My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant a few times. Service is usually decent and the food is okay ... nothing to brag about but since it is so close to our house we decided to go one night. The waiter is the reason why we will NEVER step foot in this restaurant again. We were dressed normal- I had a nice shirt and palazzo pants and my boyfriend was wearing a regular black shirt with some nice jeans...well instead of the waiter JOSE greeting us with "hi how are you" the first thing out of his mouth was - "are you here to work or eat" with a nasty attitude. I laughed it off at first but he continued to insult us by saying how we look like we just got back from the beach. Seriously dude??? I kid you not we spend at least 200 or more everyone we come here. I'm appalled by the terrible hospitality. Pretty shitty attitude for a mediocre place. read more

New Years Eve - we are a reserved party of 7 people for 8:30 - we arrive at 8:25 and stare at our open table from the bar area for 30 minutes... to finally basically have a fit with the hostess and say, we see our table, may we sit at it... Then we waited another 20-25 minutes to get menus!!! This was no way to start off a great meal with friends and start off 2020 the right way! Getting the specials from the server was like pulling teeth, actually getting anything from him was hard, yet the bus staff went above and beyond! So spotty.... While the food was great, very tasty and reasonably priced, having service like that on a holiday evening does no one favors. We had been to the restaurant before for a previous new years, and friends live locally in the area and frequent this place... but I can't give it more than 3 stars... Service was miserable, I get it, it's a holiday and your done dealing with folks - then get out of the industry... but that was no reason for the lengthy waits for simple items, like MENUS!!! Dinner should have NOT taken 3 hours to complete for 7 adults - we were lucky to make it out there before the ball drop, since it seemed that us being there was holding them up from doing that as well! read more

I would give this restaurant zero stars, if possible. The worst Chilean sea bass I've ever had in my life. The fish was extremely mushy with zero flavor. In fact the entire dish had no seasoning.... very bland. When I told the waitress, I was further disappointed as she didn't seem to care in the least. This was the first time in 10+ years coming here. The service was amazing. We had the paella was delicious. We split it between two people and still had a bunch to take home. The best part of the meal was the poached pear! It is one of the best desserts I've ever had. We have gone back to get it again. 100% recommend this restaurant. read more

Last night's dinner at Pier 95 was lovely and wonderful. Marc S. and I were graciously invited by his parents for our last night's dinner in Merrick, NY. We arrived promptly at Freeport for our 8 o'clock reservation, greeted warmly by the hostess, and seated us near the big windows...close enough so we may have a great view of the docked boats in the canal, but not close enough to be frozen by the wind draft. We were each given a menu and asked for our beverage preference. We opted and synonymously agreed for glasses of water and a bottle of the house Portuguese red, Grao Vasco's 2005 Dao (deep w/ a hint of fruit notes). For starters, Marc opted for a bowl of CLAM CHOWDER and I, the LOBSTER BISQUE...where we switched half-way thru the bowl. We both agreed that the Clam Chowder was much more appetizing than the Lobster Bisque, which was lacking the creamy / milky texture with a piece of lobster meat in the center. Ask Mr. Soup Nazi, he would agree! Marc's parents shared the CRAB CAKES, and they found them delicious. Our main course was a ceramic bowl of PAELLA VALENCIANA (lobster pieces, scallops, shrimps, mussels, clams, Portuguese sausage, and chicken). Marc and I shared this dish down to the last pieces in the bowl. The seafood and meat are tender, and the rice and veggie pieces are spiced properly w/ hints of saffron. While Marc's dad had the REGULAR PAELLA (sans sausages, chicken, and scallops), and his mom, the SEAFOOD BOWL w/ herbed white wine sauce. Again, they found their dishes palatable. Our dessert consisted of an order of the TARTUFO (2 flavors of Italian ice cream w/ a Maraschino cherry in the center, enrobed in a shell of dark chocolate) and CREME BRULEE, paired w/ demistasses of espressos & regular coffee. We all enjoyed the sweet offerings as we chatted away about the nuances of our relationships and tax season. Aren't we such deipnosophists? It was a great dinner and a great night indeed! read more

Just came back from a wonderful meal @ Pier 95. We went there based upon the Zagat score and we were thrilled. All 4 of us ordered from the specials, and couldn't have been any happier. We were waited on by who I think is the owner, and the service couldn't have been better. We figured since its a Portuguese restaurant, we'd ask him to recommend the wine for the ladies and beer for the men. Home runs with both! The soups were amazing, as was the meal and the desert was to die for. If they have it, try the Poached Pear. My wife who'd kill for chocolate, couldn't keep her spoon out o f it once she had a taste. The view: So much better than the Nautical Mile! I love boats, so honestly, I'm happy eating a burger as long as its near the water. Instead of looking out at commercial fishing and tour boats, you have a wonderful view of a wider canal and 2 marinas filled with pleasure craft. The decor and view at this restaurant are great. But that's about all that's good about this place. The staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional. And the food was subpar to what i expected. I'm not the kind of person who usually writes negative reviews, but this place needs some serious improvement. When i ordered a beer that was on the menu the waitress said "yuck" and was disgusting that somebody would order that. I've never in my life had a waiter or waitress react that way to a drink order. Throughout our dinner, whenever we needed something, we had to flag down a staff member. If we didn't, they wouldn't even come over to check up on us. We came to Pier 95 tonight for Mother's Day. We are sitting at a table with the perfect view of the marina right outside. Beautiful boats even though the sky is laden with heavy clouds. The menu is amazing. There were 16 or 18 items as main courses on the price fixed menu and a nice array of appetizers as well. The restaurant was done over after the hurricane five years ago and it looks freshened up and cozy inside. read more

The only thing good about the place was the service. The food was cheap and pretentious. The cooks did a good job cooking the meats to the right temperature but, everything was bland. The meats we're choice cuts at prime prices. Both my lamb and my girlfriends filet were covered in gristle, and store bought veal demi-glaze that was bland and unappetizing, as well as yesterdays dry mashed potatoes. The worst part of the entire meal was the ShopRite brand frozen mixed vegetables with zero seasoning. At $120 bill I feel like the food was utterly disappointing. read more

My husband and I go to this place often. We can't bring ourselves to order anything other than their amazing baked stuffed lobster. The waitstaff is always extremely pleasant and knowledgable. Rubio was the most amazing waiter I've ever come across. From the first step that we made into the restaurant to when we paid our check, he had us laughing and smiling. The food was spectacular, I had rack of lamb which was perfect, my mom had paella which was more than enough for 2 people, my brother had a steak which was done in a few minutes, my dad had lobster on rice which he inhaled and my sister had seafood linguini which she couldn't finish.. THE WORST SERVICE EVERRR!!! I can not stress enough how rude our waiter was - Made someone at our table put their phone down so he could drone on about the specials. All 7 of us ordered multiple drinks and every single time we had to ask for the drink - we were never checked on or asked if we wanted a refill. There for over an hour before we once again had to wave over our waiter and ask to order- the restaurant was not at all full... Anyway anyone who ordered fish liked their meal. My aunt got my wife and I a gift card for this restaurant as a Christmas present. We live in the area and have a 4 month old son. The website makes the place look a little fancy so I called ahead since it was a Saturday evening l, saying that I've got a fussy 4 month old and wanted to know if it was ok - if they'd have room for us. They saId "of course, we have to welcome our future customers!!" We arrived and were seated immediately at a table to the side. Our server was SUPER friendly and recommended the octopus appetizer and we were not disappointed. I got the bronzino and it was cooked to perfectIon. Baby boy behaved and didn't fuss at all.
