Really solid quick eats in Montebello. I think fish and chips is generally pretty subpar but I think Pier 1 makes it pretty well. I think it has to do with the way they batter the fish. I also really like their fried shrimp. I usually opt for some combo where I can have both. I haven't had the heart to try any of their other dishes just because their deep fried fish and shrimp are so much better than other places. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's not necessarily worth driving out of your way for, but if you're looking for a delicious and quick dinner option in this area, you should hit up Pier 1 Fish N Chips. read more

A little gem of a place. We got the teri salmon bowl, salmon salad, fried chicken, and fried zucchini (OMG the zucchini!!). Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The fried chicken and zucchini were perfectly crispy and fresh and the batter for both was soooo good (the chicken had a heavier, more savory batter, and the zucchini had a light, tempura-like batter). My go to place for quick bite. 1 fish is $3 and $4 for 1 order of zuchinni spears. The staff are very nice and efficent in taking and making orders. The food is cooked consistently well each time. Place is clean. Minus 1 star for inconsistency in portion sizes. I have ordered here least 15 times 80% time it is what I expect in portion size. Other time the fish is 25% smaller than normal or the zucchini spears are half the lengrh of what they normally serve. Good. Small little place in the middle of an Asian strip mall. Blink and will miss it. Limited seating. Food was solid. We needed a snack on the way to LA and choices were limited as Lent just began. I have been searching for a Fish and Chip shop since Hot Red Bus closed in Alhambra. This was described as a hole-in-the-wall. It is tiny with a small dining area with maybe five tables and aluminum chairs. The type of aluminum chairs that make an unbearable sound as it's dragged on the floor. The shop has both Hawaiian inspired food, and Fish and Chips. The fish is tasty, and has a crisp, oily crunch but the cookie cutter, mass produced, triangular shape is a turn off. We both thought the fish was frozen and came right out of the box. The french fries (chips) were decent, but more on the well done side. It was an inexpensive lunch, $8.76 that included a can of soda; and it did satisfy my Fish & Chip craving momentarily. I do like H. Salt but the Montebello location is long gone. I was just discharged from the hospital after a two week stay and we were on our way home. After two weeks of subpar hospital food I was 1) starving for some descent food and 2) in the mood for fish & chips. This place was on the way home. WOW Did we hit the jackpot on this find! My husband and I both had fish & chips with a small side of coleslaw. And a Thai sweet iced tea. First of all, this is not fine dining or really even family dining as there are just 2-3 chairs and three tables with attached to the wall benches. However, for us, the food more than made up for that. Served to our table was piping hot perfectly light batter dipped fried fish in a paper lined basket with hot hot hot crispy medium thickness French fries also perfectly fried. All their sauces are made in-house and this was the very best tarter sauce I've had in years! Very tasty and fresh! The tarter sauce is on the table, it's been refrigerated so it's cold). They also sell tarter sauce to-go, plus I believe several other sauces. Coleslaw??? Super super icy cold yummiest! Sweet plentiful sauce. This is very similar to how I make mine. This was definitely worthy of 5 Stars and might well be a place we go back to considering we live in Orange County. Oh, just a heads' up on their HOURS. They need to update their hours on Yelp. I had been craving this stuff so you can imagine how totally ecstatic I was when I saw Pier 1 Fish N Chips open up here at the Beverly Wilcox Village! Their facility is clean but there were only 4 table inside. Make sure you call in your order. They take a while to fill orders. Expect to be greeted by a friendly staff. If you're in the mood for Boba, you'll find that here too! Today I tried a small variety of items: Fish & Chips, Sweet Potato Fries, Chicken Wings, and Jalapeño Poppers. Fish: 3/5 Although each piece was moist, I think Pier 1 needs to work on their batter and frying technique. I miss the light, fragile blonde colored batter of H. Salt. This batter was on the firmer side and was more greasy than I prefer. Chips (French Fries): 4.5/5 WHOA! I heart these fries! They are larger than a normal french fry and possess a crispy exterior. *SPOILER ALERT* But the delightful surprise is when you bite into it. These fries are sooooo soft in the center and taste like you're eating mashed potatoes! Amazing! Sweet Potato Fries: 4.5/5 Who knew that a little fish and chip shop in Montebello has such tasty sweet frites?! My favorite version is still found at Father's Office, but these have to be my second favorite (tied with 25 Degrees). Each fry was so moist in their center and had a perfectly crispy exterior. Chicken Wings (10 pcs): 4.5/5 POW! They really have a good thing going here! Only thing that would make them better is if they were hot wings! Maybe they should change their business model from a fish and chip place and become a hot wing place...or maybe make hot wings their focus. These wings had perfect batter and tasted like Dixie Fry (which I happen to looooove)! How moist were the wings? Well, the drumettes were extremely moist and flavorful. They didn't taste like boiled chicken flesh. Wings were not as moist, but still moist enough. Jalapeño Poppers: 2/5 These were more generic and lacked imagination. They varied in size and amount of pepper. Stuffing was alright, but I've certainly had better. Will I be coming back? Certainly...most definitely for their chicken wings! The amount you get is perfect for me since I'm not a big eater but for those who love big plates you may want to order more.
