Our reservation was for 7:30, and thanks to some fartknocker cab driver we were 30 minutes late. The hostess was accommodating and she didn't mind our tardiness. Side note-they had some lovely aquariums with exotic fish. We sat on the patio of this establishment. I slugged down 6 Bud lights and rammed some Birkshire pork into my gob. This was a Valentines Day special visit to Bradenton. Restaurant has lovely, beautiful location on the water! Since it was Valentines Day, every woman received a long stem red rose (a lovely thought) and much appreciated. For Valentines Day, they had a special holiday menu. I was a little disappointed because we were planning to have the Chateubriand for 2 but the holiday menu had eliminated it so we had fish and crab cakes. Our friends had prime rib and tuna. Food was very good, reasonably priced and served nicely. I would definitely return to Pier 22 for another chance to try the Chateaubriand and experience the restaurant. A Valentines success. Ok so today - Saturday early afternoon my friend brought me out to this establishment for my Birthday. We were excited to go. Upon entering everything seems great- lots of Yachts parked on the peir - Mercedes in the driveway- perfect location - the only thing left for a "past perfect" dining experience would be great food and a courteous and efficient staff. Not a lot to ask when you are going to a nice place to eat right? Wrong. I am SO disappointed I could just cry. I had a rough year of loss leading up to my 59th birthday ( ugh) so for a new friend to take me out to celebrate was a true blessing. We only had a choice of a brunch menu as they don't have the dinner menu until after 3- ok understandable. We ordered and my friend simple order of eggs Benedict was not good. The hollandaise was chunky - had no flavor - the eggs were overdone and unfortunately the English muffin wasn't even toasted so - She was just not going to eat it - seeing it took so long to get it (over 30 minutes after order)I talked her in to returning it for something else - she waited for the waitress to come and ask how things were, she told her and the waitress did the right thing and so as I picked at my very overcooked "fish special" - finally the waitress returned with her supposed newly cooked and done properly meal. As the waitress walked away my friend asked if she could please have silverware the waitress yelled as she was walking away "I told you I was getting you silverware !!! The waitress had a mask on and my friend didn't hear her because she was walking away from her ... all the while this waitress was yelling angrily. There was another party of maybe 20 women celebrating their mothers birthday also and they turned around and looked at us in total shock. When the waitress came back to the table she literally slammed down the silverware wrapped in a black napkin and YELLED "I told you I was getting you silverware you didn't have to say anything to me ...God!!!! " Let me tell you ... everybody in the room was staring at that waitress in shock. My friend was shaking and she said " I don't have to put up with this why are you yelling at me? "The waitress started yelling again and then backed up from the table put her hands up in the air and said "oh now I am being abused by a customer!" still yelling. Her name was Chelsie. I hope Chelsea gets some help because she obviously needs it. You never ever speak to a customer in that tone no matter what and nothing had even happened to her with us... it was truly insane. My friend said "that's it I'm done " and she got up from the table. Of course I followed her and we went to the manager. My 70+ yr old friend was almost in tears and shaking, I was not sure she could even drive. She told the manager what had happened and the manager said she'd take care of it and that was the end of it. In retrospect seeing it was such a horrific incident and also a birthday celebration wouldn't one think that there would've been some sort of recompense offered? Truly unbelievable experience. It's very sad that a place in such a beautiful location would have such horrible service - sub par food and a manager that would offer no solution. Unfortunate at best. I mean maybe the manager was new or maybe she was in shock. None the less... no solution. Don't go here if you want a nice celebration for anything and don't go if you are hungry. If you are angry and you want to fight - go to Peir 22. I wish I didn't have to write this but it is worth letting others know. read more

Call me Fresco, Al Fresco. My guiding principal is to frequent only those eateries which offer outdoor seating, preferably with a view. While important, quality and depth of cuisine and imbibables are secondary to open air. From the perspective of this eccentric scheme, Pier 22 is a standout. Situated in a handsome older building in a marina on the Manatee River estuary, P22 devotes a little more than one of its four main sides to its Patio and most of a side to its glorious Terrace, which has more elbow room, granite table surfaces, trees for shade, and arcs of concrete cobble pavers. We first visited for Sunday brunch. We were happy to see that the ball room was starting to fill with a large party of locals. Judging from their khaki suits and fancy dress, they seemed the sort of group that would politely command lots of attention. This was great, as we were hoping for really slow service. The day was crystalline, the river sparkled, and somehow, seating was available on the Terrace. In other words, conditions were perfect for pretending that we were in the south of France. Who wouldn't want to linger? Linger we did. Our first round of drinks took between twenty minutes and half an hour. We had a Bloody Mary and a Yuengling. While we were happy that P22 offered any drafts at all and are proud to support America's oldest beer, we remain puzzled by an apparent inverse relationship between a proximity to water (fresh or salt) and draft depth. With rare exceptions, the pursuit of hoppiness does not lead to the beach. But I digress. After the waiter had finished satisfying Big Daddy and his cohorts and prompted by another waiter who knew when a guy needed a drink, our waiter took our order. We ordered eggs Benedict over capicola, shrimp and grits to celebrate the impending Oscars, and another BM to wash down the SAG. While we weren't exactly hungry, we were confident that we would be by the time our victuals arrived. The second Bloody Mary showed up first. The waiter cleverly forestalled any complaints by immediately apologizing for the lack of a celery stick as he presented the drink. He said that there was a celery shortage and mumbled something about the disruption in the Ukraine, although I think we all suspected that it had more to do with Big Daddy and the boys whooping it up in the ballroom. No matter. When the celery did show up, it came with a bonus olive and lime wedge. The Eggs Benedict were worth the wait and the Shrimp and Grits could not be surpassed without driving to Charleston. I think that the cheese grits must have used more than one cheese to attain their combination of flavor and texture. Next time, I might order a dinner-sized portion, although that might bring on unami overload. By skipping dessert, we were able to wrap up our meal in about two hours and for under $40,including tip. In the highly competitive Florida market, this is no bargain, but we thought that the meal was well worth the price. I'm not being ironic when I say that we relished the slow service. In fact, we relished the slow service so much that we returned to the Pier XXII Terrace (it's really too fancy for 22) on Monday to try the happy hour appetizers. When we arrived at 3:45, we were the third table seated. We were worried that service would be prompt, but our fears were misplaced. Things were as slow as ever. Don't get the idea that the servers are lethargic or surly. Quite the opposite. It's just that the bar and kitchen march to the beat of a different and much slower drummer. This is just fine with us but might annoy patrons who want their tempo McFast. We started off with calamari and a soy mustard dipping sauce. The squids were breaded more than we would have liked, but there weren't so many of them on a $6 plate that we were in danger of greasy overload. The sauce was spectacular. Some of the ingredients must have been under a non-disclosure agreement, as I don't think that any combination of soy and mustard will duplicate their results. But we will try. We also had spring rolls and a small marinara pizza. They were disappointing. Someone might say, "What do you expect for $6 or $7?" Well, to paraphrase Spencer Tracy, I don't expect much, but what there is should be cherce. On Sunday, P22 showed what they are capable of. On Monday, I think that the coach gave the first team off and cleared the bench. Many places don't even bother to open Monday. It's possible that we simply paid the price of arriving at the slackest time in their schedule and that by evening, the starters would have returned. The terrace was lovely as ever, and we were happy to be there. It is place that pulls back on the hands of time. read more

Overpriced Average Food This place is located on a pier. Maybe you've already figured that out. The pier is overlooking the Manatee River. It's not a spectacular view, but it's ok. It's a restaurant, but they also host weddings and do catering. While we were there, a wedding was taking place outside on the pier right next to the water. There's not very much room out there. There were maybe 40 plus or minus guests at the wedding. The bride had to come in from the side. There was no isle to walk down. The people were really crunched in there. The food is average. One thing that was horrible was something they called key lime pie. It wasn't key lime pie. It didn't even taste anything like key lime pie. To this day I regret having eaten that. I should have just stopped after the first bite rather than intake all those calories for something to mediocre. There are other restaurants in the area that are much better. read more

We stopped here for lunch before spending the rest of the day on the boat. We started with the Moscow Mules which were so refreshing. The waiter brought out bread and two types of butter. One butter had garlic and different seasonings in it. We were all obsessed with the butter. Probably my favorite part of lunch haha. We also had the macadamia shrimp for an app. Also very good! For lunch, my friend and I shared the pier 22 burger which was perfectly cooked. I love fried eggs in my burger and it also included bacon and avocado. We needed lunch with an espresso. Hubby ordered stuffed lobster with crab (rock lobster, warm water), red potatoes. Vegetable was supposed to be zuccini and ? but they brought spinach. :( Lobster was over cooked (rubbery, chewy) but it had a good flavor. Never found the crab stuffing. Staff was very friendly and courteous. I would still highly recommend this restaurant. From pulling up and having my car was Valley parked, to the amazing view off the patio deck. Where they are dog friendly, the service there is one of a kind. Very attentive. The food is to die for. I love to come here for Happy hour because they have quite a selection of $5 plates and you can get a great beer or mixed drink for around $4. Happy hour prices can't be beat. I usually get a sushi roll and have had the fried calamari. Both were good. Drinks are made great. They have a $4 mojito which is a great deal. I have also come here for dinner and while the meal was good, I thought it was a bit over priced all things considered. I have no problem paying high prices for meals, but just not here. I am so shocked by the negative reviews of this restaurant! I was honestly so impressed by this place! I had an amazing flatbread as an appetizer, and this delicious artichoke and seafood pasta. We came to this restaurant about 10 minutes before happy hour ended and our waitress was on top of it! As soon as she brought back one drink she placed our order for the second round. She understood completely that we were there for a good time and she made sure we all had at least two rounds ordered within those last 10 minutes. The waitress also volunteered to take our photo and even suggested we all go outside to take the best photos. The service, food, atmosphere, and view were all amazing. Early lunch celebrating my granddaughter's birthday. Party of 7 seated right away. Our waitperson, Luz, greeted us in a timely manner and drinks were ordered. Happy hour cocktails were $4!! Great deal. Included house wines, also. Appetizers of calamari and honeyed shrimp were also on the early menu. Both were great. On to entrees. 5 of us ordered one of the two fish specials-grouper topped with lump crab with a Hollandaise drizzle and a crab stuffed flounder. Both on a bed of sweet corn risotto. Grouper dish had a side of asparagus and the flounder side was mixed vegetables. Both dishes sooo well cooked. Other entrees were a delicious shrimp dish and an Asian noodle dish-both very flavorful. I normally love Pier 22 but I feel moved to write a review after observing management's interactions with his staff. I was greeted warmly by the hostess and needed a table for a party of 8. She left the hostess stand to check available tables/ ready mine and as she came back she was yelled at by her manager for leaving her post. I found that he was unnecessarily abrasive towards her, and discipline of your employees should NEVER happen directly in front of customers. Beautiful setting on the water. Had lunch there with a friend yesterday, and although a hot and steamy Florida afternoon, the breeze from the water was wonderful. My NY strip steak with a sauce (sides of roasted potatoes & spinach) was delicious. The rest of our party ordered pasta, seafood, & sushi; all said they liked their meals. 2 of us ordered dessert (peanut butter pie & crème brûlée); both were superb. My parents live in the area, and I've been here about 5 times with them. While the atmosphere and setting is very nice (right on the water) I have yet to have a decent meal here. We went today for lunch with a large group, and 3 of us ordered the chef's special sandwich, which was turkey, bacon, and Swiss cheese on a croissant. The sandwich was ice cold with zero flavor. I ate almost one half of the sandwich because was hungry, but had to force it down. I can't remember previous meals I've had here, but have never enjoyed any. Also, I rarely post reviews because I'm not the type of person who gets bent out of shape over bad food, but I've had it with this place. Our party of ten had no trouble getting a table on the patio somewhat last minute. Once we were seated we were greted and our drink orders We're taken by Luz our server. The sea bass was the best I've ever tried served with mixed grilled vegitables and cheesey corn risotto. My 17 ye old son ordered the fish and chips and he ate every last one. Dad enjoyed the pan seared grouper. All were delicious. The patio does allow well mannered dogs and in the evening the tiki torches are lit to add to the elegant peaceful ambiance. read more
