I came here for pick-up yesterday. It's the third time I've order pho from here and every time I have enjoyed the pho. I had only tried the seafood pho before, but yesterday I ordered some chicken pho and I was pleased. I have only tried pho here and at one other place. I don't know if I'm just a great fan of their soup or if their soup is actually as amazing as it seems. I do plan to try other places to compare but I see myself coming back here many more times for the pho. read more

Pretty good pho but this is across my favorite Vietnamese restaurant so I would rather go there than here. However, pho is their specialty and the owners/servers are very nice and attentive. I really have nothing bad to say about this place and I've been here a few times because someone I was with preferred to go here than my favorite spot due to it being close to their work (the hospital). There are TVs all around which is always nice when I have nothing to say to my lunch/dinner companions. I've also tried a few flavors of their bubble tea and I think it's mostly okay. I've had much, much better. The boba isn't always fresh and I really do love fresh boba but eh, that's not what they're known for. I mean, the name itself says pho so I can't really dock them for boba. They're pretty quick to serve the food out. The portions are huge. They're generous with vegetables and meat for the pho. You can bring a big group here and be noisy but it's very casual and the crowd is usually college kids and locals who were just grocery shopping at the next door Vons. It's not a place you'd wanna take a date to unless you're both broke college kids. read more

mmmm that pho broth! I only come here for the pho, which I am addicted to. The broth is much better than some of the other places I have been to in the area. In rare cases, they have been closed and I had to go elsewhere. They are always super nice and they remember me and my order (well i've been here 22 times but..its the thought that counts). I do always get my order to go so I can't say much about inside service. I always get my to-go orders within 10 min. To be honest, not quite as good as the pho broth at OB noodle house (niagara st.) but in the area its the most flavorful. I have had a few other things but nothing memorable...the pho is the best. I get the #26 (veggie tofu pho) but then I add a side of rare steak. Yum! read more

Is this place under new management? Seems so as when I called my order in order I felt the person on the end was a bit tart. You could at least feign that you're happy to take an order. Also, when paying at the store I was told that they charge an additional 4% because they said CC companies charges them 8%. Cmon bro, fees just googled range from 1.43 to 3.5%. Probably my go-to pho spot since it's pretty close to my hood. Pho is flavorful but not insanely greasy like some places. I've had both their rice and egg noodles and like both depending on my mood. Beef stew (Bo Kho) is pretty good as well. I've tried a couple of their entrees and have had no complaints about them. I like that this place is small, so the service is always on point. I've never been here when it's been super busy, but I've always had my water refilled every time I dined in. I do wish they were open just a tad bit later, but that's ok. Until I open my own Vietnamese/Italian fusion place (Pho Geddaboudit), Pho Xpress is my hallowed ground for Pho and egg rolls. Not only is the Pho top notch (best broth in the county, I'd wager), but the pure deliciosity embodied within the egg rolls cannot be explained in human languages. The service--as I've experienced it--has always been on the ball and quick. The servers always attend to our little dog, bringing her a fresh bowl of water and a pat on the head or two. This place has grown on me. I find my pho perfect with an extra order of meat on the side. I mostly take to go but have dined in a few times for lunch. Wait is never long service always prompt and friendly. The servings are big and everything from pho to rice plate to rice vermicilli is pretty good. Everyone here is viet, even the cooks. But they wont make you feel weird if you're not. Everyone here is very friendly, welcoming, and the service is definitely better than most pho places. 5 stars mainly for location and service but there are some other pho places in SD that I prefer. By no means is this place bad though. However I love their bo luc lac (shaking beef rice plate) and thit nuong (grilled) not too pricey tender and flavorful :) P.s. for the pho they use lemons instead of limes if that matters to you :) read more

Saw the bright sign: PHO EXPRESS through my dashboard, my next action turns to a regretable situation. I stop by for lunch. Servers/waiters/waitress is excellent...but WOW! Its literally 3 pieces of tiny beef in my bowl, and I spent more than $7 there... Don't worry guys, I'll come back if...zombie apocalypse breaks loose. After almost finishing my pho, I came across this white piece of object in my food. Touched it, smelt it, and it smelt like mint. I smushed it together and it was gum. I told the worker that there was gum in my food and he said there was no way that it could have been the cooks. Clearly, it had to be one of the workers there cuz it wasn't me. I guess they have a rule in the back that theres no gum aloud but they arent too strict on that if I found gum in my pho!!!! The guy gave me my meal for free. I love this place! It's a small, unassuming restaurant squeezed between rite aid and Vons but it's my go-to place for some pho :) interior isn't fancy at all but who cares - those holes in the wall always surprise you :) Staff is always fast, very friendly (seems like its a family business, not sure) Food is great - I can't consider myself a pho master (nor am I Vietnamese), but their food is certainly delicious! For lunch one day some of us were looking for a Pho restaurant near our office. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Nice well rounded menu, not just a Pho place but with lots of choices. Casual restaurant so it was easy to feel at ease. I had a Bahn Mi which was excellent, the baguette was perfect crunchy on the outside soft on the inside. For an extra dollar I had a cup of soup. The soup was simple but with enough flavor to hold it own as a dish. My friend had the beef pho and he really enjoyed it very much. Service was quick and the folks working there were very nice and helpful. Definitely worth making this a regular lunch spot. read more

So this is my first time dealing with them, ordered thru online and called them to ask to change the time. An older lady picks up the phone and there's a language barrier and she ask me to repeat myself which I did three times, instead of handing the phone to someone else who can help me she hangs up. Called again and this time a man picks up who speaks perfect English, told him what I was trying to do and mentioned that I called and was hung up on. He said all is good with the time change and I say thank you and he just hangs up. UNACCEPTABLE customer service and I haven't even tried their food so I hope it's worth it. read more

I love this place, its a clean delicious place for lunch or dinner. I had my first pho here (and many since) and its still my favorite. The grilled chicken and rice is amazing and so is the xpress fried rice. The service is perfection, Ive never waited more than 5 minutes for my food and it always comes out exactly how I ordered it. David, the main server/cashier, is extremely friendly and always sends me off happy. Ive also been to the new one downtown, which is equally as good but slightly more expensive, they also have a great wait staff and quick service despite the downtown location. read more

can i honestly give a 5 star review when i've never had really bad viet food? nice selection of banh mi sandwiches. pate available! their grilled meats are VERY well seasoned. not just some sweet mess. the owner is an absolutely amazing guy. speaks, english, spanish, viet and was learning thai when i went in. of course the pho is great too. served at a more comfortable temperature than most places... which of course allows you to shovel it into your mouth that much faster. read more

This place has significantly gone down hill ever since the youn guy in the front started working. No customer service extremely rude. I have been going for 3-years now and when I happened to point out that the prices had gone up he retorted " they've always been like that" "you haven't payed attention I guess" I was supporting this buisness through the pandemic trying to go almost every other day to the point that the older man the owner told me not to so I didn't get played out of pho. That young guy is ruining his business because this is not the only bad encounter I have had with him and I try to tip above 30% everytime. I thought that from the OUTSIDE the place would be small and honestly..and possibly..gross? But when I got inside It smelled GREAT, I was greeted by a smiling and friendly guy that works there and the inside totally clean and very modern! I really thought this place was going to be SMALL but it stretches out when you get in! there's like about 15 tables? that fit about 4 people each table. Anyway..the pho was good! I ordered no. 18 and of course like any other pho the amount given was HUGE...even for a small! and the price was only $5.99 for a small and you get every penny worth of that here. I also noticed they get a lot of regulars here espicially staff from kaiser since it's right in front of it! hahaha, but I'd totally come here again because of the staff and food and how suprised I was to found out how CLEAN this place was! It is not the best Pho I've had, but it is good, and it being in Mission Valley, where there is not too many options unless they have a drive through, then I'm happy they are here! It's at the little shopping center 2 door down from the Vons. I think the 1 thing that kept that 5 star for me was that they don't pre-season the meat, not a huge deal, but when I ordered the shrimp, they were bland. Still good though. read more

Man, all the five-star reviews that I read was what brought me into this place. I was trying to relive my pho rush that I experienced while in Fresno, having had some of the best that I have ever had in my entire life. Well, to say the least, this place is only just okay, nothing more. Yeah it is clean and yes the service is friendly enough, but the food was just passable at that and lacking compared to what it could have (and should have) been. I had a large beef pho with rare and brisket beef. First hit with the points deduction was that the brisket cuts all had this nasty ribbed lining of fat, leaving it practically inedible. I had to take out all the brisket pieces and let them cool and only then managed to bite off a bit of actual meat from the white cooked fat. Yuck! The rare meat pieces were pretty big (too big to eat in one bite) and yet few in quantity. The broth was good enough, not too salty, and was quite hot. They don't use the purple Thai basil that I am used to in the finer places, when they bring the accompanying veggie plate for the soup. Only one lime wedge and not enough of the vegetables in my opinion, especially for the large bowl. My friend got the beef and vegetable with noodles plate. She said that the dish was on the greasy side. It sure didn't look like the photo that they had on the menu, whereby we thought it would come with a red sauce of some sort. Instead it was not that flavorful and she had to splooge on a bunch of rooster sauce (what I call it at least) to kick it up a proper notch. We had the Vietnamese iced coffee and it took too long to wait for the stuff to drain properly from the little pots they serve it in. That and it was on the small side, in terms of volume. I'd rather they skip the presentation and serve it ready to drink in the glass, hopefully in a bigger glass with a bit more coffee too. All in all I will keep my pho search going here in San Diego. I'm afraid that the bar was set too high with my experience at Pho Phuong Nine in Fresno. Nothing may ever compare to that place. It's so sad. I'll keep looking though, and in the meantime, I'll take my reading of the various Yelp reviews with a big grain of salt from now on! read more

I confirmed for myself last night that this is a local chain. Since, this is so close to home, I was easily able to introduce my husband to it for dinner on a cold SD night. We split a large pho and the grilled chicken banh mi. He's sold! And, I need to say it -- I think the pho stock here is more flavorful than Pho Cali's. "So close to home" also means it'll be easy to introduce my parents, in-laws, and cousins to this joint when they visit SD. Plus, the banh mi at this location are 50 cents cheaper than Downtown's location. Couple that with it's location, and I'll def be here for lunch on the weekends. I like this place for quick take out orders of Vietnamese Egg Rolls and the Chicken Pho. They remember me as I go there pretty regularly and are very friendly each time Im in to pick up. Pho is the magical cure all whether you have a hang over, a cold or just want some magically comforting warm soup. I love this restaurant because their portions are huge and their prices are cheap! Additionally, it's right by my house so a quick drive for some delicious pho. I admit, they have other items on the menu but I've never tried them...once you find a tasty pho you rarely order anything else. This place is fantastic! I am sad I never ventured in there before - it's very clean, the prices are low, the portions are HUGE (a small Pho can easily be 2 meals for me, and I can put away considerable amounts of food), and the best part? No extra charge for random meats (flank, tripe, tendon). The packaging for the Pho to go is perfect - I was pleasantly surprised when the broth didn't spill on the way home. True, the noodles come out of the box in a big clump, but they separate once the broth gets poured over them, and I got a TON of bean sprouts, a healthy amount of basil/jalapenos, and a pretty big wedge of lime.
