This places it in the rolling, beautiful, peaceful, lovely foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range (gold country). I've stayed at this lovely hotel many times and had dinner at their (also fantastic) sister restaurant, Taste (same block). Rest has a nice happy hour in the lobby area with circular seating and a fire where they serve free (really good) wine for guests, who can socialize and relax before dinner or turning-in. I've met quite a few nice folks there and the majority are touring the 40+ wineries in the area (really nice wineries like Turley, Helwig, Andis, Terra d'Oro, Iron Hub and so many more). They serve many of the wines from the area, which is known for old-vine Zinfandel, Barbera, Rhône varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre) and lots of small, family-owned wineries rather than the big guys in Napa and Sonoma. Different vibe. You can also visit historic Gold Country sites in and around the hotel, which makes for some interesting side trips. It's also just gorgeous to drive around. Lots of farm-to-table restaurants and other attractions. I love this area. This is also HORSE COUNTRY. There are many horse properties, horse trainers, coaches in every discipline, ranches and close-by is the legendary Murieta Equestrian Center if you're interested in competitions and shows (reining, ranch riding, cutting, western pleasure, sorting/penning, versatility, dressage, hunter/jumper, and such). Fabulous venue for horses. All of this glorious activity can be accessed from this beautiful, humble, delightful little boutique hotel.

We truly love exploring Gold Country which is always rich with history. The Imperial Hotel is a hidden gem and I can't wait to come back. Built in 1879, but restored several times over the years the Imperial Hotel was a perfect place to grab lunch. We will definitely have to consider staying the next time we are up this way. We sat outside on the most perfect day that was a little breezy but with the perfect amount of sunshine! They have a great outdoor patio with fire pits for cooler days. We ordered the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich with lettuce, pickled onion, aioli, and herb fries. Delicious! The chicken was really tender and the aioli was on point. We also ordered a harvest salad that had beets and sweet potatoes. It was also really flavorful. We ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and the Cinsault Blend. Both were wonderful and even better since we were able to try these local wines.

It's located in a charming off the beaten path historic Gold Country town in Amador Co. that exudes charm in every direction. Amador City is rural and hasn't changed much in many years. The Imperial is a historic hotel with overnight rooms to rent and a dining room/bar. I came for dinner and am so glad I did. Although I made a reservation, it didn't seem necessary, but I would, just in case. The interior is so warm and cozy, and the historic elements make for a beautiful backdrop. We had a nice table for two against the brick wall that was intimate and yet connected to the ambiance of the room. Our server, a delightful woman, was friendly and professional. I started with a Pick Axe Freezer Martini with gin, and oh my gosh, it was a powerhouse of flavor and exuberance. It had a delightful wallop. It comes with a round cut glass side tray of things to add- olives, onion, etc. for one's individual taste. We had the bread service with warm, freshly made bread and a sun-dried tomato, basil, and garlic sauce for spreading or dipping. DELICIOUS! For the first course, I had a bowl of the clam chowder that was superb, creamy, delicate, and nicely mixed with bacon, carrots, croutons, etc, yet seemed devoid of clams. I won't hold it against them as the soup's consistency and taste were magnificent. There were two specials, a rack of lamb or a tuna poke bowl. I had heard that the scallops were very good, but they were substituting shrimp that day. I chose the lamb, and my dining partner had the poke bowl. Both were excellent. The lamb was fresh, nicely crusted, and cooked perfectly. The only criticism is a couple of times I tasted a small clump of salt, similar to Kosher salt. Since I use little salt in my own cooking, it really hits me when it's not well integrated into a dish and/or overpowering. Overall, the meal was excellent. It was relaxed, interesting, and an adventure into history, too. This place really has it down, and I highly recommend getting there for a very nice meal amongst the historical delights.

We stayed in a king room with a balcony, which was spacious and featured an incredibly comfortable bed and pillows--no complaints at all. National Hotel Jackson by Hilton, Jackson, CA…read more I'm staying here tonight in Jackson, California, at the National Hotel. It's an older motel-style property with a lot of history, and it shows in a charming, mixed-modern way. Historic charm + updated touches:** The hotel has kept its vintage character while updating as much as possible. You can really feel the history in the design, artifacts, and mirrored features spread throughout the building. The carpets are clean, I've walked on them with white socks and nothing is coming up or looking worn. Just one small smudge spotted, which isn't a big deal for me. Wi-Fi is Fast and reliable, which is great for staying connected for work. The front desk staff is amazing. Tamara, in particular, was kind, patient, and helped me check in my room smoothly. It's all-around excellent service. There are interesting artifacts and standout mirror features that add to the character of the place. Parking is across the street and you have to cross a small bridge. The parking is covered, which is nice, but the walk with luggage can be a pain for a solo traveler. I hoped for a larger bath to soak in, but the tub was quite small--barely fit. If soaking is important to you, this might be a disappointment. Some of the drawers are a bit beat up and hard to operate; they don't always slide smoothly back into place. Breakfast starts at 6:00 AM, which is rough if you need to be at work early (like me at 5 AM). A later start or grab-and-go option would be nicer for early-risers. Overall, I'd rate this place a solid 4 stars for the staff and the overall feel. It's a thoughtfully kept historic hotel that leans into its roots while still offering practical amenities like fast Wi‑Fi and clean rooms. If you're in Jackson for business or a short stay and can roll with the older-motel layout, you'll likely enjoy it. Tips for future guests It's old and creaky - light sleepers forget it. If you're solo and luggage-heavy, check in first and then grab a trolley. If soaking is important, you might want to set expectations for a standard tub rather than a soaking tub. If breakfast timing is critical for you, arrange a backup plan. Would I stay here again? Yes, for the staff, charm, and value. If you're drawn to historic hotels with character and solid service, this is a good pick in Jackson.
