I had been meaning to try Piadina for quite some time now so when the Irvine Company had a BOGO coupon for it, I took advantage. They're an Italian flatbread sandwich joint and they have several to choose from (all about $8-9), but you can also customize your own as well. I love avocado and pesto so I ordered the California ($8.75), which was delicious. It also came with chicken, tomato, arugula, and mozzarella - the perfect combo if you ask me. I also tried the Milano ($8.75), but I wasn't a fan. Not sure if it was the almonds or the cheese they used, but it just wasn't the flavor I was looking for. We love it here! We constantly come here to get our fix. It is easy to find, next to Mizu in the corner. Parking is usually pretty easy since there's constantly someone leaving the area. Our favorites are the #9 and #10. The bread is crisp and light and the filling/insides are tasty. The prosciutto and turkey add great flavor and isnt overwhelming to the sandwich. We also tried one of their specials, #13 (Alpi), which is smoked prosciutto. Delicious! Only problem for me is that it isnt as filling as the #10. They also have a craft soda machine with some pretty cool flavors (Snozzberry, Shirley Temple, etc). The staff is always friendly and they have a cool rewards program. Visited Piadina for the first time last night with my bf. The restaurant was pretty empty which alarmed us at first but then we figured it was more of a lunch spot than dinner. It is set up like a Pieology, Chipotle, Subway, etc. except you order and pay first then sit and wait for your piadina (italian flatbread sandwich) to finish cooking. I got the California Piadina and my bf got the Francese. I really enjoyed what I ordered! My Italian style pressed sandwich (shredded chicken and prosciutto di Parma) tasted fresh but lacked that robust, herby Italian taste I expected based on the background info I read on Yelp about the connection to Italy, etc. I guess I expected more of the favorful, casual cuisine I've experienced in Italy. Adding sundried tomatoes, a dash of oregano and sprinkling of balsamic (which was on the table; I added it myself) would've added some pizzazz and authenticity. The bag of dill pickle-flavored poato chips is a nice addition. Not much else but a few salads are offered as sides. The craft sodas were different from the usual, and hubs and I like different. However, I found the "snozzleberry" too sweet, so I added water to cut it a bit. Hubs thought the ginger beer was strange--it made him cough (he usually goes for this flavor when offered) and the Shirley Temple was also too sweet, so he chose the cola instead and said the lemon lime was also nice. For me, an authentic Italian soda would've been perfect. Espresso by Illy poured over a thicker-than-typical hazelnut gelato ended my meal, which came out to just under $33 for the two of us. I will be honest, my sandwich tasted pretty good, not enough meat though. However, the lady working the counter left a terrible taste in mine and my gf's mouth. She was very rude to say the least. She kept yelling at me how it's their own sauce and it costs a lot to make. She poured a bit more for me, but her yelling already ruined mine and my gf's appetites. We were very turned off by her attitude. I will admit the hot sauce was pretty spicy and we didn't get to finish it, but she could have been much nicer about it. She didn't have to yell at me, she could have said something like "we give a little because it's really spicy and you won't be able to finish it" instead of yelling at me like she's giving out free shit. I definitely will not be back to this location and probably no other locations either because their food is very expensive and they still charge for hot sauce. I am really not a sandwich person at all and was really, really impressed by the piadinas here such that if it were local to me in NorCal, I would easily have it at least twice a week. No joke. The piadinas are made fresh to order and the bread is similar to roti/naan. It's flavorful and makes the perfect flatbread type of sandwich. The ingredients themselves are well balanced in proportion and flavor to the bread and the sandwich is very filling but not heavy. After having my pesto chicken piadina, I immediately went to check their website for other locations and was dismayed that they only have two. The restaurant is very casual (order at the register), large, and very clean. It is family friendly with spacious room between the tables (to accommodate strollers) and has highchairs and a changing table in the bathroom. It's also the only good place in the Tustin Marketplace (filled with mediocre chain food/drink establishments). PLEASE please please open one in the South Bay Area!! This place is mostly sandwiches with an Italian twist. They also have great options between soda and coffee. I didn't try any so I won't come in about them. I believe I tried number eight California something since the girl at the front said that she would recommend it if the president was ordering. So I ordered the presidential number eight and was very glad I picked it. As you can see from my photos this was a big sandwich but in reality it was actually very late and did not make me feel bloated or full afterward. Second visit to a Piadina (last time was in cypress) and same bad experience. They were out of many ingredients for a Salad. Then I watched the employee count each item as it went into the salad resulting in very meager toppings. And he could not have moved slower.
