We decided to check this place out according to its reviews. I gave almost 20,000 readers on Trip Advisor. This is our opinion. We ordered a veggy pizza as my friend is a vegetarian. The grilled veggy pizza was on another menu we were not originally given... We almost walked out. We also ordered the scallop appetizer and a glass of Chianti. The restaurant seemed like it was carved out of a grotto- very nice. Waiter was wonderfully ethnic, a bit difficult to understand, a bit over attentive, service was fine. Pizza was small, difficult to eat due to the random cuts, few large artichoke pieces were not appealing and very few veggies. Scarcely any cheese if any. Very overpriced in every way. 3 small Scallops in mushrooms were undercooked and minimally spiced which Is not one of my complaints. Had to ask for bread. No butter: very nice olive oils to dip into. Dish was not hot: a bit of a concern with fish that is supposed to come out cooked. Chianti was good; glass was large, portion was small. 1 appetizer, 1 pizza, 1 glass wine= $45.60 plus tip. I gave this one star for the poor quality and portions of food. Place was nice and I would only recommend this place to have some wine, but there are way better places for great pizza, great wines and ambiance. Maybe see for yourself. read more

As a visitor of the city, it can get quite overwhelming to find a place amidst all the options available. My guy found this place while having a beer at the Library. The reviews looked good, the pictures looked appetizing, so we chose Piacere. Non mi piace. We ordered the grilled calamari app, I got the porcini and truffle pasta, and my dude, the sausage and mushroom pizza. The calamari was okay. I got hints of the bitter, burnt flavor from the grilling, but it was good. Then the entrees came. I couldn't believe how BLAND the pasta was. It absolutely lacked any seasoning whatsoever! Even with the Parmesan cheese on top didn't help any. I had to wait a while for a waiter to come by to ask for the salt, as they were too busy on their phones. I was annoyed and ended up not eating the pasta. I gave it to my guy. I took a bite of his pizza and I wish that's what I ordered instead. I was also disappointed that the waiter didn't tell us about any specials. I only know there were specials because I heard one of them tell the table next to us about them. I would have rather had one of the pasta on their specials (seafood pasta), but seeing as the one I ordered came out tasteless, maybe it didn't matter. Since I'm from Philly, I won't be back here when I do come back to NYC. I'm all the more glad I live in a city that offers great Italian food. read more

EEEExcelent pizza! WOW! Perfect thin crust. I had the San Danielle and my husband had the Calabrese. Both just perfect. The environment is cozy, but it's half bar, half restaurant.....and you can feel that. Not necessarily bad or good, just noting that it feels a little like a bar. The wine list could use some improvement tho. The bottle list was ok, but a little expensive, and there wasn't much of a selection for glasses. It was ok, but not amazing. Service was spot on tho. Amazing quality pizza - I got it twice on a recent visit to NYC. Be sure to watch when they make it for you - it is like a TV show. The guy pours some liquid batter on a wooden ladle, spreads on it cherry tomatoes cut in half (not a sauce), throws in generous helpings of buffalo mozzarella and puts the ladle into an open wood-burning stove. He then moves a burning log near your pizza - and in two minutes you receive the freshest, tastiest, and absolutely addictive small pizza pie. Unforgettable! read more

We've been here 3 times now over the years. We brought my parents last night, and had a lovely meal. Wonderful appetizers (try the zucchini thing!) and delicious entrees - seafood pasta special, pizza, linguini with clams, and pasta w mushrooms & truffles. I stopped into Piacere on a really chilly night and was warmly welcomed into this adorable restaurant. I loved the decor, very welcoming with the brick oven in the back and I especially loved that you could smell the fresh herbs! ALSO everyone was Italian, not Brooklyn-Italian but real Italian! To start they had a good wine list (and reasonably pricedl). I had the pizza with peppers and onions which was really delicious, it was a very thin crust and you can tell all ingredients were fresh. I also had the broccoli rabe which had great flavor. My two notes are that the brocolli rabe had a lot of stems in it and probably could have cooked a touch longer and parts of my crust were a little burnt (but that didn't affect the flavor, just was a weird feeling in my mouth). One of the BEST authentic Italian restaurants in NYC. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night at around 12am and the restaurant was packed. The service was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly. We had the prosciutto pizza and guanciale pizza and both were delicious!!! We also had the calamari to start which tasted unbelievable and extremely fresh. The spicy oil is unreal and enhances the flavor of everything, Will definitely be coming back! I can't believe I haven't discovered this place sooner! The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, a true Italian delight! The brick walls and wooden furniture really adds a relaxed and intimate ambiance! YES. YES. YES. I was just beginning to think that Little Italy had lost its true Italian touch. Until I visited Piacere. When you first arrive, you noticed the direct exterior seems a bit off amongst the other places. Turn your head to look in and the brick oven fire lights up the interior and draws you in. Our entourage split lunch consisting of Polpo and Patate, Gnocchi Pomodoro e Basilico o con Pesto, and Capricciosa Pizza. Everything was on point... the service was friendly and attentive. I am not a fan of octopus, despite being born and raised in Florida, but the Polpo appetizer was great - the octopus meat was super chewy and masqued by the olive oil. We struggled to finish the gnocchi because we were full so early in. If you're looking for someplace fancy, this is not it. Not to say that this is some run-down restaurant. Absolutely not. It has, as a previous comment mentioned, a "rustic" feel. Furniture is wood, there's a brick oven. Come in with your jeans, leather jacket, boots, and dig in. read more

Went here on my recent east coast visit and they definitely had one of the best pizzas I had in NY. I went at around 11pm on a Thursday night and this place was empty except for a table of girls just having some wine. VERY dimly lit so I had a hard time reading the menu. All the dishes are listed in Italian with English descriptions (thank god!). We settled on a spicy prosciutto pizza and the scallop with mushroom appetizer. The scallops came first and they were TINY. The mushrooms were very undercooked, almost raw. The scallops were perfectly cooked but really sandy. I couldn't bite down all the way when I chewed them cos I could hear the crunch crunch of sand gritting in my teeth. Pizza was VERY GOOD though. That, I would come back for. Tried this place with my wife and adult children this past Sunday, because the restaurant I really wanted to go to had a two hour wait and all of us were very hungry. My initial thought was to share a couple of pizzas, have some beer or wine, and talk and catch up while we waited for the other restaurant to text me that our table was ready. Well, as they say "the best laid plans..." I'm giving this place two stars, one for the pizza and the other for the service. Usually when I write a review, I assign stars as follows: 1 for food, 1 for service, 1 for ambiance and 1 for value. A fifth star would be if the restaurant was truly outstanding in one or more categories. So, as you can probably tell by now, the ambiance and the value just wasn't there. As for the food, if Yelp allowed half star ratings, then a half star for the pizza, which was very good, would have been all they would have got... because the rest of the food we ordered was awful. (Oh, did I forget to mention that since we hadn't heard back from the other restaurant right after we finished our pizza, beer and wine, the family out voted me about waiting and just wanted to stay at Piacere for the rest of dinner?) So, I thought to myself "Well, the pizza was really good, why not stay for dinner?" Turned out to be a very bad decision. Between the five of us, we had two orders of the grilled calamari with arugula and fennel; two orders of the paparadella special with a wild boar ragu; spaghetti with wild mushrooms and truffle; and an appetizer special of baked calamari in tomato sauce with peas. I did have at least a taste of everything, so I can say first hand that all of the above were very bland and tasteless, and way overpriced for the size of the portions. And it's really too bad, because Piacere could be a really great place, having a wood burning oven and very well made fresh pasta and a great pizza dough. All they really need is a much better Italian red sauce gravy. (My bet is that they use the same bland tomato sauce in their dishes as they use on their pizza. Any great Italian restaurant knows bland is good for pizza, but you need that "old family Italian gravy" recipe for everything else.) Moral of the story for me is... next time I go into an Italian restaurant that has a nice wood burning oven for pizza and beer, and the ambiance is just that of a pizza place, don't bother eating anything else there, you'll probably be disappointed. read more

Fantastico! This place is owned by authentic Italians. Pizza oven is WOOD burning, not gas. The Moretti Rosso is draft beer that is smooth and deliciouso!! Right on the outskirts of mulberry street but the food is great and authentic. The pizza phenomenal! The fresh pappardelle is out of this world. My family and I ate here last Saturday (4/19/2014). We were visiting NYC for spring break and were making it a point to have Italian and/or pizza once a day during our 8 days in the City. Saturday was our last full day and I found Piacere on Yelp. With such a high rating, I was very excited to try it. In the end it was the worst food of the 8 days. I have to say first that I have not left many reviews on Yelp because I feel bad leaving a bad review (although I am happy when others do if it is valid and relates to the food and not something like the paint color). I also figure that if I only rate restaurants that I feel are 4 or 5 stars then that doesn't seem very credible either. So, here I go - my first 1 star review: This place was horrible! I ordered a pizza with mushrooms and spicy salami. My pizza came out and my first thought was - I could eat two of these myself. (I am 5'5" 120lb- I am not a large girl) The sauce and toppings only covered 2/3 of the crust. The sauce literally tasted like plain, canned tomato sauce. The salami was not spicy at all. The whole thing was bland. That explains why they put the spicy olive oil on the table. My husband ordered a salad and a pizza. The salad was excellent. There were four of us and not one was impressed with the pizza. Moving on - once the pizzas were brought out - we were never attended to again. I drank my water, my son's water, and half of my husband's water. We had to flag someone down for out check. When the check came, they had included a 20% tip!! Not only that, the tip was calculated on top of the taxed amount. (Tip should only ever be calculated on the actual food amount) There are several things wrong here: 1) What restaurant in America includes a tip on a tab for 4 people? 2) When a tip is included for larger parties, it is generally 18%, even in the finest restaurants. 3) Tip is never calculated on the tax 4) when you collect a tip, it is for a service that you provide. Piacere did not provide any service beyond delivering to our table what we ordered. 5) Next they lied and stated that ALL restaurants add tip to the bill My husband was angry afterwards that he left any tip at all, yet after all of that he still left 11%. We generally leave 20%. This restaurant deserved nothing. Why is it they feel the need to add the tip without your permission? If they provided good service they would not have to do this would they? By the way, I believe our "server" was also the owner. He was rude. read more

Came to try their pizza on a Friday late at night, a few moments right before their closing. Trusting the 4.5 star review on yelp, I was really looking forward to enjoying a delicious slice of pizza, but I have never been more disappointed in my life! My friends and I ordered a pie of their Bufalina pizza and added some spicy salami on top, but the pizza was mediocre at best. The tomato sauce was watery so it did not pair well with the crust, making it very soggy overall and bland tasting. Maybe it's because we walked in 5 minutes till closing so they rushed to make our order, but it still should not have been that bad. PLUS, since I have had a couple drinks by then, anything should've tasted good. But even then it was extremely disappointing. The servers there were also extremely rude, rushing us out. I might be interested in giving this place another chance solely based on the 4.5 star rating, but probably not anytime soon. read more

I came here for a birthday dinner on a Friday at 7:30pm with 7 people, and was not at all disappointed. This place isn't large, but it has long tables and isn't expensive (about $25 each), so it's great for groups. I would recommend a reservation because it gets very crowded. They will not let you sit until the whole party is there. They set the scene with some jazz-like music playing and a big stone oven in the back to cook the pizza. The kitchen is open in the back of the restaurant, so you can see them making food. I would highly recommend the taglierini pasta with porcini mushrooms and truffles. It could not have been better. Taglierini is similar to spaghetti, but thinner and honestly better. While I didn't eat the pizzas, they looked very good - thin crust, so one person can eat a whole pizza. They also have this delicious mildly spicy olive oil that they will tell you to put on every type of food you have. For birthdays, they will play the "happy birthday song" over the speakers in the restaurant and bring you a dessert with a candle in it. There were 3 birthdays just in the time we were there, so seems pretty popular for them. We got the tiramisu dessert, which was delicious...just melts in your mouth so well. read more

Nice little Italian restaurant that are all "homemade". I love the atmosphere here because it's casual and it doesn't feel like I am going to get rushed out. Good for some large parties birthday dinner. Starting of with their bread. Their olive bread and some other bread (I think is sourdough) is thick and flavorful! I don't even need olive with that. Just wished that is a little warmer. My friend and I started of with the pear and arugula salad. The arugula is fresher and it was perfectly mixed with thin sliced pear and cheese. Enjoyed it with some cracked pepper! We both shared the stuffed pizza with prosciutto and the pappardelle with boar and mushroom pasta. The stuffed pizza tastes like panini to me instead of pizza but it tasted really good. I guess I expected pizza to be a lot cheesier but I still enjoyed it a lot.cPasta was delicious bUt wasn't my favorite. I guess they are more famous with their pizza, it's thin sliced pizza and oh I love the crust! They ran out of the chocolate soufflé dessert! :( the final piece was sold to the couple next to our table!! I can only smell it!! Boo!! Tip: 3 people can easily share 2 pizzas! It's huge!! The hubby's friend from Italy recommended Piacere. We checked it out for Saturday brunch and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Great space, nice decor... Very rustic and comfortable. We noticed that the displays including olive oil were made by the restaurant. Cool. We ordered the the salsiccia e funghi and scamorza speck. The crust was thin, not burnt and chewy ends. The hub said his was too crispy but we both thought it was great pizza dough. The tomato sauce was a bit flat. Good toppings on both pizzas but not a lot of it.
