This was a great random find! There was a French sandwich shop near my house (Le Petite Baguette) that closed years ago and this delightful shop fills the void! Whimsical decor and a friendly owner makes this a very welcoming place. Almost every customer was a regular. I had the Ficelle which was prosciutto, French butter, French Brie cheese, and marmalade. Simple, sweet, and salty. Was the perfect sandwich. I took home a Croque Monsieur for my wife which was ham, Gruyere, on grilled sourdough. Again, very simple but thanks to the high quality ingredients it was excellent. I sampled a few bites and loved it. It's street parking but there was plenty of space open. Inside had a few tables. What a GOLD MINE! Just walking into this place is fun. Your eyes can't just focus on one single decoration. There is a fun amount of quirky items to see and read. I had this sandwich that was in a Chewy Pretzel Roll with some kind or marmalade, ham and cheese. It was quite tasty that I wanted a second! The turkey Waldorf was good, but I wish it didn't come in a croissant -it might do well on squaw, but still yummy! The 'CROQUE MONSIEUR which is a European Cured Thin Sliced Ham With Gruyere Cheese Melted On Golden Sourdough Toast. That you have to share because it's so big and so worth it! Check-in: March 2026 - it's a whallopping yes all over again! The other day we were cruising on our bikes with destination Long Beach, Art Museum and we thought to ourselves we're hungry - we need to eat. We found our way to this special spot once again. I ordered the California vegetarian and my wife ordered the Capretzel. Both sandwiches were just super tasty healthy with the best dressing on them. Claudette is her usual charming self, sharing her personal experiences and friendly vibes. She's extremely experienced in both the kitchen and nature. I suggest engaging her in conversation. We ate our sandwiches on site because it's just such a charming environment. After seeing the ad in the 908 magazine we decided to try sandwiches at La Ċroque. We were interested in trying to in particular so we bought a hot pastrami and a Ficelle. The pastrami is excellent and why we were excited about the Filelle It was a slight disappointment. The baguette did not seem fresh and while the homemade marmalade was excellent it seemed a bit light on the brie. I never ever expected to give a sandwich shop a 5 star review - but I have never ever had a sandwich like the pastrami sandwich I had today. The sandwich alone is 5/5 stars. The woman behind the counter was very welcoming, she gives off great vibes. She was amazing and prepped my sandwich in the back. When she came out, the bag was piping hot! I was the only person when I got there, so I was in and out of the shop in less than 10 minutes. It's street parking but honestly it was easier than I thought to find parking. Now onto the sandwich. I am still in awe at how much good stuff was tucked between those two delicious slices of bread. Just an absolute abundance of pastrami! Very generous helpings of sauerkraut as well. The sauce was the perfect complement. Everything about it was next level delicious. To be honest, I don't order many sandwiches since I always feel like I can make good sandwiches at home. They have some French style prepared sandwiches all ready to go (baguette, cheese, prosciutto) and a nice looking pastry case. You can also order sandwiches from the kitchen. Such a cute little place! If you're looking for a light lunch this is the perfect place to go. The owner was very nice and made our food very quickly, there's even little tables inside to eat at. I got the French Style Ficelle and it was very good, but I will say I was wishing I got the Pastrami Sandwich after I tried some of my boyfriends. I was influenced to come here by a certain Long Beach resident whose platform gives the recognition due to our city's unique culture of small businesses. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambience- so many people were regulars. I could hear "do you want your usual" paired with a wink and a cheeky smile to many patrons. This Valentine's I went to visit my mom in Brea and brought up the salmon bagel and the pastrami on rye with two ice teas. 10/10. This is one of Long Beach's true hidden gems--genuinely tucked between residences in a very low-profile building, so keep your map on or you'll miss it. An old screen door opens onto a couple of small tables and a counter case displaying some of their offerings. It took a few minutes for someone to come to the counter, but it turned out to be a sweet-natured Australian woman juggling an armful of sandwiches for a waiting patron. Just know they may only have one person running the whole place at a time, so a little patience goes a long way. We ordered the Croque Monsieur and the Ficelle, both freshly made, generous, and absolutely delicious. The croque arrives as three half sandwiches--essentially one and a half sandwiches--and trust me, you'll eat the whole thing. While waiting, I noticed a very realistic-looking small snake on the floor beneath a refrigeration case. When I pointed it out, she laughed and explained it was fake--they have a sense of humor there. So don't panic. I tried the 'Croque Monsieur this visit and it was solid - like a ham and cheese toastie/grilled ham and cheese sandwich. There are also some pastries, sides, and snacks (like chocolate, popcorn, and chips) available for purchase. Limited seating indoors, but if the weather is good, why not take your sandwich and snacks over to a nearby park or beach? That's what I would do! read more

A Gem!! Ive had this on my saved list for a while and I wish I would have come sooner. The Bread, the flavors, ingredients all Grade A+++. These are French style sandwiches so don't expect Italian Deli style. They do have a a variety of styles but definitely not your typical deli. I tried the ficelle which is a prosciutto, brie and Butter sandwich on a crispy sweet baguette. This is a sweet and savory sandwich; and its flavor combinations are perfect. I also had the guava turnover (yum!) and the se salt cookie (not too sweet which makes it a perfect cookie for me). Loved it all so much came back the next day and tried the german pretzel sandwich which is ham cheese jam and butter on a pretzel baguette again perfect flavor pairings. These sandwiches are exquisite. Hours are limited. Space inside is small but they do have 2 or 3 little tables inside in case you want to eat there vs to go. Cant wait to go back. The meat was lean and the homemade dressing was delicious. The owner is a wonderful person and we truly enjoyed visiting with her. Soft opening! Apparently the owner and her late husband had a bakery, with the husband as a baker. From my friends who used to live in LB, they were a staple and very community based. As I walked in and when others came through, many greeted her with such familiarity. I absolutely love that. It's a very small shop, you're there to take it to go. Among the sandwiches in the bar there are delectable pastries and the menu touts hot sandwiches as well! The person at the front was delightfully kind and really bubbly. The owner was equally nice as well! I don't remember the names of the sandwiches I got but I got the one with Brie and prosciutto with some sweet marmalade on it. This combo isn't new but she put it on a very skinny baguette of cranberries and nuts which was amazing. 10/10 Alaskan? It's lox on a bagel. Can't go wrong. Bagel was a little stale but I think it was the end of the day and it was the soft opening. 8.5/10 Pretzel bread thing: don't let looks deceive you. This was the most flavorful. The goat cheese (I think) and the tomatoes? I don't know it was amazing even though it looked basic.
