I crave Pho - just exactly what you want and need at times. Then broth feels healing and comforting...and then you get a bowl of Pho and it has no taste, you have to put sirachi in it to get flavor. Dang, the food is incredibly good here. Food by itself is 4 or 5 star quality. Why the so-so rating of only 3 stars? 1. Service is lackadaisical and you have to yoo-hoo loudly for someone to take your order. And, to being your check. 2. Space is uninspiring for sure. Not comfy. Cold and austere. 3. The double wide front door opens and closes with regularity. Thus, an artic blast changes the room temp by 10 degrees every time 4 No one seems to be in charge. The waitstaff only reacts to the customers with the loudest voices. They need a presence at the front door to marshal customers in and out. 5. Parking sucks, being across from the theater. I don't know why this place has such good reviews. The pho broth had no flavor and was super greasy. It wasn't good at all was excited based on reviews. There were weird black things is my fiancés broccoli and you could tell they needed to change the oil in the fryer on the egg rolls. So happy to have a clean Vietnamese restaurant in town serving fresh, MSG free food. Eaten here a few times since they opened this year, getting attentive service and tasty food each time. The menu is rather extensive, I've tried their fresh rolls, fried egg rolls, pho, BBQ pork with rice, and the crepe on the daily specials. Need to save room and try their desserts next time. This place is wonderful. Most things can be made gluten free and MSG free. This is a rarity in Vietnamese restaurants in general. You can literally get shaking beef gluten free. Ambience is nice and modern and clean. The food was well balanced and tasty. If you're looking for an MSG buzz go somewhere else. This is clean food. Hence the four star average. We tried the chicken and the seafood mixed vegetable dinners. Found them made with fresh vegetables nicely cooked but a totally unremarkable dish. We had the fresh Tofu Spring Rolls, Obama's Favorite Hanoi Faux Pork Vermicelli and Lemongrass Faux Chicken. I was totally surprised by the dining environment in Pho Sonoma. It is so clean and spacious. You can even see the kitchen through a huge window. Without tasting the food, Pho Sonoma had given me a very nice impression. I feel totally safe before eating their food. The Pho I ordered have a least 7 kinds of meat. The variety in meat definitely is their signature. The soup was relatively sweet, but still that made their pho different from others. Service was good as well. read more

The location: In the theater district with FREE parking! The restaurant: Large, clean, casual environment. The tables aren't smashed together...which in my mind is a good thing! The wait staff is happy and attentive (but not hovering). The food: The portions are large and the food is fresh! We started with fresh spring rolls with house made peanut sauce (everything is good with this stuff smeared on it!) and a side of Sriracha. Then (because our eyes were larger then our stomachs) we had chicken three ways, and honestly, for two people...it was too much! We happily took leftovers with us! 1) Fried rolls (usually done with pork) but these were outstanding! We just had a taster single roll because Cang's wife is too generous, but we are happy that she is!!! 2) BBQ chicken with vermicelli - the marinade on the chicken was fabulous, AND they slice the chicken in to bite size pieces. 3) They made a special non-menu item for us: eggplant with green beans, basil, and chicken. As I walked by, I was drawn to the fresh appearance and clean entrance. I was not disappointed with my choice. I had the fresh shrimp spring rolls and had had some recently in Sac 2 days prior. Pho Sonoma's were excellent, and they must have read another Yelper's review because they were tightly wrapped and marvelous. I had beef pho with rare flank, well done brisket and tendon. I have to say that I enjoyed it. Was it exquisite? No. Was the broth lacking depth(other review)? Perhaps, but it was good. By good I mean it was flavorful. I would try the chicken next only because I like to change it up. I finished with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I was pleased with the pricing and gladly left a decent tip. Finally a Pho spot right down P-town! And it's delicious! We had fresh Spring Rolls that were wrapped with lettuce, shrimp, Asian basil, and rice noodles. On the side was some great peanut sauce with a side of sriracha. I had the beef Pho; the broth was very good flavor, with thinly sliced beef, sides of Asian basil, sprouts, jalapeño, and choice of sauces. She has Chicken Pho which was "yum and delish" and she would definitely order it again. For dessert we had Avacado Bubble tea, off the hook!!! This is our go-to Pho stop now. read more

I joined some local friends here for lunch today. They eat lunch here about 3 times a week. He always gets the vegetarian Pho and she gets the pork Bahn mi. I had the vermicelli bowl with chicken and egg roll. My dish was clean and delicious. I'm looking forward to trying other things on the menu. I'm planning on a return visit tomorrow for lunch with my girlfriend. They have a variety of Asian beers. The wine list was very disappointing. They are in Sonoma for goodness sake. I would like to see some good wine choices in the future. We sat outside because we try to always go places that allow dogs. The service was good and the manager came out to greet my friends. I try to give this place another chance, 3rd time, but still not so good. It's over priced and I hate it when they charge $2.75 for a service fee. What's the service fee for? I'm generous, but it's the principle. After paying too much for a disgusting meal and tipping above and beyond.
