We decided to get pho for New Years day for lunch since most establishment were closed. Didn't realize that we would see an actual brawl with fist fight in the restaurant cuz somebody didn't have the decency to say "excuse me" when brushing by each other. They both lamented explosives expletives towards each other while family with kids were witnessing their uncivilized behavior. This went on for 10 minutes and I was hoping that management would kick both of them out. No, she pours them tea instead! Both instigators continued their anger towards each other. One guy went to the bathroom and next thing you know fist fights. I had a premonition that as soon as they mouthed off of each other, they were going to fight each other. Teapots, silverware, and soup bowls were scattered and spilled on the floor while they kept fighting. I was shocked because there were innocent patrons with kids witnessing their arrogance behavior. Customers fled the restaurant in middle of eating, we took off and left our lunch for our own safety. My husband's pants/jackets had stains of food. This review is not about the food, its great. The big disappoint was towards management because they jeopardize the safety of the patrons (family, kids, couples) and should have kicked these two adults who behaved liked kids. These two men both had egos that would not allow each other to just "let it go". Instead, they ended up with bloody eye cuts with shattered egos. The management lost money over these two idiots while customers escaped for their lives. I am just happy that there were no guns involved... Go at your own risk since management condones this type of behavior. read more

The pork skewers were a little bit too dry but dipping into the sauce could save it. I wish there were more vegetables. #86 Soda Chanh Duong (Fresh Lemon Juice with Soda) - 5/5 - Wasn't too sweet and 1/2 filled with syrup. Side order spring roll $1.85 4/5 - We ordered this so that we can try both the vegetarian and the meat spring roll. The wrap was a little hard from over deep frying. Decent amount of filling but could have a little more. The vegetarian was filled with taro instead. We waited for 2 minutes for a table. Super high turnover. People come and go in no time. So don't be scared of the line. You also need to go up to pay instead of waiting for the bill. read more

This is the best Pho restaurant in the Valley. I wanted to grab your attention with a good line and I hope that was satisfactory. I'm not giving this restaurant a 5/5 because the service is impeccable or because the ambience is jaw dropping - it's not. In fact it's pretty poor. But most pho places are like that. We know the best pho joints churn out soup noodle like an assembly line. We all get packed into a tiny room with wet tables eagerly awaiting hot pho on a rainy day. They have really good pho here. Like, really good. And delicious spring rolls! The only issue I have is the sort of "communal table" setting. They have a bunch of long tables and they're shared. Which means not much personal space, and it can get pretty noisy. But it's totally worth it. read more

I recalled this pho many many years ago was good but today I went back and it is so terrible. I had ordered the pho tai bo vien ve don (rare beef with beef balls & some other meat) and this isn't meat they served but a chunk of whatever clumped together. The rare beef should be separated by thin slice regardless frozen or cooked in the broth and I haven't mentioned how salty the broth is. I will never go back to this hole in the wall. read more

This is one of the best pho places you'll find in the lower mainland. Even though the prices have an increased from the 6.00 for a large bowl over the last few years, this place will be worth it. The large size is more then I can eat, so maybe the medium is better, though the prices are not much in difference between the sizes. We saw this review online when our normal excellent Vietnamese place was closed.Like the other reviews mentioned parking and finding the place was a chore. We ordered takeout,2 entrees and beef ball pho and 3 spring rolls.The chicken entree was bland and burnt flavour with a inedible fried rice(I thought it would be a quality steamed Jasmine rice) The wife's pho was the same quality,the vermicelli was starchy and clumped together in a big mass.The beef balls were hard (soaking in liquid?) and the pho was not very good. The spring rolls were soggy and falling apart. We only went here because of the reviews but I wonder if the reviews are staff and family or people with bad taste buds.The food was not the worst I ever had,but it was pretty bad and we will never return again...TOTAL LET DOWN. read more

I'm giving this place 5 Stars solely on the Lemongrass Chicken with Rice, Lemongrass Chicken with Vermicelli noodles, French Style Hot Coffee with milk, Spring rolls & Fresh Lemon Juice with Ice (Lemonade, but not advertised as that) Those are the only things I eat and have never had better anywhere else! Anywhere else fails. The french style coffee for those who don't know is ground coffee put into a small drip filter/french press filled with hot water that fits over top of a cup, the coffee drips down slowly into the cup that has condensed milk at the bottom. Once it's finished you take the filter out and pour hot water into the cup that they have given you in a thermos and you stir until mixed well. What you're left with is a super strong but oh so sweet and creamy delicious hot cup of coffee! As you drink the coffee, you keep filling the cup with hot water and the coffee gets less and less strong but still good and still hot. If you're a coffee lover, you definitely have to try! The servers aren't great, they're not mean or anything, they just take your order & bring your food, that's it, they don't come back and then you go up to the front and pay. They take CASH ONLY. I usually take my food to go and its always ready in 10mins or less whether it's for take out or inside. I don't know how they do it because they're always busy! read more

One of the best pho I've tried. The soup base is super flavourful and rich in flavour. The portion is really good and they don't cheap out on the meat. The spring roll is also really good and a lot larger than other restaurants. The reason for the 1 missing star is out of all the times I've been there, a lot of times they forget my spring roll. A great find! I dont know why it took me so many years to find this place. i have never eaten inside because i live 5 mins away but, the place is always packed. They have the best soup i have ever eaten. My husband and i order a large #14 which is a spicy and sour soup with a variety of meats and tons of veggies. One large soup is $8 and feeds 2 of us. The only thing i dont like is they add in some cheap bolonge and some fatty pieces of meat. This really isnt a problem because there is a little dog who is happy to help! In reality this meal feeds 3! If you really like spicy soup you have to try this one. read more

Parking is a b*#% at this shady little place in the heart of Whalley and don't expect anything fancy. But it's worth going if you want some good Vietnamese food! I'm not a big fan of soup but when I am in the mood, the pho from here really hits the spot. I really enjoy their rice dishes and have not found any spring rolls elsewhere that would even compare. I've been here before but it was years ago. I was in town and need a bowl of pho. I decided to try pho tam again. The soup is very good. As good as some of the best I've had. I like to add lots of hot sauce and chilli oil to my soup. I sweat a little and hate the way they don't have napkins at the table. They give you one napkin per person. UPDATE: They may try to rip you off! First of all I noticed a dip in quality of food over the past year. I believe they have changed owners (heard the original owner moved to one of the Vietnamese restaurants near IGA Marketplace in Guildford). When it's not busy the soup is over-flavoured - MSG and rock sugar overload. Other times the soup has too much green onions it overpowers the taste. They don't always give you basil anymore either. Although this hasn't happened to me, I've heard from some friends how fried rice is sometimes cold and undercooked. Overall hit or miss. However the thing that really put me off was that one day I went with some friends, and the woman at the counter tried to rip them off. They ordered one large one medium and a drink and were first overcharged and then the woman unconvincingly said "oh I thought you ordered two large and a drink". There are the prices with tax included on the wall by the front counter, yet she clearly pointed out at the prices LARGE and MEDIUM yet still tried to overcharge them with the 2 LARGE price! Long rows of table, specially flavourful and aromatic bowl of pho, bbq fried rice with amazing meat loaf. The salt lemon soda thats so unique it puts me off ( not for north american palate).
