I really enjoyed this restaurant! The hotel it's in is very nice looking, the restaurant is located upstairs and looks over the ocean. Right away, the hostess was really nice and accommodating (super important when bringing a one year old to a restaurant with you). Our server (Grace?) was super nice and helpful. They all made my birthday dinner wonderful. I had the Buddha bowl with chicken in it and I devoured it. My cocktail, some type of margarita, was delicious. Pickled Fish was the absolute best restaurant we went to during our (almost) weeklong stay in Long Beach. I had multiple dishes there and were all delicious! The mac and cheese is to die for. Made reservations for my birthday dinner on 3/24 @6pm. Traffic got backed up so I called ahead to let them know we were coming (a group of 5) and the host was beyond hospitable. The atmosphere is minimal which allows the view to take center stage, and it does, wow the sunset was spectacular. A bottle of bubbly started us off, the the bursts and beets, I suggest all the above. The cocktails were all very different and tastefully crafted. I got the salmon and my husband got the steak entree and we were left satisfied and our taste buds happy. Our friends got the wood fired pizza and mushrooms and said it was the best pizza around. Well, we should've listened. $50+ later and 2 gross meals...let us serve as a warning. Between the 2 of us we got: the chowder which was watery, had near raw potatoes, and no flavor; the sourdough bread which was cold and barely toasted; and the king salmon, also zero flavor and cold beans/calamari. My wife and I went a few days ago. We were disappointed to say the least. My wife got a risotto that was soupy and not flavorful at all. The replacement mushroom pizza was slightly better but soggy in the middle and had large pieces of garlic and few mushrooms. My tuna was tasty though and and the server was good and attentive. Was excited to show husband a place I found that I thought he would really enjoy (visited pre-Covid). Came back Sept 2022. The online menu states gf chowder, but waitress had never heard of that sadly. The fish and chips have oddly changed to one slab/filet of fried fish and was not nearly as good that way. We are used to dealing with changes in menu, etc post Covid so those are just a heads up in case people are going for those menu items... The disheartening part was the mandatory 18% gratuity stating it is split with staff and you can pay your waitress more (for a living wage). On top of that, we get the dessert menu and there is another request to give the staff money on top of the tip and the mandatory 18%. I'm all about tipping, so please just price your menu to pay your staff 'a livable wage' and 'buy them rounds' if you think they need them instead of wondering if our waitress is going to get the shaft unless we tip 30+% Beyond how management has worded or requested these messages in the menu, the waitress was kind, the host enthusiastic, the view lovely, and the unique cushions on the metal chairs appreciated. read more

We made reservations for 8pm (requesting an ocean window seat) and were instead seated directly next to the chaotic kitchen window beneath some extremely bright obnoxious lights. After 20 minutes with absolutely no one stopping by, we got up and found the host and asked to be moved. 20 more minutes pass so we decided to leave. We let the host know and we just got an insincere "sorry?" from them. I felt like our night was wasted! I know restaurants are stretched for staff, but a quick greeting or check in by any of the employees constantly walking by our table would have been appreciated! Ate 3 times during our stay at the hotel and really enjoyed each meal, view is outstanding and the staff really goes out of the way to make you feel taken care of and comfortable not a silver of pretentiousness in the air here at all. Dear Pickled Fish, upon sitting down it took about 5 minutes for our waitress to come and take our drink orders during a not busy whatsoever lunch hour. We did not even receive our menus upon sitting down. There is sign number 1 of it being a bad experience. I ordered the crab mac and cheese, my buddy ordered the crab spaghetti, and a margherita pizza. Took about 15 minutes for the meal to get to us. The waitress gave us our food but low and behold we did not even have silverware. The food sat with us for 3 minutes before we asked if we could have silerware and her response was a snooty "sure". Our meal was subpar the spaghetti was in a child size bowl 20 dollars, mac n cheese was 18 dollars and the pizza was 22. Our service was horrible and I want to blame the fact that they automatically add the tip to your order. Horrible service and food was subpar. We loved our appetizer of the dirty fries, and the four cheese pizza was super gooey and cheesy (the crust is on the thin side, which I love but my husband likes a thicker crust, FYI). Dessert was the Vanilla Pavlova - perfect way to end the dinner, not heavy at all. Oh, and our cocktails were stupendous! Was excited to try this restaurant out after checking out the online menu. It looks very industrial chic and it does have nice views. Of course COVID, so there's a sign on the elevator warning you that you need to call and make a reservation. Unfortunately, no one answers the phone. So we decided to just take our chances and see what was available. We waited for while at the desk, with another family of four behind us, before the hostess decided to greet us. Since we didn't have a reservation, and the family behind us didn't have one either, we were told we would be allowed to dine if we could promise to be done no later than 2:00 or 2:15 as there was someone else that had a reservation, and they were so, so busy. The place was empty but whatever! I told the hostess that we would do our best given that it wasn't really up to us - it was really more dependent on the service and the kitchen lol! So we were really off to a great start! The food is pretty pricy - $17 burgers, $20 Mac and cheese. Both of my sons got the Mac and cheese w/bacon. When it came out, there was no bacon! The waitress brought some in a cup out later. No apology, no nothing. My burger was just fine, adequate, except the bun, which was soggy and inedible. Unacceptable for a $17 burger. The fries were plentiful. No complaints regarding the hubby's rockfish and chips - he enjoyed every bite. No way to not tip less than the mandatory percentage that they add for "living wage" - but definitely did not feel like our waitress earned any extras. Noticed a few places in town that would've done better - Not recommended. The hostess' attitude at the door was exceptionally rude and off-putting and the food didn't compensate. read more

One thing that I love about being on the peninsula is to leave the world behind. To enter the Pickled Fish and be greeted by a "Black Lives Matter" sign on a big beautiful window is just weird. I didn't see any "Black Lives" on the premises. In fact, the place looked abnormally white. I wouldn't have noticed the lack of diversity if it wasn't for that sign. I come here for a meal with an outstanding view. I bring my out of town guests here. I don't come here for virtue signaling, political guilt or any other reason. My guest have diverse views and lifestyles. We don't need political signs to be kind and to see the value of others. read more

Very busy so we had an hour wait. The time passed quickly with such a beautiful view out every window! We decided on the savory mushroom appetizer & a salad to start. Such a good decision! The mushrooms were well seasoned & tasty. The greens in the salad were very fresh. What a delightful surprise to find a healthy portion of fresh cranberries buried under the lettuce & pecans! Whenever my husband and I visit Long Beach, we always stay at Adrift Hotel due to how close it is to the beach, they allow dogs in their rooms, AND Pickled Fish is in the building! Due to COVID-19, I strongly recommend making a reservation beforehand via Yelp. The restaurant will also very kindly text you as soon as your table is ready (sometimes you may get a text before your reservation time) since they want to prevent a crowd waiting in front of the restaurant (the waiting area is very small). When we last went to Long Beach recently during Labor Day weekend, we actually went to Pickled Fish several times, both for dinner and breakfast: Dinner: 1) Appetizer - Pickled Fish - Let me start off by saying I love pickled ANYTHING, so of course we had to order this App. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We should've ordered two of these. :) The pickled fish is served on something similar to a hash brown and then topped with pickled onions. De-li-cious. 2) Appetizer - Fried Oysters - The fried oysters were good, along with the bomb sauce it came with. There was a little too much breading for me but that's just my personal preference. 3) Entree - Crispy Pork Shoulder - My husband absolutely devoured his pork shoulder. The pork itself was so tender you can cut it with a fork! The charred eggplant that is part of the dish looks a little unappetizing due to the color, but it definitely tastes better than it looks! 4) Entree - Hand-cut Pappardelle - So. Good. I am a sucker for anything pasta so I had to order this. Some bites of it I had were far saltier than others (I believe it was due to the pork sugo) but overall, this dish was excellent. 5) Dessert - Warm Fudgy Brownie - What more can I say besides a warm brownie with a side of vanilla ice cream? Breakfast: 1) Drinks - We have tried the Mimosa (both Orange Juice and Fresh Grapefruit), Orphan Girl+Coffee, and the Hot Monkey Bloody Mary. All are excellent! I love everything spicy so the Hot Monkey (spicy vodka) drink was delightful. 2) Entree - Slow Roasted Pork Scramble - This dish was not only delicious but had a generous portion size as well. So much my husband struggled to finish it! Out of all the entrees, this was definitely my husband's favorite. 3) Entree - Dutch Baby - My husband has a sweet tooth so I was not surprised at all when he ordered this. It also came with a side of housemade sausage. The portion size of the actual dutch baby was a little small, so my husband was still hungry afterward. 4) Entree - Brady's Breakfast Sandwich - So good! I ordered this with the housemade sausage and my stomach was definitely fulfilled afterward. It comes with a side of salad but I regret not replacing this with fried potatoes. 5) Entree - Olympic Provisions Sweetheart Ham Benedict - I always order eggs benedicts when going to brunch so I of course had to order this. Delicious but there was a ton of hollandaise sauce, and a lot more than I'm used to. I love Pickled Fish and so glad we were able to still enjoy eating in at the restaurant despite COVID-19! I was so disappointed! My two teenagers got The crab Mac n cheese and my son said it tasted like water. So I tried it and it did!! It was like they just took the pasta off the water and put in the plate with it just still dripping with the pasta water put the cheese on top and put a little crab just to say it crab Mac n cheese. When I entered Pickled Fish, the place reminded me of a few restaurants in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood (ex: Quinn's). This place had the whole dim ambiance with wood and unfinished floor decor. Since I had dining credit, I figured I might as well order two more dishes. My dinner buddy and I had the following: truffle fries- hand-cut Oregon taters, white truffle oil, veronica's black truffle salt and truffle catsup veronica's Washington whiskey lacquered forest foraged wild mushrooms with bacon fat and candied garlic willapa bay steamer clams braised in fort george wheat beer and roasted garlic butter with vito's garlic bread smoky barnyard duck breast with toasted ancient grains, sundried cranberries, vines and lemonade pickled apple Overall, it was a satisfying dinner that didn't leave us stuffed. The clams and mushrooms were my two favorite dishes. The fries were fine but the truffle was hard to notice. The duck dish was great but Pickled Fish was pretty stingy with the duck. There were 4 thinly sliced pieces of duck over the grains and I didn't think the price matched the portion. In the end, our bill was a lot cheaper than expected since we did not realize we came during happy hour. If you plan to order several dishes, eat during happy hour! read more

The food was good here. The desserts were just terrible and the service lack luster. Our cocktails arrived with our clam chowder. Really? The wine arrived with our dessert. Not sure what's going on with them, but they should step up the drinks game. All of us liked our food. It was well prepared and tasty. The desserts however were another story. I will start this off by saying the reason that I gave it a one star is because the wait staff was excellent and if I could review them separately I would. The food however was not. Both my husband and I left with most of our meal that we did not eat because the AC was off in the room we were in, and they said it had somethingto do with covid which made no sense. We got home and both of us had stomach cramps and and threw the food away this morning. The taste was marginal at best and we were completely disappointed. I have mixed feelings about this place. The views and the atmosphere are wonderful. Our service was OK, the server forgot our drinks, we had to remind her after we were already done with our appetizers. Clam chowder is not great, watery and lacks flavor. Lobster mac & cheese, pickled beets and fish were delicious. Also, an 18% industry tip was added to our bill. I have not seen that before. It mentioned that 7% was going to our server, and the rest to the staff. That means that in order to tip our sever full 20% we had to add 13% more to the tip. In total we had paid 31% just in tips.
