The staff work hard and are constantly on the go. The tables are clean in a large dining area. I try not to leave bad reviews but in this case I feel compelled. First the experience started off on the wrong foot when the cashier did not even acknowledge I had stepped up to the counter. The first work he spoke to me was the total for my order. Then I recieved my order. I ordered the spicy beef. The flavor was fine and it was spicy but the quality of the beef was so poor that I could not eat it. The fat had become so hard that it was basically rubber. This is not an exaggeration. Imagine trying to eat your cell phone case. I searched the bowl for a piece of beef that I could eat safely but was unsuccessful. I found this place after searching for nearby restaurants near my hotel. After a flight, pho sounded really good. I was a little skeptical with the "Express" part. We tried a bahn mi- good bread and the beef was flavorful. The pho, however was very salty. To me pho should be healthy and refreshing, but this felt more like the stock was made out of bouillion. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night. The main reason I am giving them 3 stars instead of 4 is that it took me about 20 minutes to get a small to go order. However it was a Friday night and there was only one other person in the restaurant, and he already had his food. With "xpress" being in the name you generally expect it to be a little quicker than that. I thought I would give this place a try, since it was near DFW airport and I happened to be in the area. I'm always game to try out new Pho restaurants, as there seems to be a bit of a dearth of them nearby where I live. The food was decent enough, but nothing really to write home about. The chicken Pho tasted what I expected it to taste like, more or less, though the regular sized bowl here seemed smaller than at other nearby places. The spring rolls seemed fresh and passable as well. What really kind of sticks in my craw is the fact that this place was more expensive than most other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in the metroplex. I can usually get out the door for about ten bucks for a bowl, some rolls, and an iced Vietnamese coffee. Here, I dropped fifteen for a bowl, some rolls, and a coke. I didn't see coffee on the menu. The restaurant itself looked like it used to be something else, and minimal effort was put in to making it look like anything more than a knock off Panda Express with sparse furniture. We are from Houston area and love pho! We were driving by and saw this place. Nice vibe on the inside. Service was nice and soon as we ordered we were given a number. Thought that meant we would have to wait a while but when they say the place is called phoXpress.. They are not joking. A minute went by not even and we had or spring rolls(A1 & A2) which were very good. The peanut butter sauce was a little to strong for my taste but still good. Our main meals, mine beef and broccoli (c10) was oh my gosh DELICIOUS!! My husband has the large pho bowl (P1 deluxe) he finished the whole thing. Big disappointment! I ordered a Bun Thit Nuong with Tom and a mango smoothie to go. The mango smoothie was the worst smoothie I've ever had, I couldn't even enjoy it because it was too darn sour. Then I opened the Bun Thit Nuong box and it didn't have the shrimps they additionally charged me. Pho was good. And their newest beef tender noodle soup is a must try. My mom ordered it and beef was so tender. The only thing is the lady at the front who took our order spoke poor English so she didn't get my husband's order. My husband was waiting there for 10 minutes until I realized that she probably didn't get his order. We had to wait for him to finish eating. Positive, the jack fruit smoothie was good. negative the the egg rolls had scrambled eggs on the inside with a Grey-ish hue also quite burnt past recognition (like that NJ woman who spent too much time in the tanning booth.). Negative, the vermicelli combination bowl claimed to have 3 different types of meat, yet I only tasted one thing and it was not good, no matter how much sriracha and pepper I added the indescribable flavor fought back... POSITIVE! The jack fruit smoothie only took 2 min. Negative? The pho. All I can say is what the pho? The meat had the same grey hue as the egg roll. It had little grey meat balls that were soft and springy like a tiny grey kitchen sponges. The pho was outstanding and you get a large portion. The broth was excellent and thats what i usually go by for good pho. Their spring rolls were decent, although I like more veggies like mint and cucumbers it was still pretty good with their peanut sauce. I definitely had my reservations about an Americanized pho restaurant, especially one located right by super touristy Grapevine Mills mall. I had also heard from friends that the food there was a tad bit overpriced. Considering that Asian food of the Chinese/Vietnamese variety tend to be pretty cheap, and the area must not be cheap as far as rent goes, I wasn't surprised. Walking in, you look straight ahead to see a sign where it says "Order Here". You actually do not start there, since the line starts off to the left where you see the first section of the segmented menu. That creates a problem right there. First time goers go to a pho restaurant expect to eat pho. Then they see non-pho items (they also offer vermicelli bowls and rice dishes, for example). Variety is great! No doubt about it. However, the trick is to make it easy for the patron to order and not have to remember either the Vietnamese name of the dish, or the English description of it. If you come on a busier day, then you spend more time looking at the various dishes that they offer, which can lead to forgetting what sounded good to you or what it was called. I can see someone getting to the front of the line only to not remember what they wanted, making everyone else wait just a bit longer. I ordered a size Regular bowl of beef "filet mignon" pho and added meatballs to it. It cost about the same as a typical Large bowl at other Dallas-Area pho restaurants. Needless to say, as soon as I saw my food, I knew I'd still be hungry. They serve the pho with the typical assortment of mint, beansprouts, jalapenos, and lime slice to spruce it. The broth itself was not bad at all. They made sure to skim off the top of the broth as it was being made so it didn't leave the patron's broth cloudy and fatty as they ate it. As a whole, the pho was surprisingly decent and worth having again in a pinch. Service was par for the course for pho restaurants, basically meaning non-existent after you get your food, but since you get your own drinks, it doesn't really matter. The restaurant itself was clean and looked presentable, with a couple of flat panel TVs to watch if you so chose. I may try this place again in the future for some of their other items, however the pho won't sway me from my go-to spot in Carrollton (Pho Pasteur). read more
