We were a little bummed when we found out P&P was a chain, but truly it doesn't detract from how much we loved it. We've gone a few times within our first month living in Birmingham, and one of those times was during a random snow/ice storm that had shut down almost every other food option. The manager was there running things basically by himself for a while and he remained friendly and on top of things. The pizza was great, the sandwiches were great, the beer and cider selections were great, and I just really like the feel of the place inside. Can't wait to go back when the weather's a little warmer and the outside seating opens up :) read more

Unlike a lot of pizza places in AL, this place actually makes pizza with a crispy crust. And, they do not over cheese the pies...As of now, best pizza in the Ham. This is one of my favorite pizza places in Birmingham. It is a great location in downtown and the staff is super friendly. They have great gluten free pizza with tons of topping options and it's cooked in its own oven. And when you blow the keg you get what's left and a new pint for free.... so nice. We were excited to try this place after reading all the good reviews, but what a disappointment! Arrived about 5:15 and put our pizza order in about 30 minutes later while we drank a beer. Ordered a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. Over an hour later, the pizza finally arrived and was pineapple with no extra cheese (even more absurd of a wait, given the place was maybe half full.) They offered it to us for free, so we gave it to our friends, as we can't stand pineapple on a pizza. The salad also arrived at the same time...over an hour...and without dressing, which took several minutes more. We decided to get another beer at this point, a Blue Pants porter (which was the only one from that brewery on draft.) 10 minutes or so later, some sort of IPA was brought to us. The waitress actually had to have us point at the menu and take it with her to order the right one! After another 20 or so minutes, the right pizza came out and was mediocre at best...not even hot. The bill came around and was wrong too. She corrected it, but I was amazed that no discount whatsoever was given for this disastrous experience...not one single dollar. i live in the apartments above pies & pints and eat here fairly often and have never been disappointed. i don't stray too far from my favorite menu items, though. the grape & gorgonzola pizza is my go to. it's an odd combo that just works so perfectly. the mushroom garlic is also super tasty. the beer selection is bonkers in the best way. check it out! read more

Can I just say the manager of this restaurant and our server was amazing on Sunday night ! We had a horrible experience in Birmingham visiting and the manager treated us with such respect and took the time to walk us 3 ladies and a baby out to our car at night . He ensured our safety and personally escorted us down the street to our car ! I wish I remembered our servers name but her was a great sever. Thanks for awesome service and food read more

Stopped by for some brews and something to eat. I am from Philadelphia and the bars there all have very comprehensive draft beers on tap. Pies & Pints has a good list and it looks like they are constantly refreshing with new beers. The biggest disappointment was the Char Grilled Wings mostly oversized drums that were oily and undercooked. If you order make sure to request well done. read more

With all the illustrious reviews, I really thought Pies & Pints was going to wow the beau and I. We came here on the Sunday night post-Thanksgiving after a long day of errands/house-cleaning and with the Sunday blues. We sat at the bar and I got an Ace Pineapple cider and he took the recommendation of the friendly bartender to get an organic cider which was yummy but unflavored. After perusing the menu and not seeing exactly what we wanted, I decided to order a custom small pie with fresh pineapple, spicy peppers and capicola (spicy ham). We also ordered a dinner sized spinach salad to split as an appetizer. The salad was GINORMOUS (seriously incredible portion) and tasty but it needed a few more toppings to really make it great: I saw maybe 10 sunflower seeds total. Nonetheless, we were impressed and would return just for hearty salad portions. The pizza, however, was pretty lackluster. Had we just ordered this, we would have been pretty disappointed. It was just really 'meh'. Nothing special, at all, especially for the price point. The capicola wasn't spicy (in fact when I nibbled on it solo it tasted more like a sweet ham), the peppers lacked any flavor, and the pineapple was indeed fresh but used sparingly for the $3 topping charge. The marinara used as sauce was borderline ketchup sweet. The dough was bland and nothing to write home about. All in all, we kind of regretted not executing our initial dinner idea of just buying one of those premade crusts and doing 'left over pizza' at home with scraps from Thanksgiving. We won't be ordering pizza here again. The location is fantastic and the staff seems really sweet so it's a bummer the pizza is 'meh'. If we do return, we'll stick to salads or try the wings. read more

We happened upon Pies & Pints on a Sunday night. There was no wait and we were seated on the patio so we could enjoy the nice weather. The service was prompt and informative. Our server explained their concept and offered some suggestions. We split a salad (the small was huge and enough for two) and ordered a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and ham for dinner. I thought the pizza crust was especially delicious. Is it the best pizza in Birmingham? Probably not but it didn't disappoint. We'll be back! read more

I'll start by saying I'm originally from New Jersey - a very Italian area of the state, too. I know what pizza is. This is not pizza. This is melted cheese on some kind of bread. Honestly, you're way better off with Papa John's (gasp) or DiGiorno's from the supermarket. I don't know how they do it, but the dough does not resemble pizza dough at all. It's like a light, thick, moist bread. It's just inconceivable that they tested different recipes and settled on this. It's just horrible really. The beer is fine, the place has the small pub atmosphere, maybe some other things on the menu are good. But at the end of the day - the place is billing itself as a pizza joint. They even use "Little Italy" in their name. This is not Italian pizza. It's not New York / New Jersey pizza. It's not Chicago pizza. It's not even as good as most frozen pizza. Seriously, don't do it. read more

Went here with a group because Post Office ran out. Great beer selection, good service, lame pizza. Of the three things our group got the only thing I finished was a slice of was the margarita. I'd have preferred Mellow Mushroom or even Papa Johns. Go to Post Office or Slice instead (support local). read more

Margarita pizza is horrible. A simple pizza made disgusting. Went back to give this restaurant another try, but I won't be returning in the future. We dined here a couple of months ago...it was unorganized and a little disappointing. Our server was clearly new or having a very bad night; he was nice but seemed really frazzled. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (listed on the menu), and was brought a glass of Malbec and told that this was similar. No, one is white, one is red. When the manager came over to inquire about our service, he offered to get the Sauvignon Blanc himself; after being gone for about 20 min, he then came back and offered me the same Malbec. I somehow ended up with Chardonnay towards the end of my meal, which is fine, but knowing reds from whites is a pretty basic thing that any restaurant manager should know. Food was just okay, I had a white pizza with cheese and grapes. We were given a gift card for a free pizza, which was very nice. Hopefully service is a little smoother now that they've been open a few months. read more

This place was ok. The service was really slow. They were not very busy and we waited almost 30 mins for our check and another twenty to get that back. The pizza wasn't anything to write home about. The salad was decent and a great size for the price. The waitress was rather pushy as well. She pretty much made us order this kids plate for our child because he doesn't use a fork properly yet and he didn't even eat it. He ate our food instead. The kids plate is just shredded cheese, grapes, cold chicken, and pineapple. After we told her we were not ordering beer she pretty much didn't want to wait on us. The reason I am giving this place 3 stars is another waiter that was there. He was average height and African American. I wish I got his name. He took very good care of his tables and in between came over to play with our son. Then made a point to say goodbye to us as we left. This place has a ton of taps of very good beers. They've got a little something for everybody, plus some great food to go with it if your hungry. But on a nice spring day in Birmingham it was hard to get up and leave this place when they had the windows and walls all opened up and the afternoon breeze blowing through. This is a great pitstop to make downtown near the start of the rotary trail, and also a great place to figure out what local breweries you might want to go check out in person. read more

Great new restaurant in Birmingham! The staff is friendly from the moment you walk in the door. They are passionate about their pizza and all they have to offer! They keep the atmosphere fun and light! I have a gluten allergy and they were very excited to tell me, all my options. They took my allergy seriously and encouraged me to try the gluten free pie! Went on a Sunday night wth a friend who had not been to Pies & Pints before. We were seated immediately, and Chase was our server. He was very attentive. We started with pizza skins and then split a Chicken Gouda and a Classic. Everything was delicious. Will definitely be back! read more

The food here was excellent... but the service was poor. The servers came out multiple times with the wrong orders and it took about 15 minutes to get a beer. In addition, it took approximately 45 minutes to get our checks, and when we did, most of them were wrong. We were part of a large table, so we'll chalk it up to a new place with new staff working out the kinks. Either way, we'll be back and hopefully things will be a bit more efficient. read more

The best thing I've eaten here is their grilled wings. They are very meaty and the creamy blue cheese dressing that comes with them is delicious. They are char-grilled...so if you aren't a fan of charred meat, you may want to order something else. That's my go-to meal there. The beer selection is awesome - they have the "digital pour" which allows you to follow what they have on tap via app, so you never miss out on your favorite brew or you can peruse the beer menu well in advance of your arrival. This is the only restaurant in Birmingham that has the digital pour -- something I've only seen in a few larger cities. Just FYI, the salads are ridiculously HUGE (even the smalls), so order a small as a meal or share unless you are extremely hungry. The pizza I've tasted was pretty good - but nothing fabulous. The service could improve quite a bit. The 4 times I've gone, I had good service once. The other 3 times the wait staff were inattentive and somewhat flighty. read more
