Spring rolls were great. Chicken pho was delicious. Eggroll vermicelli bowl was mediocre. I paid $2 extra for shrimp to be added & got 4 of the most measly shrimp I've ever seen that didn't taste fresh at all. Also, it only came with fish sauce & not any extra dressing so it tasted dry. read more

Second time here and I tried my favorite the number 1 large bowl with pretty much everything in it. Pho is good and I've also tried the fresh and fried egg rolls which were good as well. The only thing to improve is that I expect the bean sprouts and Thai basil be fresh but unfortunately they were not that fresh. Will I go back? I think so read more

The food here is good and comes at a pretty good price. Their pho is good quality and has a good amount of food. The staff are very friendly. They are usually playing sports games on the TV's inside, which is nice. There inside is small but there are plenty of places to sit and eat. read more

Been dining here since they opened. One of our favorite "go to" for speedy, ultra-reliable and consistent food. Would be 5 stars for everything, except their beer menu is so disappointing. For CV19, their small patio is refreshing and charming, but they should expand their balcony out over the parking-lot as well. Pho is the best I've had anywhere. Spring rolls impressive. I ate here recently after 1 year of not stopping in. I used to enjoy the food, but unfortunately something must've changed. I got the pho tai (steak) but there wasn't much meat and the broth was seriously lacking. It couldn't be rescued with any amount of sriracha. I will say there was a hardy amount of noodles. The pork egg rolls were not up to par either. Their wrapping is more of a rice paper so it bubbles up, rather than be smooth and crunchy. The texture is weird and they didn't have that crunch. The filling wasn't appetizing either - dry and lacking in flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken and rice and it both looked and tasted extremely dry, as if it sat out all day. And lastly, not one, but two pieces of hair (1 long and 1 short) in our food (egg rolls and chicken plate). Sad to say that was my last visit. read more

Not the best pho but decent enough if you're craving pho in the area. I ordered a regular pho and the broth was not hot enough to cook the raw meat. The waitress had to bring out a piping out bowl of soup for me to cook my meat in. Pho broth wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked it to be. Not sure if it was not fresh or not cooked for as long as it should have been. Portion was average but price was about average too. Service was nice, Waitress was very friendly and accommodating when I needed anything. The ambiance is casual and restaurant is on the smaller side and dimly lit. Restaurant has its own parking lot but it's small and parking spots are tight so be careful. Would I come back? Maybe if I'm in the area. Otherwise, probably not. read more

I am so thankful that this place is still around. It's been around since I moved to San Diego, about 12 years ago. The food is consistently good. The fried egg rolls are super crispy and wrapped in rice paper which gives it the delicious flakey crunch when you bite into it. Service is always great and food always comes within a few minutes. Everything is fresh and the taste is always on point. I'll continue to make my way here every now and then whenever I am near the neighborhood. I have to give this place a 3 stars . The food is good. There is no doubt about that. However, the service is frankly not great. I felt discriminated as a fellow Vietnamese. I noticed that the server, who is skinny and tall with darker tone skin, was always more friendly and more approachable when he provided service to other guests but not with me. I was the only Vietnamese at the time and the house was full of White and Mexican. Mind you, I only ordered one plate and one boba drink. The server would smile, greet, make jokes, with other guests but not with me. When I made a small request such as getting my Boba drink to go or to pay, he quickly put me aside and told me to "wait a minute" and he prioritized other customers, who made their requests after me. I felt that his tone towards me was harsher than other customers. I felt unwelcome because he never smiled at me and respected me. And, I was sat at the worst seat too, right next to the entrance, with all the cold air blowing to my face and my food all the time. The door didn't shut right. I felt powerless that I couldn't make a request to change because I believed that he would ignore me again and say "wait a minute". I am not coming back here. It's Bien alright. This place is a small shop with the taste of vietnam. I ordered the rice combo dish with egg rolls. The taste is in point and definitely not stingy with portions. Very affordable. Their service is great. Nothing better than a dish of broken rice with a side of yogurt soda and fried egg rolls. The only thing negative about this place is the parking lot. I like this pho restaurant. It's pretty consistent and it feels like the type of pho restaurant I went to growing up in LA. I dunno, I'm not the pho connoisseur but I can def tell decent ones and which ones I like. This one is pretty good. The menu looks like every other pho restaurant you go to, so I'll talk about what frustrates me the most about this place : the parking lot is terrible. There's like no way to 3 point turn out of it, so you basically have to back out onto the street... and the street is garnet. I get anxiety thinking about this parking lot. There's no street parking either. Sigh... it's not the food that's the problem. So I do like coming here, but only on "off" hours. If it's busy I'll go somewhere else 100%. ... so people have told me there's a parking lot in the alley. Maybe I'll check it out next time. read more

Lately I've been on a sd pho binge... I think it's the "cold" weather or because my mind says winter. In a week I'll hit up 3 different pho places, and Sao Bien was in the area as I needed something in PB. What can you expect, pho is cheap everywhere, dinner for 2 will cost under $20. We stopped by for some good ole pho. Can't really go wrong. SB was good but lacked some flavors... Or at least as not as flavorful as it used to be. Or maybe I've just been having better phos (hoa, pho 5th...) it at least satisfied our cravings. I guess for a pho in PB it's decent. It'll hit the spot. read more

I won't be returning to this place, I didn't have an awful experience but it's the worst pho place I've ever been to. I'll start with the restaurant, it's a smaller place, not the most comfortable, but that's not a problem. The staff lingers very near, staring silently while you're eating and conversing with your dinner mates. I suppose it's hard not to with the small space. Just a tip: their menu is very strangely worded, so I would clarify what you're ordering while you're ordering. I ordered "steak well done pho," and I got rare steak with a bit of well done steak. I asked our server and I just ordered the wrong one for what I wanted, which was well done steak pho. The pho/broth was mediocre. We also ordered shrimp fried rice and frankly it was disgusting. The frozen shrimp fried rice from Trader Joes is much better than what they served us. It was sticky white rice drenched in soy sauce with soggy vegetables and debatable tasting shrimp on top. It was pretty gross, we didn't eat it. I edited my initial review because I forgot to mention how good the egg rolls were! Best egg rolls I've ever had. I was surprised. The staff did their best and they were very friendly! No complaints, nice people. My 3-star review is strictly about the food quality and taste. read more
