So true to Elise S's review, this spot is pretty vegan friendly, and the customer service is great. As long as you tell them what allergies/restrictions you have they will do their best to accommodate you. This includes using veggie broth for soups and leaving out hoisin sauces (shellfish) and egg. I came here with friends and we got a variety of food to go, including: Crab Rangoon - didn't go over well with my friends because they weren't crispy but some time in the air fryer got them where they needed to be. Veggie and Seafood Egg Rolls - veggie were much more popular with my friends than the seafood, ironically, but they were both well received Chicken Pad Thai - though my friend asked for it spicy, it was not, and protein was pretty low (4 pieces of chicken). Chicken Pho - Pho is star of the menu, get this Veggie Basil Rice - I got this vegan, it was fine and the veggies were fresh, but I wanted more tofu. The flavors this kitchen creates are amazing, but I wanted more food, specifically, more protein. This is my favorite place to get pho. I really don't try any other restaurants because I have been disappointed. They offer wonderful pho with yummy broths and great papaya salads. Allow me to start by saying the food is delicious! I've tried 8 or so different dishes at this point, and loved absolutely every one! But that's not the most remarkable thing about Pho Zaaap! The service was fast, friendly, and overall outstanding, and the small, simple space is decorated with lovely photography and a simple, elegant tastefulness that helped me shed the stress of a tough day! But there's more! I'm vegan, which is usually extremely tricky at Thai restaurants, but the server and chef were both knowledgeable about vegan dietary needs and provided a list of ingredients they would leave out, even suggesting excellent substitutions in many cases! So I ate with 100% confidence! But wait! There's even MORE, believe it or not! My 4 year old daughter got a very contagious and very severe stomach bug yesterday, and my Dad thoughtfully dropped off some of their spicy Lao style green papaya salad, tofu with green curry, and tom yum soup. Straight up the first thing that caught my eye was the name itself. PHO Zaaap. Not Pad See Ew Zaaap, not pad thai zaaap, but PHO. The broth was fragrant and the noodles are on the soft side, which is how I prefer it. However, the fillers are scant lacking essentials like tripe or different cuts of flank and tendon. This is the second time I've been to this cute little spot and I gotta say it's honestly deeeeelicious af. The people there are super sweet, clean and FAST! The food taste like high quality sort of food. I've had pad Thai here and fish cakes and crab Rangoon and massaman curry . I'm gonna keep eating different stuff when I come here cause it's one of them places where even if you might not be hungry you wanna eat it anyway cause it's good...now that I say that I know who to blame for pandemic weight gains and over eating during lunch lol. I was craving papaya salad so I decided to stop in. The papaya salad was tasty even though I asked for extra extra spicy and I got about a mild-med spicy. The chicken wings were just ok. At the end of my meal they offered me a taste of fried beef and omg it was so delicious!! I did see a special on the chalk board of fried beef jerky. Try the pho! It is one of the best in CT for sure. The broth is rich in flavor and they don't cheat you on the meat! Their Tom yum noodle is also good. It's prepared differently than other thai/ vietnamese restaurants I've been to. Let me first start of by saying that I love Pho 501 in East Hartford and Pho Hong Thom in Bridgeport. In terms of pho, they were as good as it gets, until I met Pho Zaaap. Pho Zaaap serves up some of the best pho in the state. The broth was flavorful, noodles perfectly tender, and the chicken/shrimp were of good quality. I thought the quantity of the fixings were more than adequate. I think the fresh garlic that they mix in takes the pho to the next level. And if you're in the mood for dessert, you have to try the Thai custard. The service was really good too. The waitresses were extremely friendly. I was browsing Yelp randomly a couple of days ago and saw that there's a new pho place close to home. As I browsed their menu on Yelp, I saw that their regular house special pho is $10.50. I promptly rolled my eyes. I decided to pull the trigger and drop in at this place today anyways because I'm feeling a little under the weather. I was already in the neighborhood and didn't want to go out of the way to Pho & Spice for my fix. So I gave this place a shot. As I pulled into the parking lot, I already knew this pho is going to be subpar because I HAVE BEEN TO THIS PLACE BEFORE. It was called Pho 911, and it was mediocre. I don't know if this place just changed its name or changed ownership all together, but it doesn't matter. Because the pho is still just super meh, and it's overpriced for what it is. The broth is so so bland, and not even my own hoisin and Sriracha ameliorated the situation. This place did not fulfill my pho dreams today. I would not come to this place again. If you can't make it to Hartford or Bridgeport for pho, then Pho & Spice is the best option in the New Haven area. read more

This place really impressed me with the clean, cultural decor, friendliness and attentiveness of staff, and menu selection. While this is primarily a Thai place, I was there for the pho. I did try the shrimp in a blanket app and it was a great start - shrimp juicy and perfectly fried jn a paper wrap. The pho comes with all the regularly sides (thai basil, jalapeño, bean sprouts, , etc.). The broth was nice a rich and there was a healthy portion of noodles. I thought the beef slices were better than most but not top quality. I guess I am a difficult rater but this probably kept the place from a 5 star. The best part of the meal was the homemade, smoky crushed chili in oil to add to the pho. Our waitress even gave me a little bit to take home! After about five different meals at Pho Zapp, I'm comfortable staying that it's one of the best Asian restaurants within a 25 mile radius of New Haven. Located just over the New Haven line, Pho Zapp is completely unpretentious with simple table and chairs and minimal decoration. There's a listing of specials on one wall and no bar. The food is Thai and Vietnamese. The pho is better than something downtown costing twice as much. Every one of my entrees was fresh tasting and delicious Their lunch special is an unbeatable bargain with entrees starting at $7.99.
