PIKKITO--which means "little kiss" in Peruvian--was my first time seeking to eat at a restaurant attached to a gas station, which added a "wait, what?" moment. Upon entering, the first thing that hits: chickens on the rotisserie, and honestly, I haven't seen that since Boston Market a decade ago. I ordered at the counter, and a few minutes later the worker came by offering my dining partner and me chicken soup as a little extra gesture--hot, delicious, and very welcome. I had cilantro rice and black beans alongside my chicken, all perfectly done. The flavors here are solid and a great introduction for me to Peruvian cuisine. Why not five stars? The vibe is minimal and casual--gas station setting and all--so it's more functional than cozy or lively. Still, the food is excellent, and I'll absolutely be back for more. read more

The owner is soooo kind and told me he was impressed I was ordering this much just for myself, so he decided to gift me an Inca Kola, which is a sweet soft drink with a lemony flavor - similar to sprite but more concentrated. It was admittedly a little warm inside, maybe because the AC wasn't working. I got the lomo saltado, which reminded me of college days when my dining hall would serve this!! I had the seafood paella which was okay; was not particularly well-seasoned. I do love paella, but something about this one did not happen to sit well with me. Could be a food sensitivity to a certain ingredient, but didn't feel the best for a couple days following. Generous portion and is okay for 1-2 people. Server was very friendly but not too knowledgeable on the menu. Lighting is extremely bright in the restaurant and overall, interior could use some help. The sauces they give are really great - Would love to see Pikkito switch to not storing them in plastic for people dining in, though. This hidden gem at the gas station is a great find. The Peruvian food is quite unique. The Tropical Pikkito is the signature dish with rotisserie chicken, cilantro rice, sweet plantain and black beans. Another chicken soup dish we tried has some fragrant herb taste which I'm still trying to figure out when I get home. The price is very reasonable. My colleague recently took me to Pikkito, after I shared some photos from my trip to Cusco, Lima, and Machu Picchu. I had mentioned how Lima is the gastronomic capital of South America and talked about how much I loved trying traditional Peruvian dishes--especially Lomo Saltado, one of my favorites. I was excited to try the Lomo Saltado. We both ordered it--he paired his meal with a Pisco Sour, and I had a Chicha Morada, the refreshing purple corn drink. The food came out promptly, and the presentation was decent. However, I found the beef to be overcooked, quite chewy, and overly salty for my taste. The portion of fries and rice was generous, but limited protein for a $19 entree. I also wish the beef had been cut into smaller pieces to prevent it from being so tough. Overall, it was an okay experience--I appreciated the effort but had hoped for a bit more authenticity and tenderness in the dish. It's definitely a pricier restaurant. read more

This was one of my favorite meals on my Wisconsin trip. We were on our way to Taliesin and I was looking for something unique in Middleton. I found it at Pikkito and loved my lunch here. My husband and I shared a whole chicken with 3 sides. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. I would highly recommend this place. The food was so good! We stumbled in during restaurant week and they managed to accommodate us without a reservation. The ceviche was fantastic and my husband really enjoyed the lomo saltado. She said it's in the bag in little plastic containers a cilantro sauce . I told her I can't eat cilantro . I removed the containers from the bag . Visited Pikkito for the first time for a weekend dinner. The venue was conveniently located just outside of downtown Middleton. The spot is next to a gas station so you can get your food and a fill up at the same time. Overall, the Peruvian food was good. I ordered the lomo saltado which was ~$20 with tax and the dish overall was good. The steak was well seasoned and cooked a good medium rare. The fries were crispy and the rice texture was satisfying. My partner ordered the Tropical Pikkito (~$16 with tax) which was a 1/4 chicken with sweet plantains, rice, and beans. I was most impressed with the seasoning of the chicken. The chicken skin was really good (crispy and moist). The Tropical Pikkito seems really worth in my opinion given the variety of sides and just how tasty the chicken was. Wasn't a huge fan of the tap water, something about it tasted off and I'll likely get a different beverage next time. If you like Peruvian food, given Pikkito a shot! read more

I cannot WAIT to come back here again. This was a fantastic meal and a great experience. The gentleman behind the counter was wonderful and had clear pride in his restaurant, and helped us find our way to the most fantastic Agua fresca I've ever had (chicha). My tropical pikkito was delicious. So flavorful, such perfectly cooked chicken, aromatic rice and beans that were the best I've ever had and the sweetest plantains that offered the absolute perfect contrast. I only wish there had been more of all of it, but that was because i devoured it way too quickly, not because the portion size wasn't perfectly appropriate. The restaurant itself is spacious, bright and welcoming and there is plenty of seating to share a wonderful meal with friends and family. Those that know me know I save five stars for those ultra rare dining occasions that really knock my socks off; Pikkito is a great example of a place that makes me wonder why I do that.
