I needed a bridesmaid dress tailored-- nothing too major, just some minor adjustment to raise the hem and add some cup liners. My seamstress was so wonderful! I had three fittings, and she was very helpful when I was unsure how much to raise the hem. The dress turned out beautifully, and the price was as expected. I haven't been to "The Arts District" since I've moved here and what a way to be introduced. The ladies at Pincushion are A-MA-ZING!! And yes, although it may be a bit of a MAZE to get here with the construction going on, there is easy access down the alleyway fronting Vesta Coffee Roasters in the fenced in parking area just before the car sales lot. The shop is so cute and quaint as you enter, very clean and inviting. The owner Abby and her seamstress (I forgot her name) was so welcoming and accommodating. It took me less than a half hour (including some chatting with the ladies) to get my Hawaiian wedding dress pinned up and ready to be altered at such a reasonable price and in a short amount of time (we leave for Hawai'i in 2 weeks). I look forward to returning for my final fitting and definitely recommend this place for its friendly service, great rates and artsy atmosphere!! read more

I can't believe I was so let down, smh... I stumbled upon Pincushion back in January after all of my equipment was stolen from me. The owner and a very friendly employee listened to my story, Lear ed about the type of apparel I make, and then proceeded to give me a tour. I remember how excited I was at the sight of a top-coverstitch machine!! I always wanted to get my hands on one.. and they told me to come rent the space sometime and I could! I went back in March with a long-time client whom I often make samples for. The same two women were there, and we confirmed that all the equipment I would need was there in the shop. This would be specifically a serger, a double-needle coverstitch, a grommet press & size-0 (or close) grommets, polyester or nylon thread, & shears. Now it's June and I have a serious client who wants his product! I called Pincushion to make the reservation and speak to an unfamiliar employee. I ran over the list with her and said if I need to bring any of these items I need to know now.. grommets, thread, etc. She assured me that was all available, unless I'm particular on thread color. I packed everything up, headed there in a Lyft, and to my disbelief.. the only thing available to me was a straight-stitch machine. Turns out this is yet another employee unfamiliar to me, and she apologized that I was misinformed. She said too many who don't know how to operate the industrial machines properly have caused them to recently stop renting them out, no exceptions! NO EXCEPTIONS??! I even have samples of my work. The quality is clearly professional. I'm not a hobbyist, I'm running a business! Why have the shop at all then?! I can order a straight-stitch for like $170 new. I went to Pincushion because I can't fork over the $2,000 it would take just to get the bare minimum equipment. They refunded the rent payment, but I am still LIVID!!! I could talk all day about it, but simply put, the business did nothing to accommodate me, even after being carelessly misled. We offered to pay additional rent for the equipment we needed.. anything, whatever it takes. But no, I had to pack up and head home in utter disappointment. read more

Total gem of a spot that offers alterations, classes, and ample workspace for the hobbyist. I took a 6 week UNLV class to learn how to sew, but without a sewing machine I had nowhere to practice my newfound skills. Enter Pincushion! For $10 an hour you can come in and work on projects and use their machines, notions (which is a cute sewing term I learned), and big, fabulous work tables. The staff is nice and Abby is a doll of a human and she helped me get over my "serger terror." A year later I have my own machine, but still take projects in to work on, and I plan on doing another one her "Pattern of the Month" classes soon! The only "business" I have done with Pincushion thus far (I only recently discovered them) has been to take the "sewing basics" class with Abby. I was so, so happy with my experience! She is very friendly and welcoming, she made me feel relaxed and at ease despite my beginner status, and she is very knowledgeable regarding what she does. I have taken one other intro to sewing class before this one, and I remember leaving the building when it was finished feeling like I still didn't know much. That did not happen with this class; Abby did not just jump in and do something for us if we were stuck, but instead she would further instruct us and watch as we did it ourselves. I left feeling like I was taking with me a wealth of knowledge and feeling confident in my new sewing skills. I had a lot of troubles getting pregnant, so when I finally got to have my sweet baby girl in my arms, I knew I wanted to do something special! I lost 3 babies through miscarriage and found a way to donate my wedding dress for volunteers to take the fabric and turn wedding dresses into burial gowns for still born babies. For me, this was the most perfect memorial, but I still wanted something with a little bit of my dress. I asked Abby (owner) if she could take my wedding dress and turn it into a bonnet and booties for my daughter's baptism. She exceeded my expectations! She asked me about my favorite parts of the gown, memories from the day, and little did I know she had remembered those memories when making them! For example, I loved the straps of my dress and they became the bootie straps. I had also said I loved the lace and the whole bonnet was made of lace. I had also mentioned I loved the idea of her having something to also use at her wedding (something old) and she made the bonnet so that she can use it as a handkerchief for her wedding! I couldn't be happier! If you are wanting to do something with your dress that is just sitting in your closet, have Pincushion make something special that you can treasure!!!! We have also purchased baby booties with grippies on the bottom for our daughter. She loves them! They are breathable (better than the socks we've tried), durable and soooooo cute! We are already planning baby a Moana bootie/bib set for her first birthday from Pincushion! read more

Abby is fantastic! I needed a bridesmaid dress altered and true to my nature, I waited until the last possible minute to look for places. I messaged around asking for a quote and not only was Abby's half of what everyone else quoted, her response time was quick.
