My spouse and I had our anniversary dinner at our favorite restaurant in West Seattle. Phoenecia has been in the neighborhood since 1970 and moved to their current location near the Alaska Junction in 2019. I fell in love with this place after using them for catering. We were looking for a different food experience beyond hotdogs. I was impressed. The family is Lebanese and the father was the inspiration for the food. When I came to k ow the place and the owners, the mother was active in the restaurant. She introduced me to Lebanese oregano (Za'atar) and gave me some to grow. The two sisters have always been nice, but Nadia and Sonya are simple beautiful humans that go Out of your way to ensure you have a great experience. Their wait staff are very good and you hardly know they are present as they quietly bring food and remove plates with quiet excellence. I have always felt warm and cared for each time I have eaten at Phoenecia and have been friends with the owners for about 15 years. I have friends that have food establishments but have not come close to Phoenecia. Burrata is a tricky one for me. To soft and it is like water and bland to a cheese with a very light flavor to begin with and too firm and it can have the texture of mozzarella. The shell of this was perfect and allowed me to enjoy it with the toasted bread. The warmed olives are a great way to start the meal. There is a hint of chili oil and decorated with arugula. I am not a fan of kale, however, the manner in which this salad is made with shredded kale, and a tangy dressing with toasted spiced garbanzo beans with Kalamata olives, blue cheese covered with thier lemon basil vinaigrette was just wonderful. The spicy shrimp strike an interring balance between the slices that are used and heat from the spices. I could eat this dish all night. There just never seems to be enough u til you remember that you still have another appetizer in the main course ahead of you. The saffron chicken linguini was amazing. The saffron flavor was intoxicating and I loved every fork full, leaving the sauce and bread as an additional treat together. I had a small tast of the gnocchi with lamb sausage in truffle oil and found it to be heavenly. I finished the meal With a Turkish affogato and enjoyed every sip and the melted vanilla ice cream simply added to the richness of the flavor. They have come up with a novel idea to recycle bottles that had whisky and use them for water. The shape adds a lovely decorative note to the table not expected. Phoenecia will always be a place like home for me. read more

I had high hopes for this place because I love Mediterranean food and there seem to be very few Mediterranean restaurants in Seattle (especially after Mamnoon closed). While this place was decent, it was still lacking something. We had four in our group and shared the dolmas, trio of spreads, beet salad, truffle and mozzarella pizza, and the nicoise pizza. The dolmas were good (and elevated with the labneh from the spread trio). The hummus seemed bland. You could taste the eggplant in the baba ghanouj, but it was missing a little something (maybe salt or lemon juice). The beet salad was unremarkable. The pizzas were also decent, but I felt that the truffle one was the better of the two. The service was spotty. The food came relatively quickly, but had to wait several minutes after asking for a to-go box and the check to get those. And then we had to wait several minutes after that for someone to come back and collect the cards to pay said check (and about three different servers walked by our table during this time, including the one who had been serving us). read more

Came here not knowing what to expect, beyond it being Lebanese/Mediterranean food and while that is certainly what you get here, it is a fancy looking spot and I felt underdressed, but rest assured that atmosphere is casual. To start I got the "Mediterranean G&T" - gin & tonic and what came out was a gin & tonic about as fancy the restaurant - a stem glass with a huge piney herb hanging out of it. The drink hit. My date got the "Pretty in Pink" which is small, but not in the alcohol percent dept. she said it was good. We shared some small plates - she raved about the Saffron chicken, and I recommended the roasted cauliflower. The Saffron chicken are short cuts accompanied by saffron sauce and some pitas to eat if off of. These sauce for sure is really good, I even put some on the cauliflower. My only complaint is some of the bites of I found to be too salty. The Cauliflower was also good, nicely seasoned but the cuts were huge and tough, I think it would be better presented with the florets. The service was good but the prices for what we got was a bit steep. The "small plates" and drinks came over $70. They were good, but not THAT good. It's a really nice bistro in W Seattle; the staff is polite and accommodating. My partner had the Margherita pizza, which was really good. I had the bone-in lamb chops, which were extremely delicious. This place is great for date night or going fancy dinner out. Not particularly sure if I would bring my kids. I had a really good experience at Phoenecia. We went at happy hour and it was amazing! The owners and servers were very friendly. The decor is very nice with lots of chandeliers. We got the trio of spreads, the bread, hummus, labneh were all delicious. We also got the phoenician pizza and ended the meal with Turkish Affogato which is only $6. We celebrated my sister's belated birthday here on Thursday Sept 26th and it was the perfect choice! Being 50 years in the business, this family run spot was very lively on a weekday. We had a wonderful time perusing over the Lebanese inspired menu. Our server Joe, and sommelier helped us navigate through the 17 bottles of red on the imported menu. During the entire evening, he was entertaining with his friendly banter. He hadn't sampled this bottle so we shared a small glass with him, which he gratefully accepted. The beet and arugula salad $14 was tasty as it was colorful! My sister loved their "Taste of Beirut" $9. Moist seasoned rice wrapped in grape leaves, Mm,mm good. The star of the night for me was the garlic buttered grilled lamb chops $44. Tender, succulent and seasoned just right! While the lamb was awesome, the green beans and whipped potatoes were underwhelming in comparison. For dessert Joe even presented my sister with Turkish Affogato. The ice cream slowly melted as we poured the hot coffee over the sweet scoop of dairy. It was a rich, creamy way to end a birthday dinner! Came here for the first time as the food on the menu looked amazing. It did not disappoint. What added to the wonderful experience were the two sisters, Nadia and Sonya, and our waiter, Jeffrey. First, the highlights of the meal. The cocktails that we imbibed were Pretty in Pink and Take Me to the Beach. The visuals were amazing only to be followed by the taste of our cocktails. The trio of spreads and the cauliflower appetizer were to die for. Now for the great but some hmmms. For dinner we ordered the butternut squash risotto with goat cheese and the roasted mushroom risotto. While we loved both, the squash risotto really should have been named, goat cheese risotto topped with butternut squash. My own perception but I picture chunks or slivers of roasted butternut squash within the risotto, not simply a few pieces put on top. While this risotto was good, it was rather overpowered by the goat cheese. Followed by, wouldn't order again. The baklava. The flavor was okay, but it was dry. While one doesn't want their baklava swimming in honey, this definitely needed more of something. Also, while the ice cream had a lovely color, I felt like I was eating rose petals right from the garden. I don't know what was used, rose oil? Way too overpowering. Would I go again? Absolutely, not only for more of the same and different appetizers, but the ambiance and the genuine friendliness and caring about Phoenicia. read more

We walked in on a whim and were lucky enough to be seated right away even without reservations (it was a weekday evening and there were 4 of us). The staff was so welcoming and friendly. Our server was super helpful. We really gave her full control for giving us recommendations for what to order and she REALLY delivered! Every single thing we ate and drank was sensational! Our server and even the bartender checked in with us regularly and really made us feel so well taken care of. The vibe of the restaurant was higher-end but still so cozy and warm. The moment I walked in I was greeted welcoming by one of the owners. The ambiance is gorgeous and so calm. This is a long standing family owned business, I believe 50 years running now. Two sisters (Nadia and Sonia) own the business and have made sure to create such a great experience and continue the family legacy of their father and mother. My brother and I came in because we were on our way to a friend's food establishment but they were closed so I searched online to find something close. I was sold after seeing the picture of lollipop lamb chops; yummy. My brother was sold after hearing me say there is saffron chicken; mouth watering! The bartender Sonya (I apologize if I mixed the Soni/ya's up due to the I and the y; both awesome ladies) was great as well. We had a great conversation with a regular and we ate so much good food and shared everything. We got the green beans (don't pass them up), the lamb lollipops, saffron chicken linguini, pitta bread (to soak up all the sauces and savor the flavors), kale caesar salad, the fiery lamb pizza, the fig and pancetta pizza, and to top it off we got Mom's baklava. I also got a signature cocktail; of course I had to try The Phoenecia; which did not disappoint. Every drink I tasted was delicious and I will definitely be back to try more drinks, enjoy a convo with Nadia, Sonya, and Sonia, and set my tummy right with another great flavorful meal! My wife had raved about this place and I was ready to try it!! We had the lamb chops, Saffron Chicken, Saffron Rice, and Kale Caesar. I'm allergic to shellfish but my wife LOVED their shrimp also. We were actually served by one of the owners Nadia and she was one of the most amazing people we've encountered. She shared their rich history in the food industry here and of her family who started the restaurant 30+ years ago. What a sweet little spot! My West Seattle friend picked this, knowing I was vegetarian. There were ample veggie options on the menu -- in fact, so many that we didn't know what to choose! Thankfully, our super attentive server was on top of things, recommending 3-4 dishes for two people (he suggested 3 if one of them includes a pizza, since they're sizable -- more on that in a minute!) We opted for the roasted cauliflower with lemon-mint labneh to start, followed by the fig salad. We were swayed into trying two pizzas (despite knowing it would be a lot of food) because we just couldn't decide between them! (Spoiler: for next time, you can do half-and-half.) Our server graciously coursed out our plates (and we needed it -- did I mention it was a lot of food?!) The cauliflower was solid -- though definitely recommend eating every bite with the labneh (the flavors together really sing!) Fig salad was also good, though a bit less memorable (you won't be disappointed if you order it, but it wasn't a standout dish for us). And then: the pizzas! Thankfully my +1 steered us towards the namesake pie (the Phoenecia), because this ended up being our favorite. The melding of salty (olives and sundried tomatoes) plus creamy (fresh chevre) was just spectacular. Dough was perfect. This feels like a less-traditional pizza to me (neither NY nor Neopolitan style) but we enjoyed it just the same. Our second pizza was the truffle oil and mushroom, which was enjoyable -- but again, like the fig salad, less notable, in our opinion. It's a feast to eat here! The owners are super friendly and the staff too. We bring out of town guests here and have had just about everything on the menu. The standouts are: Lamb lollipops - The best grilled lamb chops! It's so good that you'll forget your manners and use your fingers! Tip: Ask for the salt!! It comes in a cute little container with a spoon and is a MUST to bring out the full potential of the lamb chops and other dishes like the prawns and saffron chicken/linguini. Grilled lamb chop - Basically the entree version of the lamb lollipops. This used to be served with a mushroom risotto which I liked better than the green beans pairing. Please bring that back! Fig salad - It's simple but oh so good. I'm not big into goat cheese but I gobble this up. Rose ice cream - It's a controversial one because the taste of it is literally like the smell of roses but not in a nauseating way that a lot of rose products can inflict. It's an exuberant floral flurry in your mouth. We get it with the baklava and the pairing is heavenly. The prices have gone up with inflation so we don't eat here as much but it's still on our fancy date night list especially if we want lamb chops. read more
