This is my favorite Vietnamese place near me. It's simple and cheap, how Vietnamese food should be in my opinion. It has the basic recipes my family would make versus trying to make "upscale" recipes... which doesn't make sense in my opinion. Anyway, I love this place. I usually order several things that can last for a couple of days. The food is amazing. And I feel like I never spend that much. The pho I love. It has great flavor and I always order hot chili oil on the side. Typically I also get the egg crepe, a lot of places don't have them and I love them. They're fresh. Great flavor. Wrap it in some lettuce. So good. The spring rolls. I love that they're only $3.... some places are charging like $6-8 for them now. I usually prefer the fish sauce over the peanut but they have really good peanut sauce. And the rice combo plate. I love the egg loaf. I wish I could buy the literal loaf, and also their pork is better than most places in the area. I always want to try new things but love these dishes so much it's typically what I stick to. Also, my roommate always orders the egg rolls, they're traditional pork... and also really good too :) read more

Food quality was good but it lacked seafood in their seafood pho. They didn't give any fish balls and when I told them about the issue they went to the back and said I was being difficult and I just don't want to pay for extra seafood(they didn't know I'm Vietnamese). The guy in the back said he "I gave 6 shrimps and 4 squids what more do she want" but there was only 4 shrimp and 3 squid's. I also told them about the amount in the bowl and they kept making it about me not wanting to pay more for extra seafood. I have no problem paying extra if they actually gave me a decent amount in the first place for ordering a XL Seafood pho. After hearing that I didn't want to continue repeating myself so I let it be. I came in 1 hr after opening and was hit by the disinfectant kind of pine -sol type smell from the floors that were still being mopped.... and we're still being mopped after I had finished eating and was leaving! (Really?! Can't this be done before you open so the place doesn't smell so toxic... ) a definite minus as I have asthma and the cleaner was affecting my asthma. (So does the incense stick they burned half way thru my meal.) Plenty of seating. Atmosphere... 1970 cafeteria-ish but clean. Well lit by the numerous fluorescent fixtures. While there are some confusions on the menu such as listing soda brands such as sprite on their menu, but only having Pepsi-7-up products. I quickly placed my order for a soda and a #1 with no tripe. It was hot, flavorful, the meat was tough. The jalapeños I added to my bowl was not spicy at all I wanted a little heat, the basil was lots of black spots. Pho was good but average. Nothing I would call home about, but good enough I would have it again if in the area. Total bill after tax but before tip $9.74 So price was great. However because of the incense and disinfectant messing with my asthma I would probably put off going here again. Business owners need to be aware of people with asthma and migraine sufferers when it comes to things like incense and disinfectants. On a mission to find the best pho in AZ and this is the best pho spot I've found so far. Do you know of another spot? I've tried many from Chandler to Mesa to Phoenix to Scottsdale. Tastes authentic and has good flavor too it. Too bad they don't have fresh pho noodles like in Cali but this spot satisfies my pho cravings. The lady at the cashier and her daughter who helps her is super nice. You also have to go containers for your convenience to grab and go especially in a hurry. Only reason I'd shy away from bringing some is the cleanliness. Floors look like they haven't been mopped in awhile with boxes underneath to help with wobbling with black dirt on them. Not for the faint of heart where I'd take certain friends with high cleanliness expectations but definitely take those who are looking for down right good authentic Vietnamese food. read more

I'm so glad I tried this place. After two attempts in trying this place, coincidentally on the day they closed, I finally made it. This has moved up to #1 pho spot, in my opinion. I have tried over a dozen. It's very laid back family owned business, more commonly refereed to "hole in the wall". I say that with admiration for them. The taste of their pho with flavorful with depth of flavors. They also have traditional Vietnamese/Asian desserts that are delicious. Can't wait to return and try more items. Was excited to try this place, but unfortunately it was not a great experience and it was hard to enjoy my meal. First, there were several tables that were not cleaned up with previous customers dishes, and nobody was cleaning them up through my time there. Second, we requested water as our beverage and it was never brought to us, not even after our food was brought to us. Lastly, the broth of the pho had a sweeter taste, not so much my preference but everyone has their preferences. The shrimp spring rolls were very basic only shrimp, iceberg lettuce and noodles were in the rolls, no other herbs. Also, the sauce that came with the spring rolls was not a peanut sauce which I was expecting since it also said in the menu. Overall, definitely not a 4 star rating as I was expecting :( read more

After two years in Arizona, the boyfriend and I have finally found a good pho place. We were very impressed with the good prices and portion sizes. What's even better is that they also serve way more than just pho - they also have broken rice plates and banh mi! Boyfriend and I usually order 3 or 4 dishes and it comes to around $30. It's actually a pretty sweet deal. Service is slower during peak dinner hours, especially on the weekends. It is located in the same plaza as Long Wong's and we've never had a problem looking for parking. I recommend the spicy pork banh mi, the combo broken rice plates and of course the extra large pho! (The banh mi isn't as good as Lee's Sandwiches, but it's also a bit cheaper.) HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! It's definitely our favorite pho place in Arizona. Being that I feel like a walking ice cube 99.95% of the time, I decided that I needed a nice bowl of pho to warm up with. I've been wanting to check this place so tada! I popped in with the mister for a bite. Portions are huge even without the extra-large upgrade and the flavor is decent. I'm not Vietnamese but I can still appreciate the care that went into their broth. Minus my Bun Bo Hue not having pork blood, I'm a happy camper! It's not my favorite pho place by any means but at $18 for two entrees, an order of springs rolls, and an order of egg rolls, I'd still be back. Phoenix pho place prices in the comfort of the east valley, huzzah! Service is pretty non-existent and the servers like to walk around singing loudly to the music, much to my amusement. It's okay though because all I really need is a water refill when the jalapenos starts burning a hole in my mouth. I got my pho to go and re heated it but it was still flavorful. What I did notice about their peppers was that it wasn't just a standard jalapeño. It was smaller and almost like a green bird pepper. It had a nice kick to it! But overall it's a good pho and priced at $9 for standard size. read more

$5.25 for a huge bowl of pho! $2 for spring roll appetizers! The prices can't be beat here, nor can the huge portions. The menu carries a wide range of dishes, from soups, to rice plates, to banh mi sandwiches. We started with the spring rolls. They were crispy, nicely fried, with a delectable mixture of veggies, ground pork, and shrimp. We each got a sizable portion of dipping sauce to go with the rolls, which I appreciated. We also got the pho ga, and the #59 rice porridge (Mixed meats- squid, shrimp, fish meatball, pork, and imitation crab). The pho ga had a sizable portion of chicken and noodles, and came with a heaping platter of bean sprouts, greens, and limes on the side. The broth was very light tasting compared to other restaurants. The rice porridge was nicely seasoned, but also a "lighter" type of rice porridge, with more liquid and less rice than I usually see at similar restaurants. There were about 2 pieces each of shrimp and squid, a few pieces of imitation crab, and some scattered slices of pork in the mixture. I also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee. It took a long time for all the coffee to drip down into the glass, but once it was ready, it was a thick potent concoction, strong, smooth, and sweet. Service was very basic. Aside from taking the order and bringing out food and drinks, we didn't really have anyone check up on us. I had to grab my own straw from the packaging table, and grab my own to-go container to package up my leftover rice porridge. We paid for our bill at the cashier's table. Great food and good service, moderate prices, in a very unpretentious location. With the colder weather, we were craving some Vietnamese beef stew, which is not on every Pho shop menu. Found it at this local eatery in Mesa. Pho Thuan Thanh is a good choice for Vietnamese food in the valley; something pretty hard to find. It's one of my family's go-to places, mostly because my mom loves shopping at Mekong and I live nearby. I'd rate it a solid 3.5 stars. I usually opt for the pho tai gan with a cafe sua da. The coffee is so handshakingly strong; it's perfection. The pho is good, but certainly not the best pho I've ever had. That being said, I had 0% expectation that I'd ever find the best pho of my life in the Phoenix area. Their broth is okay, a smidgen sweet and not the richest. But, each bowl comes with a good amount of meat/tendon/whatever your toppings of choice are and a very healthy amount of noodles. They are large bowls, in the area of $6 a pop, AKA a slammin' deal. Don't sleep on the com tam either though. I like the bi thit nuong, myself. The thit nuong is very flavorful without overwhelming the rest of the plate, and the bi is a good pairing as far as flavor and texture. The fish sauce is a tiny bit lacking, but not bad. Overall, it's good and authentic but not gonna knock your socks off. For the price point though, it's pretty hard to beat. It'll never be the best Vietnamese food of your life, but always is a reliable visit. read more

NEGLECTFUL... one of the worst dining experience I have had. We came here by recommendation of a "friend." Friend is in quotations because it was one of the worse dining experiences, and it was so bad that I wouldn't even recommend it to an enemy. I came with two Vietnamese people who were craving a particular dish that they wanted to introduce to me. My friend called ahead and said they had this particular dish, but when we arrived, they said they didn't have it because they were out of vinegar. Okay, So not big of a deal, they were out of vinegar, it can happen. So the server suggested like a grilled version that you grill at the table. We also ordered two bowls of pho with that. After about ten minutes. The guy brought out the grill and the plate of uncooked meat and the rice paper skins and veggies. And... That was pretty much it for almost 20 minutes. We watched the other tables around us eat and leave and My friends were getting very annoyed and we were all pretty hungry. So I made one last attempt and personally walked up to the server and said we're missing the two pho, the grill is not on, and were missing a bowl of water to wet the rice paper. He came out with the water and we continued to wait for the pho. Once the pho came, it wasn't even that delicious or flavorful as I had at other pho places. My friends agreed. So, in summary, the food isn't worth the poor service and long wait. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but I have to. I'm giving it 3 stars because the pho itself was actually delicious and you get a lot for the money, HOWEVER, the place was dirty. Disgusting actually. The spoons had dried and left over food and hair on them, we had to dig down 5 spoons to find a clean one. I went to the bathroom and felt dirtier after washing my hands then before I went in. I ordered egg rolls and never got them. I told them when we went to pay and the waitress said "I know" like it was no big deal. The service was absolutely awful. She walked away while we were asking about the menu and was very loud and short and abrupt, didn't answer questions, and was flat out rude. Authentic hole in the wall pho place. It's located in a run down strip mall. The broth is rich and flavorful and this is one of my top spots for pho in town. Also you can't beat the price. It is cheaper than other pho places around that I've found. The downside is that every time I've come here, they've messed up my order so i have to send my food back and wait for the correct order. Great place. Menu is a little big, but never had a bad experience. They could clean it a little better.

Our party of 3 ordered the following: Vietnamese iced coffee, grilled chicken with rice, banh xeo aka Vietnamese crepe, bo kho aka beef stew and vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls. We also got a fresh order of banh tieu and banh bao to go. I tasted all the dishes and they all were very good but, if I'm being picky, some of the dishes had minor things that if tweaked would make it a 5-star dish. For instance, my bo kho and banh xeo were a taddd oily. It tasted good hot and fresh but as leftovers, they would be a bit oily. No biggie, just eat it all there. The banh bao was ok-not bad but I've had better. Overall, a solid place for Vietnamese food and I'll definitely go back to try other dishes. read more

The waitress offered egg rolls with our meal. I asked four times and in three different ways if the egg rolls were "included" and "free of charge" and "no cost" and the waitress responded "Yes". [And yes there is only one female waitress working there so if you get her that's who I'm taking about. She has short black hair]. I asked for clarification because I had never been offered egg rolls in any of my previous 10+ visits to this restaurant. When I went to pay I was charged $3 and she said that she never said the egg rolls were included. She had her manager come to the register to tell me I must pay for the egg rolls. He was very rude in his tone and expression which was confusing to me because he was standing there with my credit card in his hand so there was no doubt I was willing to pay. When I explained to him what the waitress told me he responded by raising his voice telling me that I had to pay for the egg rolls. I believe he was doing this in order to put on a scene in front of his staff and to try to shame me by making it seem as if I was refusing to pay the bill although he's standing there with my credit card in his hand. I eventually stopped him and asked him to swipe my card so I could leave. This goes beyond misleading- I was lied to! The $3 doesn't matter to me and by me not going there anymore it doesn't matter to them either, apparently. Instead of leaving a $5 tip and happy, I paid $3 for egg rolls and left disappointed. In the final analysis I saved $2 by not leaving the tip. Goes to show how business savvy they are. Another little known fact about this place is that they charge a service fee on ALL credit card purchases which adds an additional $1-$2, or more. It's a good thing that there are quite a few Vietnamese restaurants in Mesa, all fairly comparable, many of them concentrated in the same area as this restaurant so no issue with finding somewhere else to spend money on Vietnamese food. read more

Definitely one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in the Phoenix area! Strong assortment of noodle and rice dishes and the broth for the pho was well flavored. They also serve baos which are cheap and great to pack for a breakfast or lunch the next day. Need to try some of the other menu items but I'm sure they will be just as good! read more

I don't understand how this place got so many 5 star reviews. This was such a disappointment. I'd give the pho zero stars if I could. The broth was straight water. Barely any toppings. Even the noodles were terrible. I ordered rice porridge and it tasted okay but definitely full of MSG. Also barely any toppings. They could've at least put a decent amount of green onion... I ordered a Thai tea and it came out at the end of my meal. I didn't even want it anymore. Service was awful as well. Came here couple of times. Pho was ok. Bun bo hue was awful. Spring roll is good. Canh chua was ok too salty tho and sweet. Tried a few other dishes but the one stand out was the sweet and sour squid with cucumbers and pineapple stir fry. Very different and tasty. We were in the mood for Vietnamese Sandwiches. We went to Mekong Sandwiches which was closed (this was our second trip when they were closed 1st was on a Wed - Closed. 2nd a Thursday but closed for a month) so we found this place tucked in a small strip .all behind Dominoes Pizza. The place is what you would expect from an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Unassuming and nothing fancy. We ordered quickly and the food came out in short order. My wife ordered a sandwich and I went for the beef Pho. Both were excellent! I am ready to push the Mekong Plaza locations Unphogettable and Mekong Sandwiches out of my rolodex and replace them with Pho ThuanThanh. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. read more

It is not my favorite in the city but it is high on my list since they got offerings as good as Da Vang on the west Phoenix. It is still my top three in the Valley as far as the quality of the food goes. I love the friendly (possibly lesbian) lady who took personal care of me and treats me special each and every time that I go in. Friendly and folksy place always add extra points with typical surly Asian restaurant service. The broth of Pho is a little on the heavy side but still acceptable. You can opt for Bun Bo Hue if you are more adventureous. I never had a bad meal here. read more
