Very affordable prices, but the quality did not meet my expectations. I was craving a chicken Parmesan sandwich and ordered from here. I was expecting a fried cutlet chicken patty, but got sliced grilled chicken (even the menu on the website says it will be lightly breaded chicken breast). I also ordered a cannoli and it was unusual- not sweet. Overall, my colleagues have suggested that I try a cold sandwich from here instead. read more

Yummy Chicago sandwiches! My parents are staying nearby and we decided to swing by and try the fresh made sandwiches. My dad and husband went in to order and said the staff working was friendly. I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich and I wish I went with something else. The bread was amazing, but the the chicken was just regular sliced chicken breast with marinara sauce and sliced cheese on top. I was expecting more of the traditional breaded, thin chicken (like what you think of when you think of chicken parm) so I was a little disappointed. If it was just based on my sandwich, I would give this a three star experience, but luckily I got to try many others, and they were five stars!! Next time, I think I'd go with the Cielo Panini. It's genoa salami, Italian copa, grilled zucchini, roasted red peppers with Jarlsberg cheese spread of tapenade and drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I was in the area and searched for a place for a sandwich and this place came up and the reviews looked good. I ordered a 6" sandwich and it was at least 10" long and delicious. Fresh baguette type bread. Reasonable price. I just wish they had some seating so I could have eaten it there. I would describe it as an old school Italian deli. Would definitely recommend it. The Italian Sandwich is to die for here! We've ordered from here several times throughout the years and PP never disappoints! My favorite move is to order a few sandwiches from here and bring them to tailgates. I've done this several times especially for Sox games and it's always a hit. I love the reaction from people when I get asked "Where is this from"? Their prices is reasonable and also don't sleep on their Chicken Parm or Eggplant Parm sandwiches! First time In Chicago and first timer here. I ordered a chicken parm on a roll. To be honest had to the worst chicken parm or even sandwich in general. Premade sauce. Microwaved chicken. And the sandwich was probably microwaved aswell I could tel by how hot the bread was. I also tried the broccoli cheddar soup and the chicken noodle. Both were dog shit. Worst soup I have ever had. My party ordered a chicken pesto and the sandwich was a simple one and that was hardly mid. Staff wasn't too friendly not talkative. The deli window has a water leak from the condensation and the water was dripping in a cup splashing on the cured meats. If I ever go back to Chicago I will not be stopping here. Food sucks and it was quite expensive.and if you are wanting to sit down and enjoy your lunch or whatever it may be. That will not be happening it's grab and go. Italian boy staple: I had the 12 inch Napolitano Sandwich - Soppressa ta, calaprese salami and prosciutto cotto with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. Hit the spot. I also had the Mini Black & White Cookies from New York. Where else? OG - Highly Recommended. The key to eating a black and white cookie is that you wanna get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate. And yet still somehow racial harmony eludes us. If people would only look to the cookie, all our problems would be solved. My father-in-law, Daddy-O, passed away on Xmas Day. After his burial, I wanted to have people over for a light lunch. Daddy-O loved this place and it seemed a fitting thing to order the sandwiches he loved. We had scheduled a military burial for Daddy-O at 11:15 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, so I needed the sandwiches before we head out to the cemetery. I had called about four days in advance to see if they could make the order for me for a pick up at 9:30 a.m. that day as I needed to set up a lunch for a repass. The guy that answered the phone wasn't sure that the order could be made due to the time request, but would get back to me. About 15 mins later, the owner Mike calls me back. He first expressed his condolences on my loss and then proceeded to tell me that he would come in early to do the sandwiches for the 9:30 a.m. pick-up. When I got there, everything was ready and Mike helped me out to the car and again expressed his condolences. The sandwiches were great and everyone loved them. The sandwiches are about 12 inches in size, so for creating party trays, you can ask for them to be cut into fours. I particularly like The New Yorker with peppered pastrami. Their Dolce di Parma is also a solid choice (prosciutto, pesto, sundried tomato and basil) as well as the Napolitano (soppressata, calaprese salami and prosciutto cotto with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar or tapenade). And I got about four other types for variety, all equally good. There wasn't much left. The store itself is small, but packed with a lot of speciality items like jams, nuts, cookies, meats, sodas, etc., imported items that you are not likely to find in a Jewel or Mariano's. They also have homemade soups, sauces and pastas that are really good. Prices are not bad...the most expensive sandwich is The Big Easy (turkey, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, artichokes and pesto). This was one of the sandwiches I ordered and it was very good. But I am bias as it had lots of things I love all in one place. They also have wraps that are pretty tasty. I especially love South of the Border (oven roasted turkey, bacon, avocado, spicy Chihuahua cheese, red onion, homemade salsa, lettuce and tomato) and the Maui Wowi (spicy shrimp, crumbled goat cheese, green olives, wasabi dressing and lettuce and tomato). If you are a lover of subs and all things Italian, this is your place. FYI, there is 15 min parking on Olive Street so you can run in and out. Remember to put your flashers on. read more

One of my favorite sandwiches in all of Chicago. I have worked as valet in front of many damn popular restaurants, and this is one of my go to Chicago spots... I think the owner or manger at the time I lived in the neighborhood was named Michael maybe? I still remember the first convo tho cos he asked me what I wanted and I said it was my first time... he asked where I normally went and when I told him Bari, he was like, "Fuck Bari and their cracker stale day old bread...we will make you a real sandwich on fresh bread." Limited selections and overpriced salamis. Genoa are not authentic Italian I was surprised when I bought it I found out it was Factory, Eckrich, which you can get in any store in Chicago ! Nasty & I had to bring it back to a curt and somber clerk who rarely said a word and never apologized ! The small soups are delicious flavors in the fridge, but are very expensive ! Overall I would never recommend this mediocre Italian joint when I want authentic Italian. For authentic Italian deli and goods I go to Bari on Grand Avenue, or the Sicilian neighborhood on Harlem if I have the time to drive there. A quaint little shop with a deli and groceries serving interests in Italian goods & subs. They sell pastas, sauces, oils, vinegars, refrigerated or dry goods, meats, cheeses, homemade giardiniera, snacks and have a full service deli counter which makes sandwiches. A few notable features; is that they offer (some) goods that are locally made and have quite a selection of non-gmo groceries. Which is not often a highlight offered by smaller grocer shops or convenience stores. So far my visits have been mainly for subs, hot sandwiches and wraps. I'm a big fan of submarine sandwiches and paninis in general. At PP's deli counter your money goes a far distance. Most sandwiches are priced at around $7 dollars. You can get wraps as big as a large burrito, they are freakin' enormous. A 6" or footlong sub sandwich or a hot panini. Sandwiches are made to order, depending on the ask. In the realm of an affordable lunch, this is a great buy. However, I wouldn't plug them in the category of craft or premium. It's a plain, suitable, affordable meal. I've mentioned already how big the wraps can be, which are made with a grilled tortilla. However, they fill it up with so much sauce or mayo that it bleeds through the wrap causing everything to become soggy. I've made the mistake of ordering wraps a couple times and am left to wonder, what's the point of grilling the wrap if it ends up soggy? I have to remember to stop ordering them. I end up eating half and giving or throwing away the other portion. Soggy wraps are "non buono." Had I written this review years ago, I may have rated them five stars and never looked back. Today, is a different day. It's good, convenient and affordable eats. However, I don't feel like as though they're churning out the best sandwiches they can create. They're just, sandwiches. Another thing, I was saddened to learn that their giardiniera is produced with soybean oil instead of olive oil. Being that they sell non-gmo goods, I hoped they would follow suit and use non-gmo olive oil or alternative for their giar.. (Much of the soybean oil used in production/cooking is usually GMO and not a heart healthy alternative.) Oh well. It's a condiment I enjoyed but don't need to have there. Since this is both a grocer and deli shop it makes rating difficult. I would've left four stars after rounding out but as I'm reading other reviews, I'm seeing one that mentions the owner wearing a regrettably racist t-shirt which was worn after the Eric Garner death. I'm a proponent of FOS, but wearing such a t-shirt to your place of business says much about you and what you're representing to the public. It's regrettable if the wearer has regret, which I don't think the owner has. He claims not to know the meaning of the t-shirt he wore. Hmm. Then why wear it? Kudos for the offering of Non-gmo goods & offering locally produced products. You've got a nice looking store. However, I know what that t-shirt represents. Bigotry and racism. The shop owner seems to dislike his customers. Yesterday, I tried to pay for a sandwich I had ordered and he told me off. I still don't quite understand why, but I walked out to him taunting me. I suppose that I caught a stray emotional bullet from a man with an anger problem. I hope that he feels better soon, but unleashing anger on paying customers seems to be a poor business strategy. (Unless you're going for a Weiner Circle vibe.) I'll never go back. Why would I give money to a man who treats me like crap? George C. devoured his sandwich. His craving was fully satisfied. I had the mushroom brie soup and the tomato basil soup. Both were delicious! However, the mushroom brie was, like, divine. Incredibly flavorful and impressive. The menu also has lots of other sandwiches. Several of the paninis sounded really good. I'll have to give one of those a go for my next order. I would rate subs 4.5 but customer service 1. Seems to always be an issue. Placed an order online fir pick-up. Had to wait 45 mins for 3 subs. Initially it was 15 mins, but had to wait 45 mins while they took handled every walk-in order. I lived in Andersonville for four years and subsisted on this place! I swear to god this is THE place for incredible food. I gave them a 2nd chance after my last delivery was so late it cost me a half hour of online work with a student, about $35. No call, no text, no apology. Today the deliver was over an hour later than promised: I order lunch before noon, it arrived after 2 PM. It no longer matters that the food is good - it is. But today's order, so late with no call, or text or email, was incorrect. We ordered Carrot Orange Lemon juice, and received a banana yogurt drink. When we called to ask where the food was, the phone rang & rang with no answer - just a computer voice indicating their voicemail box is full. If this is how they treat a new, lucrative customer, I'm sure it's full of complaints. I had given up & was playing with my son when the delivery finally came, and had to cut that short to many tears & screams. Just like last time, this late delivery proved a big disruption to our lives. I dare these men to reply and explain what happened. They'll never have our business again, but I'd like to know, just kind of academically. read more
