No good, very bad place! I was driving long trip from the south, searching for the Pho Nearby. This Pho Tai popped up and within the range. When I arrived a bit disappointed because it's a tiny place, the oily greasy that dragged from the kitchen to the front entrances. Inside needed lot of improvement for the ambiance, I was hungry and long driving and craving for a Pho. The grumpy server refused to serve us and said no more dine in after 8:00 pm. I was there at 7:47 pm there no sign anywhere that indicates no service after 8:00 pm order to go only. I too waffled between a two and a three. I don't want to say cooking vietnamese food isn't hard, but I feel that there is a certain standard that needs to be met having eaten at many a vietnamese place. Acknowledgements: Staff is very friendly and helpful. Even helping out with menu suggestions. Nice menu with lots of variety. Lots of choices for bubble tea. Disappointments. Salad rolls were made of shrimp, noodles, sprouts and lettuce. That's it. No herbs or anything. I got the stewed beef noodles. Good texture and flavor on the beef, but it was covered in this layer of red oil that didn't really add anything to it, but just made it perilous to eat. My wife got the Tofu Pho. It wasn't terrible, but we've definitely had better. My theory is that veggie Pho is totally an american thing so there is a wide variety of ways to make it. The final annoyance was that the check out procedure is not very clear. We never got a check and it wasn't really clear that we were supposed to go to the counter. Overall not a great place to eat. Since I love my car and my current insurance the hazardous road you have to cut across to get there just doesn't make it worth it for me to go again. read more

Today I called in a pick up order for two spring rolls and when I got home I realized they had shrimp and pork in them. I called and politely asked if I would be able to come back and switch them out for two tofu spring rolls since I was unaware they came with meat and shrimp. Being vegetarian, I should have checked the menu and take responsibility for that. However, when I asked to switch the spring rolls I was told that I would have to pay for new spring rolls because it is my fault. That being said, when I called the order in they never asked "would you like shrimp and pork OR tofu?". If there was more than one option, should you not ask the customer which they prefer? If I called in and asked for a bowl of pho would you just give them the most popular item or ask which pho they prefer? Maybe I am wrong to think like this, but to me it seems pretty valid. The customer is not always right, but to blame the customer and not take any ownership or offer any kind of resolution seems like a bit of poor customer service. I haven't been here for a few years, but this was my first time back and it was less than ideal. This was my first bad experience here and it will be my last time coming here unfortunately. Also, I did bring back the food because I wasn't going to eat them but I did it politely and spoke with the manager who seemed to be far from understanding. She kept saying she couldn't refund me because it was my fault, but I never once asked for a refund. I simply said I am just bringing these back since we won't be eating them. I could have thrown them in the trash but since I didn't get to speak to the manager on the phone I wanted to bring them back just so I could witness the type of management they actually have in this establishment. I hope in the future they do better for their customers, because although it was only about $6 and some change it is still money that people are spending to enjoy food they like. I've moved near here recently and have liked coming with friends, the teas are amazing and the pho is delicious, but I will say that it is quite crowded sometimes and not the best place to dine-in, you can hear the conversations happening next to you and behind you. We had Vietnamese salad with pork and portions were generous, pork cooked crispy and that was good. The egg roll that comes with it was too greasy though. That comes from not having the oil at the right temperature. Bubble tea OK, I prefer to have a choice of fresh fruit instead of flavored powders. Bathroom was very clean and that was a happy surprise.. Service was fast and friendly too. So all in all, Pho Tai rates 4 stars in my book. read more

Wow. Went for early dinner tonight. Easy orders. Two pho and spring roll combos. 2 extra spring rolls, without shrimp. A T-15. And 3 waters. We were brought a total of 5 spring rolls. Two with pork and shrimp, three with shrimp only. Sent 3 back, we were given two new ones pork only. We go to put a little chili sauce in our peanut sauce and the bottle is broken with old dry caked on chili sauce both in the opening and on the broken part. So gross. Spring rolls were fine...definitely not the best. Phos came. 3 of them. Sent one back, my daughters beef came out 4-5 minutes later. The beef was barely warm. The rice was mushy. Just not impressed in general with food. Pho was decent. Not amazing. The customer service is horrendous though. We were given menus when we arrived and our order was taken fairly quickly. We were brought our waters and then our food and the staff never came back to check on us at all. The tables around us were being checked on several times...drinks filled up...asked if their food was ok or If they needed anything. Our waters weren't refreshed until we were basically done eating. Bomb.com!!! This place was fantastic! The oxtail pho was unique and super tender, a little awkward to eat, but worth the work. Tofu pho was great, tofu fries really well and in big chunks, very good. Yesterday my boyfriend and I get an order to go. While typically this place is very good and so are the portions. However, with to go orders, if you get a meat like steak or brisket with your pho, it is likely the broth will be too cold to cook the meat. The containers holding the broth are almost full of broth, so you have to drink half the broth before you can even fit the noodles in. The containers should be bigger, or have less broth in them. The staff was friendly as always and id recommend this place for eating in, to go is just a hassle because of the inconsistency with container size and the amount of food. read more

I got the coffee milk tea and the bbq pork banh mi. The milk tea was good and I like how they let you choose your ice and sweetness levels, plus it's super close and I don't have to go far! The banh mi was ok. It wasn't the best that I've had and the pork didn't really have any bbq taste to it like it cooked in a pan verses being grilled. It was a little soggy as well. The BEST veggie '00' on the menu pho (with veggie broth) in town. The place is not fancy as you'd expect. Clean and very friendly place. I have been here several times and this is the most veggies I've ever had -- got there when they opened at 10:30 so may be why. So they don't have the best quality control. I have had their fresh (not fried) tofu shrimp spring rolls and they and the sauce is not that special. But their specialty is pho and that's what I go there for. But I no longer enjoy visiting Pho Tai because the premises have really deteriorated and does make for an enjoyable meal. The floors are filthy and the restroom needs a major makeover. Pho is pretty good. Teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu are both terrible with small portions. I've ordered Uber eats several times and I never get what I ask for. Was debating between a 2 and 3, and ultimately downgrading to a 2 because I think their service is just unacceptable. The food is above average - I would say 4. I've liked almost everything on their menu I tried (pho, vermicelli noodle bowl, pork chops with rice). Servings are decent sized and food always looks and tastes freshly prepared. My issue is with the service. The waitresses are always so cranky and can never seem to smile or show any bit of customer service. I always say pls and thank you, but rarely get a smile or "you're welcome" in response. They just look annoyed and irritated that you need something. There are plenty of decent pho places in Lacey / Olympia where you can get good food and good service. I probably won't be frequenting this restaurant much longer. read more

I am sad to write this mixed review, but I have recently had it confirmed by two different employees at Pho Tai that ALL THEIR BROTH IS BEEF BROTH, INCLUDING THE SOUPS MARKED IN GREEN AS VEGETARIAN. I have had their veggie soup a handful of times in the last year and loved it. Either they used to use vegetarian broth, or the fact that I have never never eaten beef means that I didn't know what I was tasting (I notice immediately if people put in fish sauce or chicken broth). I feel really disappointed that they are now owning up to misleading people and that I can no longer eat their soup. I have asked them to make a note on their menu to inform people that all the soups contain beef broth, so we'll see what happens. I can also say that they make a decent veg bahn mi and passable fried rice, but I didn't like their bubble tea. I thought the teriyaki tofu entree was interesting: silken tofu tempura fried drizzled with teriyaki sauce and served with rice and a strange coleslaw-like American-style salad (I wish they'd skip the salad, the rest was good). They have a couple other items on the menu (noodle bowl, curry dish) that are supposedly vegetarian, but I would ask a lot of questions before I would order at this establishment again. It's really a shame. UPDATE: They have stepped up their game and their vegetarian bahn mi is now quite tasty. The tofu is marinaded and the overall sandwich is quite yummy. I asked again and their broth is still beef, and the noodle bowl comes with a fish sauce, so that's not a safe option either. I tried the one remaining item, the curry, and I didn't like it. I haven't liked other Vietnamese restaurant's curries, so it could be I'm just not a fan (love Thai or Indian curries). I have been here three times. This is currently my husband's favorite place to go get Pho because of the proximity to our house, prices, cleanliness of the business, and friendliness of the staff. The food is consistent and we are always greeted when we enter. Staff is incredibly friendly and recognized us after our first visit. My husband was surprised at the enormous size of the Banh Mi. Pho Tai also doesn't skimp on the amount of tendon in the pho like many places tend to do. They also have a variety of noodle salads I have been meaning to try out. The staff here is very child friendly and are very patient when our 5-year old orders for herself. Pho Tai staff also does not mind when my daughter and I share the large Pho and will always provide an extra bowl for her to use. My family's intention is to eat here at least once a week.
