Super cute environment and good vibes, we went in the morning around 9 am August 2026 perfect weather to sit outside. we tried five empanadas I think Philly cheesecake is my favorite. We also tried all the sauces and they were all bomb. Definitely would recommend and worth the hype. Service was also great, one cute girl working at the front desk super helpful. And saw the rest of the guys making everything fresh and handmade. Bathrooms were clean, we did come around open. Would recommend and would come back.
The line outside PIEbar caught our attention. Our friends recommendation sealed it. We had to try PIEbar when passing back through. Everyone enjoyed their empanadas. I got the Mountain Man with chipotle lime aioli and it was great. Not spicy but a hint a spice there. Also tried the strawberry and cream empanada which was tasty. Overall a good experience!
Great place to stop and enjoy an empanada and hand-pies. Hole-in-the-wall place that is worth getting to. Staff is super friendly, food delicious. Grab-n-go, or enjoy patio seating under the pines & oaks. (Oh. And be sure to get your own and not share... You will want to enjoy it all to yourself.)
They had so many selections from savory and sweet! We had to stop as we drove by, It was quick and delicious! Outdoor seating for a quick serve counter. Plenty of seating, limited parking.
We had seen this restaurant on Arizona Highways on PBS. As we were in the area, we decided to have lunch there. It's a carryout place, but there are plenty of tables outside. We had five empanadas. Lemon, mac & cheese with bacon, chorizo and bean, ham and cheese and chili pork. All were excellent, but the mac & cheese seemed to be lacking bacon. It is fairly expensive but quite filling. The people inside were super nice and we enjoyed chatting with them. If you are in the area, we recommend giving it a try.
We saw the line out the door and figured PIEbar must be good. It is! The line was long but it moved--it was about a 15 minute process. There's ample outdoor seating. We each got a savory empanada and a desert empanada. The artichoke dip was a big hit. I was a bit less enthusiastic about the bean and cheese but appreciate there were vegetarian and vegan options. All the dessert ones were wonderful. The crust is so light and just a little crispy. I was starving by the time we got here late on the afternoon and probably should have ordered 2 savory. I left hungry, but would absolutely go back and order more.
They only really do one thing but they do it VERY WELL. Got the chicken pot pie (hot) and key lime pie (cold) empanadas. Throughly enjoyed both. The perfect quick stop after camping / hiking. The place itself is so cute, very small building put plenty of outdoor seating, with lots of shade available and clean bathrooms. Would definitely recommend making this stop if you are in the area! I love empanadas and it is so hard to find a place that does good FRESH ones like this.
This is a MUST visit in Strawberry! Being directly off of Hwy 260, you cannot miss it driving through town. It's absolutely worth the stop. The menu is huge, so there is an option for everyone! Savory and sweet options depending on the time of day. They are listed on the menu starting with the most popular and going down the list. We tried a bunch of different options and honestly enjoyed them all. Our favorites were the Green Chile Pork, Loaded Baked Potato, Philly Cheese, and the Chicken Pot Pie. We also really liked their breakfast ones too. The Panda one on the sweet options is delicious! Service is excellent here. Very quick and super helpful. They give perfect recs about what pairs with what sauce when ordering. They have a fridge of drinks, beers, and cocktails as well. Pies are available to buy in whole also. Take this as your sign to stop at PIEbar. Sit outside, enjoy some fantastic food and weather, and get back on the road. You will not be disappointed!
We decided to take a detour to enjoy Strawberry on the way up to Flagstaff. So glad we did! It added an hour and a half onto the drive up but was so worth it. We got here around 1:30 pm just in time for some lunch. As I turned my head to the right, asking what we should eat, we all said "PIEbar" together. Jinx. It's just the perfect little cafe. It's bright yellow so it catches your eye. A line of people waiting to order at the front door was moving fast. Parking is right off the highway and in front of the restaurant. There's also additional parking behind the restaurant down the hill. Stairs come straight up to patio from the lower lot. Beautiful patios surround the restaurant with shaded tables. Gorgeous Ivy covered pines and oaks cover the patio areas. Two gender neutral restrooms available in a separate small building next to the restaurant. I love how the menus are written and posted everywhere and list empanadas in order by popularity. Another thing I appreciate is the size of the empanada and the price. They are small enough and inexpensive enough that you could get a snack but if you wanted to get, let's say five or six because you're hungry for lunch it is still affordable. Service was so friendly and great as we ordered at the counter. I couldn't believe how quickly the ordering process went and we were handed a bag of warm empanadas before we knew it. We ordered: - 1 SAVORY Empanada - The Mountain Man Empanada - sausage, potato gravy, cheese (most popular) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Chicken Pot Pie empanada (second most popular) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Picadillo Beef Empanada - shaved beef, diced potato, green chiles, onion, cilantro, tomato, garlic (I got this one and it's #1 in my book) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Artichoke Dip Empanada (meatless) daughter said this was very good - 1 SWEET Empanada - Apple/Dulce de Leche - warm and yummy! We all split this for dessert. The pastry / shell is very tasty and doesn't taste like some I've tried other places with an artificial taste. It's flaky and filling. Handheld size. Perfect for taking on the go. Each empanada placed in a waxed paper sleeve. They've got a few different very tasty dipping sauces as well. We tried the Creamy Green Chile & Pepita Sauce (mild) and the Chipotle Lime Aioli (mild). Very good flavors and fresh.
this place lives up to the hype. The line looks intimidating, but it doesn't take that long at all. It was hard to pick just a few items off the menu, but I was happy with my selections which were the chicken pot pie in the bean and cheese empanada. The buffalo chicken one was also really good. I think they should try to make a chicken tikka one eventually. I'd come back for that.
The best empanadas ever!!!!! (Or that I have tasted). Both the savory and sweet were delicious. My favorite is the cherry empanada! Lines can be long and average wait time is 20ish minutes. I made the mistake of not ordering all at once and because of that I had to line up twice! we brought home a few and its still good when reheated using the airfryer!
Super Cool outside eating area! They even have hoola hoops :-) The chorizo pie tasted excellent - next time get one plus one "Mountain Man" since they fit in your palm :-) Pretty Speedy! Great Service - I forgot to ask for Military Discount, so check :-)
Recommend: Yes. Definitely a spot to check out in Strawberry, AZ. This place is definitely popular with people from outside of town. Food: Empanadas were good! We got The Mountain Man, the Picadillo Beef, and Philly Cheese Steak. My favorite was the Philly cheese steak. Flavor 4/5. Service: quick, nice, and they have restrooms for public to use. My boyfriend and I were driving down from flagstaff and found this place. They were decent size and you can get a sauce with it for 85cents. Everything tasted great but I do have to say the Philly cheese steak one was my favorite. It had a lot of the pepper taste. The others were great as well but wasn't as flavorful as the Philly cheese steak. I still think this is a great place to stop and check out. They also have pies but we didn't get any since we just wanted a small snack.

The Empanadas are so very good. Had the pineapple upside down and the breakfast empanada with the spicy chimichiri. Super spicy but my husband loved it. Both were exceptional. Very friendly people. read more

Super cute spot in Strawberry. Tried the chocolate, pecan, and strawberry cream. Loved them all but strawberry cream was the star. Also had the mountain baby and loved it. Nice outdoor space that we enjoyed relaxing in as the kids played with hula hoops. Would definitely recommend! read more

Fun little experience. Came with my husband and my son. We got several different empanadas and shared them. The mountain Man was delicious The mountain mama was delicious The green chili pork- was ok. It was good but the meat was thick and chewy. I think shredded would be way better The Buffalo chicken was AMAZING. I think it was my favorite. We've passed this place several times over the years and there was always a line out the door & into the parking lot. Then last week, we were passing by & no line! So we finally stopped & ordered a few things to try (green chili empanada, ham & cheese, pecan pie empanada & pineapple upside-down empanada). All were very good & made a nice lunch while traveling, but we couldn't understand the lines that are usual at this place. It was all good, but nothing we'd line up or ever wait for. read more

Small town, small place, great food! Always love to stop at places that I drive by that have lines out the door. PIEbar fit the bill perfectly - local place, long line, and worth the wait. Easy to find, right in the middle of Strawberry. Plenty of parking. You can eat there or get them to go. The line moves quickly. We could not make a decision so we decided to get one of every sweet empanada they. The crust is flaky with a good thickness to it. The fillings range from strawberry to pineapple to Oreo. All were excellent. They have a good selection of savory ones as well, we just did not get any.. Would recommend, would return. N*joy! read more

Saw this place on our way to hike at Tonto State Park and decided to stop by on our way back. Best decision ever! Cute place with friendly staff and lots of patio seating. Fresh empanadas with just the right amount of crunch and softness. We tried: Chicken pot pie 10/10 Picadillo beef 10/10 Green Chile pork 10/10 Mountain baby 12/10 Molten chocolate 10/10 Lemon bar 10/10 If it wasn't a 2 and a half hour drive for us, we'd be here everyday! read more

This place is so good! I love the green chile pork and the buffalo chicken empanadas! The coffee was a perfect add to the day! If you are traveling around the area I would definitely wait in the line! Totally worth it! You can eat off the picnic tables as well or enjoy it in your car like we did :) read more

Delicious! Absolutely stop and enjoy the empanadas/pies. Great outdoor seating with beautiful scenery. Love just about all of them, top favs are picadillo beef, green chili pork, chicken pot pie, mountain man. But stop - you must have mini pies: mixed berry is out of this world! Dutch apple mini pie is also very good but I prefer the mixed berry! Do yourself a favor a take some for home, all empanadas and pies reheat well. Chipotle, lime aïoli is my favorite dipping sauce. Next time I'll take pics of the food but we dive into the bag so fast I forget. Enjoy! read more

My husband and I decided to take a day trip and wound up in Strawberry. We stopped at the Pie Bar for a late lunch, and were so glad we did! Many hand pie choices, both savory and sweet. We tried several variations, the Mountain Mama, Mountain Baby, green chili pork and a cherry pie. All were delicious. They are small so two makes a good meal. All come with a sauce of your choice. Delicious, fun, friendly. Will return! read more

This place was recommended and it is easily 5 stars. So happy we stopped by today. We ordered 3 empanadas to try- mountain man, bean and cheese with the chimichurri sauce, and lemon bar. Pros: - super cute place with a simple menu where they specialize in one thing, and do it very well. - perfectly baked empanadas with great fillings. - sweet and savory options. - good choice of canned cocktails, beer, and hard seltzer available. - the chimichurri is one of the best I've had. It has a nice kick of spice from the habanero. Cons: - that my stomach isn't big enough to try all of them lol. read more
With a varied empanada menu sure to please any picky palate, lots of patio seating, a dog + kiddo friendly atmosphere, and a giant photo of a manic Dali looking like he's sounding his barbaric yawp over the rooftops of this establishment, who wouldn't want to come to PieBar to fill their pie hole? We stopped here to get lunch. They have a wide selection of savory and sweet empanadas in various flavor profiles. It was tempting to get them all! I settled on splitting a Mountain Mamma (I was after all, technically a mama on this mountain), a green chile pork, and strawberry rhubarb with the family. Since all the hand pies are typically premade and nestled in a display case there was hardly any wait and I was out the door in no time. The interior is small but they opened up all the doors to let more air circulation in which made it both cooler and safer for ordering. There are two patios to choose from. One is behind the shop. The other is adjacent to it, and gated off with a tiny kid's playground available. Both patios seem to be dog friendly and there were a lot of puppers (Including ours) paying careful heed to any pie-related plummets to the pavement. I tried a bit of the strawberry rhubarb and the green chile pork. I thoroughly enjoyed both. The fillings were plentiful and the empanada crust was flaky and tender. The toddler took it upon herself to finish the entire Mountain Mamma all by herself so perhaps that makes her more of a Butte Bambina. Since typically the only way this gal will eat her veggies is by sneaking it into other foods she eats, this was quite a compliment to the shop's pie prowess for her to eat this mostly veggie meal. For your reference it contains spinach, bacon, garlic, mushroom, parmesan, and red pepper flakes. I was still a bit hungry after eating the equivalent of one empanada so I'd probably get at least 2 per person if you're aiming to eat them as a full meal. One might also opt to get some sides or dessert pies to fill that belly full of enticing empanadas. I was driving through after a weekend of camping and decided to stop and try this place I got the chicken pot pie which was more bread than filling so I ate all the filling I ended up throwing half of it away The filling had good flavor putty there was so little I also got the berry blossom with a ice cream cup and that was fire Lastly I got the strawberry and cream and I was extremely disappointed The filling to bread ratio was completely off Please see pic Needless to say I would not be stopping by again anytime soon read more

PieBar its still love at 1st sight! Was in the area and knew I had to stop by! This time on my visit I went with the Mountain Momma, Red Chili Beef, Cherry, Pineapple Upside and Molten Chocolate, some to eat right then and some for the ride home. I also went for the habanero cilantro chimichurri and icing deep. The mountain Momma was new to me, it was a empanada stuffed with spinach, garlic, mushrooms, bacon, parmesan, red pepper flakes and on its own its delish but put some of that chimichurri sauce on it and hot damm that is tasty! Let me warn you though that chimichurri isn't weak so if you can't handle heat, its not for you! If in Strawberry go give PieBar a try, don't stress about the line either, it moves quickly, so relax and get ready for some great bites! read more

To be totally fair here, we literally had our eye on this one from the MINUTE we saw the giant sign upon arrival in Strawberry. There was absolutely no way we were going to bypass PieBar! And, it really was because of the amazing "screaming" sign! We did not know they were signed up to join our overall perk. So, we absolutely hit this joint up on our own time & went to town- in literal form, ahead of knowing. It's no lie when they say this is the most popular. A line forms VERY quickly! We sincerely appreciate the menu posted outside, that way it lets everyone ready get to the counter to order & those of us contemplating can take a moment to decide. Because there isn't a shortage here of options! We really appreciated how patient the staff were. We put in an order for 3- each of plus planning to share & indulge in just about every flavor try we could fit in. Veggie, green chili pork, apple, strawberry cream... I mean, there are SO many options & it's just impossible to go wrong! While they did have a very cute picnic table next to the shop, we also had a very cute cottage with a perfect patio- noticed the canned drinks in the cooler so opted for a few adult beverages to take along with our empanadas... talk about a wonderful afternoon on the patio! Absolutely loved the side of icing coming with the "dessert" variety. But, every empanada was cooked to perfection & better than anything I've ever been offered. The flavor in the green chili was out of this world! Strawberry & cream was just a slight step down from literal heaven! The sauces on the side were generously provided, though you can request. If it is a busy time- expect a slight wait in line. Otherwise they are working hard & ultimately have great service... I don't know how they manage to do it, but there are even full pies to purchase! Goodness that was tempting when I saw the key-lime! I would come back specifically for Pie Bar. This was absolutely one of the best roadside attractions & the sign says it all. The staff is amazing, the food is even better... You literally CANNOT ignore the giant PIE BAR screaming billboard & this will forever be my favorite advertisement!!! read more

This place is not just cool signage, great beats, and gorgeous scenery! The pies are tasty regardless if you get sweet or savory! Great to take back to the cabin to enjoy and save the leftovers for later. Service was also quick and very friendly. I would definitely return! read more
If your ever in Strawberry, AZ- hit this place up. Their "pies" more like a empanada lol in my opinion or a hand pie I guess are so good. My favorite was the strawberries and cream hands down. Taste just like what you'd expect it to taste like with the cream. We got like 5 other sweet ones and they were ardelish. No complaints. read more

Cute & casual restaurant that specializes in... you guessed it pies!! These are hand pies or empanadas. Choose from popular savory or sweet pies and enjoy it in the outdoor tables beside the building. I a good dipping sauce so we got the icing for our sweet empanadas, and I wished I had ordered a dipping sauce with my red chili beef pie. The line was long, but it goes quickly as long as everyone knows what they are ordering. They were fully stocked and ready with pies for your order. I might grab some breakfast pies on the way out since I'm walking distance. #supportlocal read more
PIEbar, where have you been all my life?! I have been eyeing this Yelp bookmark for some time now, looking for an opportunity to get here! My hubby was not too excited about going to the Lavender Farm in Pine, but when I told him he'd be treated to some killer empanadas, I didn't even have to resort to arm twisting! You can't miss their unique sign that just yells PIEbar, and as we passed it on our way to the Lavender Farm, we thought we heard the dude say, "hey, where are you going!" Our anticipation to get back here grew even more! Cute place, nice outdoor seating with some awesome views! Staff was super nice! We ate some there and took some home! They reheat nicely in the toaster oven! We ended up getting and sharing the Mountain Man, Mountain Mamma, Mountain Baby, Green Chili Pork, Mushroom Stroganoff, Strawberry Cream and Cherry Empanadas with Creamy Green Chile and Pepita Sauce and Habanero/Cilantro Chimichurri! Wow! The chimichurri has some real kick to it, but I really liked the Creamy Green Chile and Pepita Sauce! Draw me a bath with that please! For the savories, Mountain Man and Mountain Mamma were our faves and on the sweet, the Strawberry Cream! They were all so very good and there's more to try, so we can't wait to come here again! They might want to consider shipping! Oh and did I mention they have cocktails and coffee as well? Was this place good? Yes and no. I agree with another Yelper that my expectations about this business somewhat exceeded the reality. We learned about PIEBar on an episode of Arizona Highways, which absolutely raved about their empanadas. So we added it to our list of places to visit. First impression - yikes, it's small! The bright red & yellow building is only 329 sq feet! There is no seating inside, obviously. They have tables on both sides of the building, but it was cold so we ended up eating inside of our truck. When you go inside, you are greeted by an inviting showcase of their various empanadas. The lady behind the counter was friendly. I asked who was the smiling face on their logo and she explained it was Salvador Dali. He was simply a "placeholder" the owner used on the logo, which people liked so they kept it. The menu helpfully lists empanadas in order of popularity. I chose the top 2, The Mountain Man (sausage, potato, gravy, cheese) and Chicken Pot Pie. My husband also chose Mountain Man and Cordon Bleu. I also got a sweet "lemon bar" empanada. Each of the small pies was about $5. After his first bites of The Mountain Man, my husband said, "I'm not sure you're going to like this. It's spicy." I was surprised because the menu did not indicate it was spicy. But he was right - it was quite spicy. I asked later about that, and was told it's because it's made with chorizo. Despite the spiciness, it was very good. I can't say that about my chicken pot pie, which tasted like a Swanson TV dinner folded into a empanada. My husband did not much like his cordon bleu which he said consisted of dry chicken and he couldn't even taste the cheese. However, the lemon bar empanada was delicious. I wish I had bought several of the sweet ones. I'm guessing the sweet empanadas are better than the savory empanadas. Bonus points to the clean restroom in front, a welcome sight after driving 1.5 hours. Would I come again? Yes, but only for the delicious sweet empanadas. read more
