Lunch meeting with a business partner. Sat in the bar and the bartender knew his stuff! The place was getting busy for a Friday. It appears that a lot of regulars come here, which is a good sign. I had the Rose Lane chicken entree which was very good. Chicken was moist, Yukon potatoes served in the middle of the plate around the tarragon pan jus was great. Most had long waits, but Phoenix City Grille let me right in-- they also were packed but there was a table-for-one available. Lucky me! My first impression could not have been better: server happily checked on a food allergy issue and came back with full information, so I was able to order with confidence. I met a colleague here for lunch, he said that this is one of his favorite restaurants in Phoenix. The place is located in a strip mall and it has a cute small outdoor seating area. It's a pretty dark restaurant to be careful when you take the two steps up to the dining area. Service is very good and place is very clean. I ordered the following: Roasted Beet Salad ($10): it had mixed greens, candied pecans, orange segments, goat cheese, roasted beets, apples and sherry vinaigrette. It was very good, very light and flavorful and the dressing was perfect. Dreamy Draw Chili ($6): I love chili and unfortunately I'm not a fan of this one. It was too thick so I didn't really enjoy it. This is the perfect place for a business meeting, next time when I'm in Phoenix and need to schedule lunch with a colleague, I will definitely go here. read more

This solid staple of the downtown Phoenix dining scene continues to impress. From its excellent bar staff (who make amazing libations) to its Phoenician-centered decor to its super-friendly staff, it has earned its place in the culinary and dining experience lexicon. Truly excellent food, at truly moderate prices, served in a truly relaxing atmosphere. I was part of a 35 person dinner reservation for a large party, so wasn't expecting "great or amazing", just hoping everything came out hot and/or cold as appropriate. It did. Clearly the kitchen has timing down to a science. All of the meals were very, very good, and all of the diners enjoyed each and every course. This is NOT easy to do! I was impressed and will make this a regular stop whenever I am in Phoenix. My advice - get there 30-45 minutes before dinner. Relax in the bar - soak in the artwork. Chat with the staff. Appreciate how far the Phoenix has risen in the last 20 years when it comes to the finer things in life. And if its summer - well, be grateful for air conditioning! read more

The bar is very dark and a gathering place for after work on a Friday night. They have a large menu for both bar and food So glad we stopped and gave it a try. Excellent restaurant! We had a reservation for 9 on Valentine's Day. We were seated right away and our drinks came quickly, despite the busy evening. Appetizers, drinks and dinners well were all made to perfection! Steaks were exactly as ordered, chicken was juicy and flavorful, lobster was perfect.... couldn't say one bad thing about any of the dishes. I knew that with 4+ stars and a ton of reviews that the PCG would not disappoint and I was spot on. We sat at the bar and had lunch. The bar area has bar and small high table seating. Adjacent to the bar is a group room. I was shocked to see 2 different Pappy VanWinkle products on the shelf (10/12 year for 30/40 a pour). Very nice bourbon selection although I didn't partake. Lunch was corn cake appetizer and a side of potatoes for me. My wife had the soup and salad combo. The corn cakes were sweet and slightly fried but turned soft quickly with pico on top. I don't see how this is easily shareable but it was delicious. Only change I would suggest is to move diced jalapeños into the batter. The potatoes seemed roasted then fried and were super crunchy. I really enjoyed them as something different than standard fries. My wife's soup and salad were very large for a lunch portion. A largo bowl of pinto bean chili and a Caesar salad with heirloom tomatoes for a different twist. My wife commented that the dressing was creamy and the perfect Caesar flavor. We washed it down with some standard wine and beer. After we left we recommended the restaurant 3 more times in two days. It left a great impression. Well done PCG team! read more

We discovered the Grille during the pandemic and we're so happy that we did. We only have done take-out so far and here are the highlights: * everything we've ordered is prepared with excellence and care. The food tastes fresh and amazing. Great chef. * we have food allergies and of all the times we've ordered, we only have had a mistake once. (Never fun to arrive home hungry to find food you can't eat but it has rarely happened) * the food is prepared well for transport. Some restaurants make great food but don't package it well for transport and it's a mess by the time you arrive home. Not the Grille. They know how to pack your food perfectly for a trip. * the menu has gluten, nut, and dairy-free options. And the kitchen is flexible. Although it's a long drive for us (we live in ahwatukee) We will continue to drive up for the great cooking and care from the Phoenix City Grille family. read more

Stagg Jr Bourbon drop on Saturday, January 21st was a huge disappointment. Decided to have lunch prior to the 2pm drop. Since there wasn't supposed to be a line forming, I would be right there. Here's the disappointing part, they said no line forming before 2pm, yet there were people lined up outside 100 deep by 1:30. The event didn't even start until 2. There was a smaller line inside the bar waiting for the drop. I asked someone in that line about why they weren't waiting outside with everyone else and he showed a blue ticket I asked how he got the ticket and he just said he'd been there all day. Hmmmmm. Finally, they ran out of bottles around 30 people. Don't have an "event" advertise that it starts at 2pm without allowing lines and do the exact opposite. Also, you should probably mention that you'll only have a few bottles. That way 75% of the people there wouldn't waste their time. On a positive note, the food was good. read more

We celebrated a friends 97th birthday last night at Phoenix City Grille. We have been here many times and it always amazes me that they continually serve quality food at reasonable prices, with a great staff. Our server, Sophia, was attentive and cheerful. She checked back appropriately and always made us feel like special guests. Her suggestions were accurate and the desert she brought out was the best Chocolate Tort with strawberries was probably the best I ever tasted. I had dinner at Phoenix City Grille for the first time on Sunday night based on numerous recommendations. When I arrived at an unremarkable strip mall, parked behind the building and was directed to enter through the kitchen, I began to question the recommendations. That is until we exited the kitchen into the bar area and arrived at the hostess stand. We were immediately greeted with warm genuine smiles and escorted through a clean, nicely decorated, classy dining room, to our table. Our waitress, Sarah, was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. She made sure anything we may have needed was accounted for. We were there to celebrate our sons graduation from ASU and were hoping for a memorable dining experience; Phoenix City Grille delivered in every way. The food was outstanding! My wife had the PCG Pasta, our son had the halibut, which was the fish of the day, and I had the cedar plank salmon; all three were phenomenal. We finished with a delicious plate of bread pudding. Along with the amazing food they also have an extensive whiskey collection. I'd like to give a BIG thank you to their GM, Cliff. I had shared with our server that some of the recommendations for the restaurant had come from members of a local bourbon group. Cliff stopped by our table and took the time to talk with us about what we liked and may have tried before, and then throughout the evening brought us his personal recommendations for different whiskeys to try. Easily one of my favorite 3-course meals that I have had in Arizona. We started off with the Eggplant Bites which were creamy, crunchy, sweet, bitter, and just absolutely delectable. I followed it up with the Cedar Plank Salmon which is literally served on a plank of cedar (duh), and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Normally too much horseradish (part of the puree on the salmon) can overpower a dish, but PCG had that seasoning on fleek. Lastly, came the Warm Chocolate Torte; goodness gracious what a topper to a meal! The service was also fantastic! We were seated right away and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu. Easily 5 stars....first let me say dark warm atmosphere, our server hands down one of the best I have ever had! You know those people you can tell hate their jobs, then those who hate their job but fake friendly then the people who seem to love their job and 100 percent act accordingly that was our server, she was absolutely fantastic! Bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp, stuffed with cotija cheese was good not great, bacon was crisp which is odd to have crispy bacon on bacon wrapped anything so that was a plus, the shrimp were big but it was relatively bland and Luke warm except for the saltiness of the bacon....it still tasted good just would be better with slightly warm cheese. Hummus was good I like that they serve vegetables with it, PCG pasta was fantastic! Great chicken, light garlic and Chardonnay sauce and delicious big cuts of broccoli, I could live without the sun dried tomatoes too sweet for me but that's just my opinion. Dessert was the bread pudding and I thought it was good (my first time having it honestly) though someone at the table said that bread pudding is traditionally sweeter, I still enjoyed! This was one of the most awkward experiences at a restaurant. I was disappointed because I had heard nothing but good things about the restaurant. Our waiter left the menus as the table the entire time. We ordered both appetizers and entrees that came out at the same time. Plus the waiter assumed we were done with the appetizers and cleared them before. It almost felt as though they were trying to get us out as fast as possible. The food itself was good. The vegetable platter was good and I would order it again. I didn't get to finish all of the vegetables because the waiter scooped it up before we were done. I ordered the beet salad with salmon as an entree. The beet salad was good but the salmon skewer was smaller than I hoped.
