With so much more pho spots opening up in SLC it's becoming harder to stay relevant if you are not making even a fair product. I have been to Pho Bien Hoa twice now and while their Pho is not my most favorite in the Valley, it does hit the spot. The flavor is fair. It's served piping hot and has a fair amount of proteins and noodles. Of course it came with the side of bean sprouts, Thai basil, and jalapeño with condiments set on the table. I order the regular size and it's just enough for me to finish and feel satisfied. I've tried their wings. It had a garlicky, sweet and sour type sauce. They were fried crispy and I enjoyed them a lot. I've tried their lychee on lychee tea. It was a bit too sweet for me. My better half finished it up for me and ordered the shaking beef for himself. It was tender and flavorful. Pho Bien Hoa is close to my area when I don't feel like traveling far. It's affordable. The dining area and restrooms have always been clean on both visits and the service has been great both times. There's usually a small steady stream of people who dine in or take out. We wanted to try someplace we've never been to before and found Pho Bien Hoa in Carriage Square. The place is very clean and has an inviting ambiance. We ordered 3 dishes, Orange Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Beef Pan Fried Noodles. The noodles were very dry. We asked for more gravy but that didn't help. We couldn't rehydrate the noodles to the consistency. The flavor wasn't bad and needed a little sesame oil. The beef was not tender at all. They need to marinate the beef in baking soda to tenderize the beef. The Orange Chicken was missing something when we first tasted it. It needed more soy sauce. When we added that, it took it to another level. The dish had a nice kick to it which made you want more. The Walnut shrimp was also good. My only complaint is that they do not glaze their walnuts. If they did this, it would really help this dish. Overall, it was alright. I'm not sure the Chinese dishes would bring me back. However, I would be willing to try their bobas and Pho. read more

Here's a sharp but respectful 1-star review you can post: the food was good but I paid for extra I paid $35 for one regular pho and one large pho, but both came in the same small-sized portions. Eat here! I've gotten a few tips in the past to eat here, and I wish I had sooner. The fried summer rolls were delicious, they are served with what seems to be a vinegar based dipping sauce that nicely contrasts the savory flavor of the rolls. I ordered a Vietnamese ham báhn mì and a bowl of bún bò huê' - the soup was absolutely delicious. It was savory and spicy with thin slices of beef and pork sausage and thick noodles, and it came out with all the fresh vegetables a bowl of pho would come with, sprouts, jalapeños, Thai basil, cabbage, and a lime wedge. The sandwich was tasty, but I prefer more pickled vegetables and cilantro, this one was a little on the meaty side. My boba smoothie came out a little later than my food, but it was perfect because it was much more of a dessert (I had water with my meal anyway). My waiter recommended the taro smoothie with black sugar boba - absolutely to die for. The service here was really friendly and prompt, I was well taken care of. The location is easy to find and has plenty of good parking. It looks like you can just pop in for a boba tea if you're not hungry, everything is paid up front at the counter. It was a lunch break employee luncheon and everyone loved their dishes. I'm usually pretty forgiving, but in cases of extreme greed I have little compassion. We went in and picked up the food. I accidentally let a 15% tip. The lady came out after I had paid and said she forgot to add for the extra broccoli. They insisted I pay the extra $3. The portions were small, especially for the stir fries, but again it was good. I was nervous to branch out from my favorite pho spot but because they have no delivery services, I went with Pho Bien Hoa for the first time. So so grateful for a wonderful experience! My 28. Rare Beef Pho broth was hot upon arrival, and a couple sips of broth alone confirmed it was just the healing brew I needed. I ordered the extra large portion as I knew I'd want some leftovers and the quantity was perfect. Enough for me to have a portion tonight with a bit more for tomorrows lunch while I'm under the weather. Just meh for me. We all got pho, I got the combination with all the fixings (but it was missing all the fixings) husband got rare beef and brisket and son got just noodles and broth. The brisket was way too fatty with barely any meat, the way it was cut so thick made it hard to want to eat and trust me i love me some good fat. Broth was just ok. Lacked flavor. Pho Bien Hoa has lost its luster since I last visited. Maybe that can be blamed on Covid-19 but there are telltale signs that there just isn't as much attention to detail as there was previously. Then interior is getting a bit shabby, and the menus are a bit tattered around the edges. The dish tank needs a good interior cleaning and on the exterior, only three of the four neon signs are lit. I ordered the house special pho which overall was decent, but not great. The broth was a bit salty and lacked depth of flavor. And the tendon added to the pho was really mushy and lacked the gelatinous texture that I enjoy. With other pho restaurants in abundance, I'll likely go elsewhere for my future redwood road pho fix. read more

Been here a few times. I got pho and it's flavorful. I have also tried their vermicelli bowl and it was good as well. I don't recommend getting springrolls they are not good. It was literally lettuce and bean sprouts with a shrimp and charsil. I wished they would have included more veggies in their spring roll not just iceberg lettuce. There wasn't much flavor to them. Got the cat fish clay pot, pork loin in caramel sauce and spring rolls (with white rice of course). Everything tasted home made like someone's mom or grandma was in the kitchen. These dishes are pretty traditional Vietnamese household meals that mom/grandma would make regularly so it was great to be able to be lazy and still have it taste like home. We went there for lunch today. We got the curry lunch special and (again) my favorite, the beef and eggplant stir-fry:) I honestly think that's the best eggplant dish I've ever had. I really used to love this restaurant. I went every week with friends and family. Over time, portions got worse and prices went up, so I stopped going about 4-5 years ago. I saw that they do deliveries through Grubhub, so I decided to try it out again. I shouldn't have. The grilled pork spring rolls had barely any meat in them. 4 thin slices of grilled pork and lots of fillers, like noodles and iceberg lettuce. The grilled pork tasted good, but I've not seen spring rolls that lacking in a very long time. The pho... All noodles. There were exactly 2 pieces of brisket, 1 tendon, 3 small pieces of tripe, and 4 slices of rare beef. (I asked for no meatballs). Keep in mind, this was the extra large. The broth tastes very much like sugar and MSG. To top that all off, they gave me a sprig of basil that looked half rotten. I won't order food from here again. I really was craving the Thai tea Boba but they were out. Everything was really yummy. We Did have to waive the waiter down to refill our water and get boxes. The cheese wontons filling was super good. I liked the shrimp curry which was served with a bunch of noodles and 6 shrimp, veggies and dressing. It was a healthy feeling light plate for $10. It was intimate and had lots of plants for a jungle like feel. Not sure how I felt about the TV with Giada on there cooking though. The service was very attentive and helpful. Here is a breakdown on the eats: Fresh Spring Rolls: Large order of fresh, not chewy, rolls with a little shrimp and pork added in for good measure. What really stood out was the peanut sauce for dipping. The peanuts had a "just roasted" flavor to them and really made it stand out. "House Specialty" Pho: The regular sized bowl is very large here. It was chock full of meatball, tendon, brisket, flank and tripe. The broth was flavorful and not greasy. They had plenty of condiments. I also ordered some pickled onions as a garnish. It was the first time I have had them and they add a nice bite to the soup. Grilled Pork and Dried Bean Curd Rice Plate: This dish was so good. The bean curd was very unusual and extremely tasty. It was fried lightly and had a great texture. The pork was seasoned perfectly too. My only complaint was the tomatoes served with the veggies were beat. I love this phó place! Def reminds me of the places in California! They have a good selection of dishes on their menu if you're not there for the soup. When I first dined here, I ordered the large (their sizes for the phó is regular, large, and XLarge) Rare steak and meatball and also for the appetizers I had the fresh spring rolls and also their deep fried egg rolls. My husband ordered their pork chop rice plate which included two grilled pork chops, rice, two egg rolls and pickled vegetables w/fish sauce on the side. The broth is amazing! The flavors of the broth together with the meats, noodles and veggies are simply divine. They give you a separate plate of bean sprouts, lime, sliced jalapeños and mint leaves! If you have not had phó, you MUST add all those things(jalapeño optional) and a little bit of oyster sauce(condiments are already in the table), you will NOT be disappointed! I love the fresh spring rolls and also the fried egg rolls of course! The fresh spring rolls has two whole rolls that are cut in half and has a peanut sauce for dipping(so yum)! For the fried egg rolls it come with lettuce leaves and fish sauce which all together is so so good! The pork chop rice plate is good but I personally would have wanted just a bit mire rice to accommodate all the protein and veggies on the plate! Other than that, the rice plate is a thumbs up for me! The reason I gave it a 4 star and not 5 is because of the long wait of the service. The multiple times I have dined there I have waited a long while for our food and having to wave down the server to ask for refills is just a bit tedious. Overall it's a great place to dine or even takeout(they have the option to call in and place an order for pick up or delivery via Grubhub as well), just keep in mind the timeliness of the service if you're in a rush! Waited an hour in an empty restaurant and never got my order. They sat a group behind me 30 minutes after they took my order, which I didn't think anything of, until they brought them their food ten minutes later. I had to leave after that. I felt personally slighted, though I'm sure it was just incompetence. This isn't the first time this has happened here but not to this degree which is the only reason why I'm writing the negative review. The first time I gave them the benefit of the doubt but since it happened again it might habitually be happening. I hate giving out low scores because I want businesses to thrive. Earlier this Month I wrote a review on another pho restaurant. I thought I would try another one to give balance. Pho Bien Hoa in Taylorsville does a really good job with their pho. As you can see with my pictures the broth is dark and rich prior to adding anything like vegetables or spice. This broth is what pho is known for and can stand on its own. The noodles were plentiful and easy to roll with chopsticks and the meat was prepared correctly. The staff are good and refill your drinks often. I would recommend this restaurant for great food and service. read more
