came alone and waited almost 40min for my order (#1 is bomb!). Once I realized everyone coming in after me was being served, I asked one of the servers how much longer. She said it's coming out soon. Another 10min passed and I went to the cashier to cancel the order for my table #. Only problem was that he had no check for my table. Perhaps they just thought I wanted to come watch the TV without eating, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt if it wasn't for the lies from the waitress. Horrible service. Portions are huge, (I cant finish the medium bowl!) plenty of servers around and not long of a wait although they are always busy. Wife and I each had the pork vermicelli bowls, the ones with shrimp, number 38 I think, and they were the best! The was a huge amount of meat, three times more than I was expecting and delicious! The spring rolls were perfect along with the dipping sauce. Come hungry because the bowl is huge and jam packed to the brim. At $12, it was the bargain of the month. Last night, I received some very horrendous customer service from this restaurant. And you know it's really bad if I'm going to actually take the time to complain about an Asian restaurant located on Stockton Blvd. Customers don't exactly come to these restaurants for the nice people. There usually are none. BUT STILL. I've always known about this place to have a very unfriendly, borderline hostile team of people working here everyday, but it's been a while since I paid them a visit. Unfortunately, this place hasn't changed one bit. My mother and I went out for a late dinner yesterday, and since options were limited and mama likes her Vietnamese food, she wanted to come here. We usually don't have the opportunity to hang out together, so I wasn't going to tell her "no". When we first got through the entrance, the right side of the restaurant was blocked off completely. This guy seated us at the far left side of the restaurant. It was way too cold there, so my mother and I grabbed our menu and moved to another area where everybody else was sitting. When the waiter got back, I explained to him about our move. He told us we can't sit there and said to move to the area that was blocked off instead. All this was said and done very rudely. The same guy was rushing to put our orders in. I specifically requested no onion in my seafood noodle soup. When the bowl came out, not only were there onions in it, but it was covering the whole top surface area. There was a lot of it. I wasn't going to put myself through the trouble of scooping it out since I was already irritated at that point. So I sent it back. Of course they would make me wait like 15 minutes for my new bowl to arrive. I was just about ready to get up and walk over to the counter to cancel my order when one of the waitress brought it out to me. The food was all right. It is definitely not bad, but at the same time, not good enough for me to deal with any kind of rudeness from people who don't know how to listen. Besides that, I also question the sanitation level of this place. I overheard two male employees talking in Vietnamese about how they need to talk to one of the guy about spraying chemicals right around people's food. Uhm, ew? Oh and the water, the ice were melted down all the way in both of our cups. It has clearly been sitting around to collect dust for quite some time. Gross. With so many other pho restaurants down the same street, I will NOT be stopping by this particular one nor will I be recommending them to anyone else. read more

Saigon is the last place I'll think of stopping by for some pho. There's tons of pho places that are 10 times better. Then why Saigon you ask? Because they're open past 10PM. DUH! It's decent, cheap and it does the job of satisfying your cravings. Saigon use to be good back in the days. How long ago? About 13 years ago, the flavors have went down hill since then. Or maybe our taste buds change. But either way, I wouldn't come here to eat unless ALL the pho place in Sacramento is closed! My younger sister work late so sometimes she doesn't get home til 12AM. Noodles/Pho are our weakness. So when she's craving PHO, I'll pick some up for her from Saigon. Chicken Pho 3/5 $7.25 Broth is fill with MSG, served with white chicken meat, which is mostly dry. It's simple and edible, my sister likes it. That's good enough Seafood Special 3/5 $8.25 So, this PHO comes with 3 shrimps, two slice of squid, BBQ pork and white chicken meat. This broth is a little bit more flavorful than the chicken's broth that's for sure. This would be the only thing I would order from Saigon because I like the crispy, chip with the shrimp in the middle. Again this dish is edible, but not something I would go to Saigon for unless it's past 10PM and all the other pho places are close. Strawberry Shake 5/5 $3.75 YUM! Have you had their strawberry shake? It's freakin good, I won't lie. One thing that they still got it, it's making this shake. It's not hard to make, but I had bad strawberry shake before at other Vietnamese restaurant. So good Job, keep up the good work! Service is a hit or a miss. The value for money is great! If you're hungry, wanting healthier option than fastfood, or it's late at night and you want something warm in your belly, this is the place. Lower your expectations though, I'm being realistic here, the service isn't that great, the restaurant is old and has sticky floors, the location isn't ideal, parking spots are limited BUT for the price you'll pay after your stomach is full, you'll understand why people, including me, come back here for phô. read more

Usually when I go to new pho places I try the hu tieu tom cua and the bom tom thit nuong. The first time I got the hu tieu tom cua in large since there were only two sizes for that dish large and x-large. And it was pretty large I had trouble finshing it, and it was pretty good except for the fact that it was missing a key ingredient?! which was the CRAB?! usually you get that fake imitation crab or a tiny little claw, but I didn't get any crab. The bun tom thit nuong was nothing to die for it was i guess above average like all the other pho places. You really can't mess up a dish like that (unless your hoa viet). But i love the hours till midnight? This place will start replacing taco bell when im hungry. read more

This place is a solid choice for quick and cheap Vietnomnoms. Well, quick if you don't get a large soup, that takes quite a while to finish. Their service is lightnening fast (almost to the point of being pushy) but it's better than being ignored and they are very polite so no biggie. I came here already knowing that I wanted to eat Bun Bo Hue, so I ordered a large and it was massive. Unfortunately, I do believe that the quality and flavor was compromised with the large quantity. I had to add a lot of stuff to get it up to speed, whereas I don't have to add anything to the Bun Bo Hue at my two other favorite places down the street They have lots to choose from though, so I will just try something new next time. A Solid 3 STARS (only) for Saigon. I was making my way back to the Bay Area from a relaxing weekend (12/16/07) in South Lake Tahoe and my wife had a craving for some soup. I was already in the Sac area as I was checking out a pinball machine for sale from the awesome ZEN LEN. I checked out Pho Saigon over Pho King II (see: http://www.yelp.com/biz/pho-king-ii-sacramento )based on the number of reviews (22) and the 4.5 STAR rating. The Pho Saigon restaurant has an extensive Vietnamese/Chinese menu. It's a large restaurant with friendly service. My wife and I both had a bowl of Pho (#2). She had the medium ($5.95) and I had the small ($4.95). In addition I tried the BBQ Pork Chop over Rice ($5.95). All decent choices and you can't go wrong. For dessert, my wife had an Avacado shake ($2.75), which comes with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Yum! Pluses: + decent quality + large portions + inexpensive prices + large screen TV + credit cards accepted (not the case at Pho King II !) Cons/Minuses: This is where having been to many Pho joints in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, you come to expect little things with your meal that were painfully absent at Pho Saigon in Sacramento: 1) No soup with the BBQ Pork (-1/2 STAR). I love eating my rice with some soup. Saigon does not provide soup stock with the Com Dia. 2) No little dipping bowls for the Siracha Hot Sauce and or Hoisin sauce(see: http://www.huyfong.com/no_frames/sriracha.htm ) (-1/2 STAR). I'm not a fan of putting the sauces directly in my Pho. I prefer dipping my pieces of rare flank or well-done brisket into the sauce directly before consuming. The Hoisin sauce is way too thick and too sweet here. If the lil' dippin' plates don't get the minus -1/2 STAR, the Hoisin at Saigon does. Other rants: 3) The soup base at Pho Saigon is strong and overpowering on the Star Anise flavor 4) I'm against mixing cuisines unless I'm visiting some overpriced Asian Fusion restaurant in a major city that's trying to impress me (ie: Cendrillon NYC (see: http://www.yelp.com/biz/cendrillon-new-york#hrid:xZ-701VSHt8x1LClVL3niw ), Red Lantern Bay Area (see: http://www.yelp.com/biz/red-lantern-redwood-city#hrid:c9Yl5KWVq5k9cHtRZbLEFw ) ). Saigon offers Chinese food in addition to the standard Vietnamese fare. I wouldn't recommend anything from their non-Vietnamese menu (-1/2 STAR). 5) Bathrooms are NASTY (-1/2 STAR). If the bathrooms look this gross, I'm sure the kitchen isn't far off. I feel that the 4.5 STAR rating for Saigon is unwarranted in relation to what you can get in LA or the SF Bay Area, but maybe it is the best (?) in the Sac area... Otherwise, Saigon is a decent choice if you're coming to/from Tahoe and looking for an authentic inexpensive ethnic meal. Cheap mother effers who bring down the entire place with their negative vibes My beef stew from Saigon was hearty, robust, and just what I wanted after a day of snowboarding. I was really satisfied with the abundance of beef and whole segments of baby bok choy. But other things also matter. I like to use a lot of limes to make my soup more tangy and delicious. But when I asked if I could get extra limes with my food when we ordered, I was purposefully ignored by the man taking our order. I asked again nicely, and was met with MORE rude silence. True master of IDGAF. When our food arrived (with only 4 wedges of lime to split between 2 pho dishes), I asked my boyfriend to ask the man who took our order, if we could please get some extra limes. Even if the answer is "NO," just say it man, say it! The man angrily replied "you already have limes! Right here!" Well thanks for finally replying. "I know but she likes a lot of limes so would you mind giving us a little bit more?" He didn't reply and walked away bitchily, returning with a small plate of lime wedges a few minutes later. I don't care how good my beef stew was - I thoroughly dislike this place with its gross slippery floors (I almost slipped multiple times while walking through the restaurant and would have slipped + fallen on my ass in the bathroom had I not grabbed onto multiple objects and intensely exercised my thigh muscles...felt like I was still snowboarding) and miserable worker sipping on haterade. read more
