I'm really happy I got a chance to visit Pickle Banh Mi! This place makes the best banh mi i've had in a long time and I grew up eating Banh Mi lol. We got their roast pork banh mi which was very delicious. It was savory and tender. Perfectly made. Lots of garnish as well. We also got their banh mi thit nuong which, as a classic banh mi option, would be something I'd definitely get again here as well. To top it off, we got their bo kho which is one of my childhood favorites. We came in with the plan on eating half of all the sandwiches and taking the rest home, but everything was so good that we ate everything at the restaurant lol. Service was very fast. Very professional. Presentation of the food was top tier (something you typically don't see at a banh mi establishment). Ambiance was a little noisy and busy. Came here bc I was craving banh mi and I did a quick chat gpt search to the top rated place and this popped up! So glad I came here! Drove from Gardena to pickup two sandwiches and I am satisfied! Quality wasn't matching what I expected from Pickle Banh Mi, especially since the Garden Grove location already had my trust. Lee's is a staple and I respect it, but that bread always fights back. They walked so Pickle could run. Today I got the egg and spam sandwich. Bomb. Bánh mì is already a breakfast staple, but egg and spam makes it stop pretending. Crisp bread, soft scramble, salty spam, Vietnamese mayo, pickled veggies and a splash of Maggi to seal the deal. For a second, being awake felt like a good decision. Most of their bánh mì come with the usual fresh stuff, and it matters: cool cucumber crunch, herby pop from cilantro, jalapeño with a sharp peppery bite and sweet-tangy pickled crunch. No giant chunks falling out and trying to become a side salad. I've also had their combination, grilled pork and roasted pork belly sandwiches plenty of times. The combination hits that classic Viet deli profile: cold cuts, savory pork roll, pâté-style richness, mayo, fresh crunch and crisp bread. Simple formula, the OG. The grilled pork is my personal favorite bánh mì here because it keeps things simple. Light smoke. Savory, slightly sweet pork. Rich mayo. Fresh crunch. No lemongrass yelling over the bite. Not the flashiest sandwich, just the one I keep coming back to. I look at the menu. I act thoughtful. I add grilled pork anyway. The roasted pork belly is the heavier hitter. Silky fat, tender meat and little crackles of skin show up as you chew. Special sauce and mayo make the bite glossy and rich, while the pickled cabbage and carrot slaw cuts through with crunch and brightness. One bite and yeah, it makes sense. Popular for a reason. Spring rolls are solid. Egg rolls are good too, especially fresh out the fryer. I grabbed 20 this morning and asked for them freshly fried. Took about 15 minutes, worth it. They're the simpler pork-and-carrot style, not the pork-and-shrimp version I usually think of for that classic Vietnamese egg roll bite, but fresh out the fryer, they still hit crisp and delicious. Two were sacrificed in the car for quality control. Iced coffee is strong and delicious. Not café vibes coffee. This is "why am I matching my cat's zoomies" coffee. Tiny space. Few tables. Warm baguette smell in the air. Front workers always moving. Orders getting packed. Pans clanking in the back. Aunties barking orders in Vietnamese like every sandwich is already late. Customers tucked inside with their bánh mì. Everyone just locked in with bread. Outside, it's still a busy strip mall, so lock up, roll up and get your Vietnamese food fix. Was looking for a quick bite before heading out for an evening out on our boat in the harbor and found this gem. My husband and I were craving for a good banh mi in the area and found this place searching through Yelp. I did make a phone order at 4pm as this establishment closes at 5pm on a Friday. I try to always make a stop here when I'm in Long Beach. Loads of places offer banh mi but finding one that's actually good is another thing. I've alway had a good experience here and the sandwich and food has alway been great. It's not a big shop but they do have a little dining area. I feel like it tends to be more of a take out place. Fresh made sandwiches right after you order. Besides sandwiches, they have pre made meals on the counter made throughout the day as well as noddle dishes, rice and meat. Love the food here, been to the one in Fountain Valley in Orange County and I fell in love. They have a drive thru there too. Here in Long Beach it's a walk in ambiance spot. Anywho, I love the Grilled Pork Bánh Mì (Thịt Nướng) sandwich. It's super popular, savory and slightly sweet marinated pork. It's a casual restaurant, with a high turnover so you order at the cash register and wait for them to call out your number. Bus your table yourself. The banh mi is huge! It had all the flavors you look for in a typical banh mi. I wish I tasted the pork belly a little more, but overall the sandwich was great! What a fantastic sandwich! This thing is huge and it's fairly priced. I get why they added "pickle" in their name because they're very generous with it- I love the crunch with every bite. The sauce was surprisingly sweeter than I expected, but, all the flavors had a wonderful balance. I also appreciate that I can bite into the bread without it crumbling all over my shirt. This usually indicates that the bread is good quality and/or it wasn't overly toasted. This rating is solely on the sandwich. I didn't dine-in because it was too hot inside. I've eaten here before and was in the area so I called in an order of their thit kho (braised pork). I've gotten this and their banh mi in the past and the thit kho was good so I figured it was a safe option. I think they use fake butter in their banh mi and I'm not a fan of that flavor profile so I didn't care for their banh mi. Ordering over the phone was friendly and quick and pick up was a bit slow but no complaints there. When I got back to the hotel and started eating it, I found a piece of plastic wrap in it so that was very bad. If you're like me, the bread in a sandwich can make or break the experience. I love the style of baguette they freshly make. The lomo saltado banh mi has a generous amount of filet mignon beef; however, the fries and raw bell pepper and the absence of the key aji pepper sauce makes the sandwich less successful in filling my cravings. Make no mistake. I finished my sandwich and it was good. Overall, I do think their banh mi sandwiches are great because of their house made, flaky breads, because they're packed with delicious meat, and they're generously loaded with veggies and flavor.
