I have Covid so I'm quarantined. i had a friend pick me up what was supposed to be vegan pho, and they accidentally gave her the beef pho. I was unable to eat it, and because I can't leave, I couldnt return it. I called and they let me know they'd give me a credit for today. I called in for my pho as someone else was on there way to get it for me, and they had no record of the credit and stated I had to pay or wait until TOMORROW to verify if a credit could even be used at all. The food here is great. I always enjoy the food. I live across the street, which is the only reason I come as often as I do. Otherwise, I would find a pho restaurant elsewhere. The service has been awful from the day they opened. There are one or two servers who are fine, but fine is the best I can say about any of them. No wonder there's always a "for hire" sign in the window. Update 5/9/17 - Once again, the service is subpar. We walked in and were seated fairly quickly, then completely ignored for several minutes despite the fact that there were only three tables total, and several employees in view. I guess it was someone else's turn for a table, and she finally came out to help us. The next table that came in were greeted warmly and immediately by someone who said he was their server. For anyone reading recent reviews, Phó Thin is NOT the restaurant that received 50+ health code violations, that was La Frontera/La Puente in MIDVALE. Not sure how that got mixed up in a phó restaurant review.... Anyway, Phó Thin is actually one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to in the Sugarhouse area. I am currently watching staff thoroughly detail clean the chair legs of every chair at every table. As for the food, this place is great! There is a lot of flexibility to the Phó options. I am a weirdo and like just veggies in my Phó. But no tofu. And I'm not actually vegetarian, so I like chicken or beef broth. It's quite easy to communicate that here. The staff have always been very friendly and extremely accommodating and attentive. And the hours of operation are the most accommodating I have found for my wacky work schedule and late night dinners. If you haven't already, check this place out! Located in Sugar House, Pho Thin isn't the most authentic pho restaurant in SLC, but it's a very nice space. The interior was nice and bright with natural light, and the ambiance was very comfortable. It's a new restaurant, and it shows. The servers were all young and friendly. The biggest surprise for me was the menu, and not in a good way. Pho Thin's pho offerings were a little different than anything I'd ever seen. They charged by number of meats - $8 for one choice, $9 for two choices, $10 for three, and $11 for the special (dac biet). That's expensive as it is, and all those prices are for regular size bowls. To "upgrade" to a large bowl, it's $3 extra. That's expensive! You could tell that the menu was written for a different audience. It took me a minute to figure out that "rice noodle salads" were bun (vermicelli). Plus, they didn't have brisket as a meat choice. I couldn't get my usual, Pho Tai Nam, so I settled for Pho Tai Chin instead. On the plus side, the food came out quickly, in about six minutes. While the garnishes looked sparse and I mourned the lack of jalepeno, once I dug in I was very impressed. The broth here is very good. Light and clear, with a nice meat flavor, it was definitely the highlight of this pho. The noodles were great as well, though the meat was a little dry. I should probably start avoiding chin (well-done steak) because it's hard for that to come out tender. Remember how upgrading to a large bowl cost $3? Well, for that price, I would expect to get a LOT more meat and noodles, but my friend was pretty disappointed and finished his pretty quickly. Overall, I'd say it was a good bowl of pho, though the meat quality and portion size were lacking. The amount of meat was generous, though. Also, we found out that jalepeno usually comes with the garnishes, but they had run out that day (even though we were eating pretty early, at 6pm). In conclusion: very nice restaurant, overpriced pho, great broth, portions should be bigger. The food looks and tastes good enough albeit a little pricey, but when I did take-out, I guess I ordered wrong? The new manager or whomever it may be ( the lady with glasses who speaks semi-broken English ) specified to me that you have to order *very specifically* the poached egg with sautèed beef under the ramen section. Granted, there was errors on my side too, as I didn't know "how" to order the food, but I did say "with poached egg" so I suppose I wasn't being specific enough. At the same time however, I think that I may have been misheard a couple of times which I don't fault them for as I am rather soft-spoken, but I do realize that it's a little bit louder in here so I did speak up. I wasn't asked for a name or anything either, so I guess names are for online orders only? However they did remake the order which I'm grateful for, but it did take around an hour... Order aside though, most of the staff is friendly and apologetic, which is good even though I don't particularly mind a bit of attitude. I have been searching all SLC for my favorite Vietnamese dish - curry chicken vermicelli bowl and I have finally found it here! I keep coming back for it and have had it two days in a row now. I'll admit that I was a bit hesitant to try this place given the reviews when it first opened. However, circumstances led me here for dinner one recent Monday night. I had some time to kill between a rehearsal (in Millcreek) and work (over by the airport) and had a pho craving (it happens). This seemed like a reasonable middle point, and I have to say that this spot exceeded my expectations. First impression: "Hey, it's all IKEA up in here. The clientele is appropriately Sugarhouse hip. Why are they playing the Carpenters over the loudspeaker?" I'm seated quickly and get a menu. As most of the other reviews have stated, the prices are definitely on the high side. Your basic pho is $8, and I got mine with an egg yolk, which added an extra $2. Also, a pot of tea is $4 which is kind of outrageous, even if it is gigantic (and served in the heaviest pot and teacup I have ever encountered). Best believe that I drank all of that $4 and sloshed my way into work. I found the size of the bowl to be reasonable, as was the broth/noodle/meat ratio. The broth is how we judge, though, and I judge it favorably. Definitely focused on the savory/salty/meaty taste with almost no sweetness, which is what I prefer. It was sprinkled generously with black pepper which is probably not authentic, but I'm a black pepper fan, so you know. I've had better bowls in town (for less money), but this one was no slouch. The service was very good. Everyone was friendly and things came out at a reasonable clip. I know it was a Monday night, but still. Due to the prices, I don't expect to see myself here on a regular basis (pho is usually more of a lunch thing for me), but if there's ever an occasion where I need my pho with a glass of wine, this will probably be the first place I think of. read more

I figured it's due to the "cool" hole in the wall atmosphere so "cool" people put in reviews who don't really know what good pho is. I get the brisket pho and it's very hot and flavorful compared to Little Saigon. I had to put a lot of Sriracha at Lil Saigon. At Pho Thin, I barely put in any sriracha due to plentiful flavor. Since I moved to Salt Lake, every asian restaurant has been nothing but disappointment. Until I went to pho thin! This is the first Asian that I really enjoy in Salt Lake. Excellent food, great prices, and decent service. The good: I came here with a friend after watching a movie at the nearby theater. It's within close walking distance from a lot of great spots in Salt Lake. The sandwiches are amazing! We ordered the Korean barbecue and chicken hoisin sandwiches and split them both. They are rich with flavor, crispy vegetables, and are served on thick quality bread. The french fries were also very tasty. It seems like they have been fried a tempura batter. The servers were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was very nice with dim lighting and pleasant music. The not so good: even though we liked our servers, our food took about 25 minutes to get to our table. If it weren't for this small detail I would have given them a full five star rating. read more

I got take out and normally I wouldn't give 5 stars without actually dining in the place and experiencing the full restaurant, but what I saw there when I picked up my food definitely deserves 5 stars. Let's start with the food. I got the beef pho and it was AWESOME! The broth was super tasty and ingredients were very fresh. It was well plated in a nice to-go box. Made it easy for me at home. Looked more like nice tupperware rather than those cheap styrofoam boxes. As soon as I got there to pick up my order (which was prompt and on time), I noticed the nice atmosphere. I was expecting some cheap asian hole in the wall, but it was quite hip and modern. Besides the decor, there's a couple of things that earned this review 5 stars. The man that greeted me was super friendly. I asked him if he could add a drink to my order because I forgot to mention it over the phone and he comped the drink, no charge! As I was waiting to be rung up, a group of 4 women walked in. It was 9:40pm (they close at 10) and they asked if they could be seated or if it was too late. The guy immediately made them feel welcome, even joked with them about getting take-out instead of sitting down, and said it's absolutely no problem! We had this for dinner and we were mixed on the reviews. Since I am writing, I am giving it four stars. The pho "vegan style" was really, really good. We also had the pork egg rolls. They had a great flavor and with the sauce it was even better. At the recommendation of the server we also had a chicken rice plate. The qtr chicken piece was way over cooked(burnt-outside, dry-inside)! We didn't finish it and just ended up throwing most of the plate away. The vegan pho packs a solid punch in the flavor department, though they blatantly advertise the use of msg in their dishes. Do some homework... Msg isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Beef itself was cut way too thick for real pho, and tasted metallic--as if it had been overcooked.
