So many creative empanadas to choose from including sweet, savory, breakfast, and a couple vegetarian ones clearly marked on their menu. Seating is all outdoor but much is shaded by umbrella coverage. I got the Veggie Gallimaufry which they recommended I pair with the creamy green chile & pepita dipping sauce. Chef's kiss delish! So glad I decided to stop and get a quick snack for the road. I seem to keep driving by here when they're closed and finally caught them when they were open. I ordered 3 empanadas: the mountain man (fav), artichoke dip and peach. They are all baked to perfection and the fillings were so delicious. I also got a side of frosting for the peach empanada. I am half hearted with my experience at this place. A coworker recommended this place.They have a wide selection of empanadas and pies. I find their chimichurri, too salty. My son found a strand of hair in his ham and cheese empanada. Which grossed me out, so much! Although they gave him a new one, I kinda question the quality and standard of their food preparation. There's ample parking and a decent amount of outdoor only seating. There's been a line both times I've gone, which is usually a positive sign. The staff is friendly, fast, and efficient which keeps the line moving quickly! Between my two visits, I tried a handful of different empanada flavors from savory to sweet. All of their empanadas are incredible. A few standouts are the breakfast empanada, veggie gallimaufry, panda, and lemon bar. Can't forget about the sauce! The spicy chimichurri complements all the savory ones really well and the icing enhances all the sweet ones. The empanadas are made in house and you can really taste the quality. The sweet girl (dang I didn't get her name) was extremely helpful and shared lots of background information on the establishment. She even shared a picture of what it looked like before. A little over four years ago it was just a shed. The person who is now the owner is also in real estate and decided to turn it into an empanada stand. The empanadas were fresh, hot, & super yummy. Still one of our favorite places to go when we're visiting Rim Country! This trip, we tried the cherry, panda, and Buffalo chicken empanadas. The Buffalo chicken was SO good. A lot better than we expected. The cherry was good as well, but I think I would've liked it better cold. We tried the panda later that evening when we got home. It's a mix of Oreo and cream. Not sure why it's the least popular out of the sweet empanadas because it was quite tasty! The only thing that threw us off was the strong almond flavor. I would've liked it better if the cream weren't almond - but it was still really good!! Happy Independence Day! There's nothing more American than apple pie. Okay, so they actually sell empanadas here but stop poking holes into my review, haha! My friends and I popped on over after doing the Water Wheel Falls Hiking Trail in Payson for some good eats. I chugged half a can before pushing it aside in favor of that delicious cold H20 I had with me. Mountain Man, $5.35: Sausage, potato, gravy, and cheese! I mean, how can you really go wrong with this savory delicious combo? They also have a Mountain Mamma if you want to devour the couple. Green Chili Pork, $5.85: Juicy, succulent, and tasty. As much as I love green chili, I find myself gravitating towards the Mountain Man more. Apple with Dulce de Leche, $5.50: You gotta get yourself dessert, right? I was too full by the time I got to this one so I took it home to reheat in the air fryer. It was good! It's not as melty and gooey as I would have liked but the flavors were there and they were singing like a blue jay! I will say that after having a bite of my friend's Chicken Pot Pie, I think that was truly my favorite bite of this excursion. WOW! Visiting Payson for a few days and had to drop by this pie shop many people talk about. Strawberry was 30 mins away from payson. Huge selections including some fun summer pies. Now they sell whole pies.. as people have told me they only sell hand pies. The pies had a very crunchy crust and hot out of the oven. It is hard to miss with their awesome sign! There is ample parking and though they do not have any indoor seating, they have plentiful of lovely outdoor seating. You can tell this place is a local and tourist fave. With a consistent flow of rotating guests and their setup, everyone wants a piece! They have a large menu on the outside to scope out and organize it by favorites (Top to bottom). They offer savory and sweet empanadas, along with mini pies or full-size pies and a drink cooler with a plentiful of options from canned cocktails to pop. We were hoping to get the breakfast empanadas, but they were sold out at around 11. Their menu specifies available during morning, so I imagine they make a batch and sell them to they are gone, because they are constantly making fresh batches of the rest of them! We opted for a Buffalo Chicken, Bean + Cheese, Veggie and Cherry one. They have an awesome list of sauces that range from .55 to .85 cents and make suggestions based on your order, We paired the above with chipotle lime aioli, pepita and icing for our sweet empanada. They bag them up right there for you, pair the sauces accordingly and give you a paper bag full of your goodies and you are on your way! I do not think I could have eaten them any faster! They were so good, I opted to get another round for dinner! Hah! The second round consisted of Chicken Pot Pie, Spinach Artichoke, Philly Steak, Green Chili and Apple and I got one side of their spicy chimichurri sauce (It was delicious, but had a great kick)! They had a few in the oven on this order, so brought them out to us fresh and hot about 10 minutes after we ordered. Each empanada ranges from 5-6 dollars roughly. Love just about all of them, top favs are picadillo beef, green chili pork, chicken pot pie, mountain man. But stop - you must have mini pies: mixed berry is out of this world! Dutch apple mini pie is also very good but I prefer the mixed berry! Do yourself a favor a take some for home, all empanadas and pies reheat well. Chipotle, lime aïoli is my favorite dipping sauce.
