I got a classic lox bagel sandwich with herb cream cheese and on an everything bagel. They had also put in tiny peppers in the sandwich which was a great touch. Solid bagel--plenty of lox in there! As a native New Yorker, I am picky about bagels. Pigeon's are legit. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. They are a bit pricey but it's the only bagel in town worth eating. Their coffee is very good as well, as is their herb cream cheese and their vegan lox (smoked carrot slices). Eat these bagels fresh (don't toast them on the same day you buy them). I had the cappuccino and it was yummy although very small. We had to wait in line outside in the cold, but the line will move fast, so don't worry! I kind of wish that they had a bigger storefront with seating. Only because you end up eating in your car(if you are going to stay out and about), or you have to drive home. That kind of makes for a non-day out kind of thing. My other gripe is maybe they could have more variety in the menu, but it is still a nice option for breakfast/lunch. There is street parking outside and the interior is small with no tables to sit at (this is a carry out kind of place!). They have about 8 bagel types to choose from and 6 or so spreads. They sell tubs of cream cheese, lox, etc as well and do $6 bags of day old bagels (6 bagels). We ordered the lox on rosemary salt bagel with herb cream cheese ($11) and the seeded marble bagel with honey fig cream cheese ($4). Service was a little slow, but overall not bad. Was a little disappointed that the bagel is not toasted before it is assembled (we were not asked if we wanted this, so I'm assuming this is standard for them?). The bagel itself is very dense and chewy with a solid crust on the outside. I tend to like my bagels on the fluffier side, and found this one hard to chew. The seasoning on top was generous and great tasting. The bagel to spread ratio was perfect. The star was the cream cheeses. The honey/fig cream cheese was fantastic! They also give you a decent amount of lox (around 5 or so pieces), but honestly not worth the $11 price tag. Overall, I think the price tag for this place is a little high and is not anything special compared to chain bagel places like Brueggers or Panera. OMG, these are the best bagels I think I've ever had! The absolutely perfect balance of crisp outside and chewy, heavenly inside. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. They are also huge. The best bagels, of course, also make the best lox and bagels with cream cheese. Hands down the most expensive ever, and I almost choked on the price, but definitely worth it for an occasional treat. Unfortunately, the bagel-y goodness doesn't last, and they are nowhere near as good the next day as when purchased fresh. This is, however, just a normal characteristic of the best bagels, so buy fresh, buy often. They are still worth stocking up on and freezing, if for no other reason than the fact that the lines are long and parking tight, and especially now during COVID, who wants to be out shopping any more often than is absolutely unavoidable? But it's also a locally-owned small business, so how much better is that to support than a chain whose bagels aren't even close to as good to start with? read more

I got a classic lox today, served with a generous portion of salmon and capers, making each bite a delicious salty and smokey bomb. They are currently doing contactless order, so when you go the front of the store you call to put in your order and insert your credit card. I ended up getting the Lox. The orders also come out super quickly. The lox was delicious! The bagel was perfectly chewy but also soft. The combo of the salmon, cream cheese, capers and onion was perfect. My only issue is the prices are definitely on the higher side. My bagel sandwich was $11. They do have lots of vegetarian options which is nice. The bagels are expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. The balance of exterior crust with chewiness is just right, and the flavor is that of a bagel, not of bread. My parents, who used to live in the bagel utopia of New Jersey, were also quite impressed. I truly can offer my unqualified approval. My friend recommended this place after a night out on the town when I was craving a bagel. I'm not sure if it's true, but he told me Pigeon Bagels is the only hand rolled bagel place in the city. Set in the heart of Squirrel Hill, we arrived around 10 am. There was a short line that was quickly served. I ordered an everything bagel with the classic Lox. They were unfortunately out of everything, so I got garlic sea salt, and it paired perfectly with the cream cheese, onion, capers, and salmon. The bagel was pretty darn close to New York's and fresh as can be. Multiple women were working hard and nonstop behind the counter. My friend said there is usually much more of a line and was happy with our short wait. This is a 100% Kosher bagel shop, so don't expect any bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. Stopped by Pigeon for a Sunday morning bagel treat. The line was very long and was moving very slow, however I understand that this is due to Covid precautions and appreciate the measures they are taking to keep their staff safe. If you go, you will look at the menu on the outside of the building then call the phone number listed. You will then place your order via phone and use a chip reader that is placed outside. Then, someone from the shop will place an order on a shelf outside, and you can grab it. Be aware there is no menu elsewhere, so (if you're like me) it can be a tad *stressful* trying to place your order under a perceived time constraint. I am rating this 3/5 stars due to the quality/cost ratio. We ordered a lox bagel sandwich, a bagel with cream cheese and fig spread, and a mini pumpkin pie. The total was over $20 for these three items. Unfortunately, I dont feel that the quality of the food validated the high price point. The bagel itself was good, but not above and beyond your standard bagel. Lox sammy was definitely salty, but the mini pumpkin pie was DELISH! If you are in the Squirrel Hill area and there doesn't seem to be a big line, its a good place to go for a bagel and cream cheese + a coffee, but expect to pay for it! There aren't a lot of small businesses that offer good bagels in Pittsburgh. Pigeon Bagels is the gem we needed. Located off Wightman Street in Squirrel Hill, parking can be a bit tricky because there are lot of apartment buildings on the street and they are currently using a bit of their parking lot to adhere to COVID standards. However, I was able to find parking easily this morning when I stopped by. They have a great selection of bagels, toppings, spreads, and drinks. We went with two bagels- one plain with the fig & honey schmear and one everything with plain schmear. Both were so delicious & tasted super fresh. Chewy, like a good bagel should be. To order, I just walked up to the table outside of the door and called the number on the table, placed my order, put my card into the little square reader, and waited for my order. I heard good things about their vegan lox bagel so I decided to make the 3hour trip to spend the day eating my way around pittsburgh. Looks like they sell out of their house made bagels pretty quickly because only marble and sea same were left when I arrived but it was still a tasty bagel so no complaints! Finally got to Pigeons Bagels. I ordered a half dozen bagels to take home, and a plain bagel with plain cream cheese to test out if these really are the best bagels in Pittsburgh. The bagel itself was well made -- chewy with a good crust. The cream cheese, however, had a strange almost gritty texture that I did not enjoy. Perhaps the flavoured varieties are better. That being said, I don't usually buy cream cheese at bagel places (except in NYC), so Pigeon is ok by me. If it weren't for Gussy's Bagels, I would anoint Pigeon as the best. Great new bagel spot! Bagels are so soft and fresh. I had the everything bagel with herb cream cheese and they put a ton of cream cheese on it which I love. The menu on yelp said they have iced coffee but today they only had cold brew. We came at a busy time so the line was about 15 min but there is not always a line. Bagels are taken to go because there isn't space during the busy time to eat inside so we ate ours outside. Park on the street and they take credit cards! read more

I have not tried many bagel places around Pittsburgh, but I feel like I don't have to keep searching for a great bagel because I found it at pigeon bagels. Currently, they are taking orders at their window rather than allowing customers inside and they require you to wear a mask while ordering. I tend to order the garlic and sea salt bagel with plain cream cheese, but they have a ton of different topping options like capers and lox. They put a ton of cream cheese on the bagel and it is the perfect texture of chewy and crispy. They have great coffee as well to pair with your bagel! If you get there early enough they sell discounted "day old bagels". I think they sell 6 bagels in each bag and it only costs $6. I would buy their bagels regardless of the cost, but it's nice that they try not to waste any bagels. read more

Finally a decent bagel place in the burgh. I stopped in for a cup of coffee and a bagel on a snowy morning. I was there by 8am, proud of myself thinking 'hey I beat the line and the crowd' As I walked in I was told that a crew had already come in an bought much of their daily supply. I settled for a marble everything bagel. The quality of my coffee was good. Was it the best latte I have ever gotten? No. Close? Not really. Better than starbucks? Definitely. Creamy, not too bitter, but missing that deep flavor that can be accented oh so wonderfully by the milk. My bagel was exactly what I want in a bagel. Chewy with out being hard. How I describe it, you take a bite into a soft cloud of a bagel, then proceed to masticate just until the point where you jaw begins to fatigue - but never to the point where your jaw hurts or you are like 'is this gum?' Perfect taste and texture. Ultimately it failed the 5 star mark for two reasons. First as previously mentioned, the coffee. If you are going to charge me coffee shop prices for a latte, I will judge you against coffee shops. Secondly, and more importantly, I was really hoping for a bagel sandwich. They don't do them there, and that is ok. But for a hungry guy looking for breakfast, I wish they had them.
