We enjoyed having a unique snack after hiking at the Tonto Natural Bridge. The filling in the peach empanada was sweet, warm, and tasty, but the crust was thick rather than light and flaky. We took a Mountain Mamma savory empanada back to our air bnb. PIEbar provided reheating instructions so we were able to enjoy this savory option with a bottle of wine. Again, the crust was not fabulous, but the filling was well-seasoned and delicious. Counter workers were very friendly. You will find a little bit of heaven Just inside Strawberry on the Payson side of town. Look for the the chef on the roof with the curled mustache and wide open mouth! You will encounter wonderful aromas from the parking spaces that will pull you inside. Our party enjoyed chicken pot pie, red Chile beef pie, green Chile pork, Dutch apple pie, strawberry pie, and berry! Everything was to die for! I was only able to get a pic of the Dutch apple because no one could wait to dig in! Plenty of outdoor seating where you can relax, watch the world pass by and absolutely escape all the craziness. A must stop on Hwy 87 - even if you already ate! Phoned in from 600 miles away and the owner was helpful. Upon arrival, the staff was just as friendly and helpful as the owner. So the food I ordered: Pies-Banana Cream and Apple. Empanadas: Chicken Pot Pie, Breakfast, Beef and Red Chili, and the Chorizo and Bean. My family was pleasantly surprised that we arrived with hot empanadas for lunch. None were too spicy, all were full flavor, and each was unique from the other. I covered the Empanadas first because I could smell them from the highway! I purchased 17 Empanadas for 8 people; great finger food! So good, they were gone in minutes! Now the pies! The Banana Cream was bananas! Artistically creamed up, with a delicious crust! The Apple Pie had a crusted top and the Apple filling was spiced to perfection. When presented at the party, again, these pies were gone in minutes. Hence the reason I don't have any photos of the food! This place is amazing! We went back 3 times during a three day stay in Pine! The Green Chilie Pork and the Strawberry Empanadas are to DIE FOR! Such a treat to have a homemade empanada from the PieBar. We chose chicken pot pie, mountain man, and mountain mamma--so good! The chipotle lime dipping sauce was our favorite. We shared a pineapple (creamy with chunks of pineapple,) strawberry and cream and brought home a cherry and a lemon. You would not expect to find such a great stop in such an out-of-the-way place. The empanadas are fantastic! As a border girl, I've been exposed to the traditional Mexican empanada most of my life so I know what they should be and these are definitely it. The crust is nicely crisp and flaky and the fillings are generous as well as unexpected. You have to try The Mountain Baby if you love mac n cheese - sounds not right but is oh so yummy. The Quiche Lorraine for breakfast is fabulous, the Loaded Baked Potato and Peach Empanadas are wonderful. And the Berry Blossoms are to die for. Love them! They were trying a new flavor when I was there and let us "test" it. So good! It was pulled pork and if they make it a regular menu item I would definitely come back for it all the way from Houston, TX. I picked up a whole pile of empanadas to bring back with me and do not regret it - they reheat beautifully if you put them in the oven. The service was quick and super friendly. All of the girls were chatty, helpful and professional. The outdoor eating area provided a beautiful, peaceful setting to enjoy the meal and the bathrooms were super clean. Holy heck! This place is so freaking cute! So many different and great flavors. I wish I could try them all! I had the pork and pot pie and my friends got some dessert ones that they said were very good, but I would stake my life on the chili pork and pot pie! It was Easter Sunday so I was surprised anything was open, the lady with the black bunny ears told my kids there were probably still eggs out in the seating area, fun. I cannot recommend Pie Bar ENOUGH! A friend and I drove from Phoenix to Strawberry just get these Savory and Sweet miniature pies (I.e. empanadas). I has the Mountain Man and Chicken Pot Pie empanadas and they were BEYOND DELICIOUS! The best pie crust I have ever tasted. The service was excellent - everyone working there was very helpful and knowledgeable about each of the flavors. The ambiance was cute, a brightly colored building that had an immaculately clean bathroom. Do yourself a favor and make the trip to try this place! Very, very good savory empanadas. Wide selection of hot and ready hand pies. Nice people. Very fast to get in and out, faster than most drive thru windows. Great road trip stop. Nice outdoor seating area. Highly recommended. 2 of the empanadas made a fine meal, but they were so good I got a 3rd and was stuffed. Pretty good beer selection. Only neg was paying $6 (!) for a can of coffee. Will most definitely be back for the food, but won't buy that drink again. If you're hungry while headed north through Payson, skip the fast food chains there. Best place in town. I go every time I am in Pine, which is a lot. . Breakfast empanadas are one of my favorites.

Very good. Many are spicy though, so if you don't like spicy keep that in mind. Definitely recommend.
