The number 18 Van Special I had was great. Loved all the different options that came in it and the broth tasted great. I am definitely ordering this again. A No thrills restaurant that is a classic hole in the wall. Parking here stinks! So that is the only negative. But, it's all about the food and the food is really good, at least the dish I had was. Their also is not a lot of air circulating in the restaurant itself, so on hot days it does get pretty warm. They also have one unisex bathroom in their restaurant. Broth was more light in terms of flavor but it depends on tastebuds and some people might like it more light. The menu is reduced by more than 50%, but not a problem as I can always find something. I ordered the #18 Van Special (Fried Won Ton Soup with shrimp, pork and meat ball) an item carried over to the new menu and my favorite from the previous owner. It was a huge disappointment. The broth had absolutely no flavor and they even forgot to include the won tons. We sat there for 45-50 for Friday lunch and not one other customer came in. It seems that all other regulars had already found out about the decline in food flavor & quality. I don't recommend. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue and it was on the spicier side, but full of flavor. Rather than a tomato flavor, it had a slight seafood flavor instead. The pho broth was also flavorful. The only thing that could improve is the portion size. I finished eating and left not completely satisfied. I didn't see an option to increase the size or add more noodles on the menu, but I'm sure if you asked them, you could probably pay for an additional serving of noodles. Parking is a nightmare majority of the time. Carpool recommended or drive a smaller car. Old fashion mom and pop family restaurant. Pho and most noodle soups are excellent and fully loaded with meats and vegetables. I always go for the salty plum lemonade and either Special Pho or Nam Vang Noodle Soup. My Nam Vang order was very delicious and fulfilling. They didn't separate the soup from the clear noodles today. I was surprised. Huge chunks of meats included. Authentic tastes and good ingredients in every bite. Yes, it's about the food quality here. $12-$13 per bowl good noodle soup is much better than elsewhere at $15-$17 these days. Accepts credit cards. They are pretty generous with portions here. Expect long lines when trying to pay at the counter. Most people come in large groups, but pay separately after meals. Not many people after 1:15 PM on a Tuesday afternoon today. Crowds died down. Lots of available tables and seats after 1:30 PM. Note, many customers are folks who work in the surrounding area and warehouses. It's an industrial area and not your typical Pho location. The mother, son, and father are working nonstop tackling multiple tasks. I didn't see a minute of stopping today. Overall, their beverages were also excellent in taste. I was craving pho and this was the only place that accepts credit card payments around where I work, so I stopped by to get takeout. First thing I noticed as I pulled up was that the area looks slightly sketchy and the parking lot is TINY. They have about 4 or 5 spots and the rest are reserved for the auto shop next to it. Regardless of the surroundings, their pho was decent. To be clear, I did have slightly lower expectations because 1) pho never tastes quite the same as takeout and 2) I just wanted to satisfy my craving. So, while I wasn't blown away by the broth flavor and they didn't give a lot of meat (+ the meatballs tasted a bit rubbery), it did do the trick. They also included a small dessert/soup - I couldn't really tell what was in it, but it tasted sweet and was a nice touch. Overall a 3-star kind of place. It's certainly not a top contender for best pho in the area, but it'll satisfying your cravings. read more
