Hm. I've eaten quite a few biscuits in my time and Pine State did not register as memorable whatsoever. I opted for this spot since it's the least busy of all the locations. I ordered a build your own biscuit and got cheese, egg and bacon. I also ordered a side of shiitake mushroom gravy which sounded pretty good. I was not blown away. In fact I thought this place's biscuits were actually pretty mediocre. The bacon was thin and crispy and the egg was cooked just fine but I didn't even end up eating the entire biscuit because I simply didn't want to. I figure if he can talk about the breakfast at PSB incessantly, then it must be pretty darn good. Fast forward to Labor Day weekend, 2018. We woke up and headed to Pine State. We had to prep the body for a full day of debauchery ahead.... an all day Brewery tour. Line was long, it started outside. This goes to show how epic PSB is. Waited around 20 minutes to get to the front counter to order. I ordered the Reggie; which is fried chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy. (Except, I ordered mine without cheese.) Husband gets the Reggie Deluxe,which is the same sandwich but with an egg. **** PRO TIP; always, always, always....ask for EXTRA gravy!!!! These sandwiches are addicting. This was the perfect ending to my trip to Portland as I wanted to have a blast of the best breakfast in the entire city. I had the Reggie that came with a chicken breast with bacon and cheese and egg which I had covered in their shitake mushroom gravy. It was absolutely delicious and not once did I use a fork or knife to eat it. Every bite was incredible to experience. My Girlfriend had the "build your own" with sausage, egg, cheese and sausage gravy. We shared a large plate of hash browns that had what looked to be paprika (but didn't taste like it) with a sprinkle of parsley. The coffee was good as was the freshly squeezed orange juice. They are soft and light and fluffy. The gravy is really the spotlight. It's not at all traditional, but still super savory. I gotta be honest. The this place is just OK across the board, nothing more, nothing less. The only thing that's better than ok about this place is the actual restaurant itself. Why? Well the food wasn't impressive, but did taste ok. Neither I or my date cared to finish eating our order. I eventually at the rest of my order the next day. Came by for a quick breakfast last week and had a great meal. We ordered the Reggie Deluxe and the BBQ Brisket. The Reggie Deluxe was my favorite as it had all the things you want in a breakfast sandwich smothered in gravy. My only wish is that they would put a little more gravy on it. The BBQ brisket was decent but just wished it had a different sauce or a gravy for it just like the Reggie does. Now for why it's 4 stars and not 5. It was mainly because of the staff and the wait time. It was not a busy day and there was only 2 people that ordered ahead of us when we got there. The good thing is that the line moves fairly quickly and people don't stay for too long since there's not really any privacy. This location seems to be way less busier than the other two, so if you don't want to wait for a ridiculously long time, I'd come here instead. First time here, by a recommendation of the hotel staff. Within walking distance from the Marriott Courtyard. I thought it was too rich and heavy for breakfast biscuits, but I was rather surprised how some of the selections go down pretty easily... with lots of coffee. The coffee, as you would expect in Portland, is robust and delicious that complements my biscuits. If you are thinking about the delicate English afternoon tea biscuits, that's not what you will get here. They are all accompanying hearty egg, fried chicken, thick-cut bacon, and so forth. The plate of hash is something you gotta try with your biscuits. It's in a weird, warehouse district, with very un-assuming exterior, with small seating area. In all, it's small breakfast option that seems to be a good choice since you'll inevitably be eating all day in Portland while you visit! Although it was too salty overall, we thought the bacon was cooked perfectly and the sausage was excellent. The mushroom gravy was thick and heart. I thought the biscuit was a little dry - could've been fluffier. I wish I'd used some of the Texas Pete Hot Sauce, because I think it would have elevated the biscuit sandwich from an Average to an Amazing. The winner was the "Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes". The blueberries were sweet and tangy, contrasting well with the masa flavor. I found the maple syrup to have a subtle flavor that was great for the pancakes. Ordered our food to go - Reggie Delux with the gravy on the side. The sandwiches were packed up nicely to avoid any sogginess. Somehow during my visit in Portland, I ended up having Pine State Biscuit twice. Although it's nothing out of this world (as I keep comparing this place to Biscuit Bitch in Seattle), it was still good to have me coming back since it's a solid, yummy, and quick breakfast to grab while the rest of my group was getting ready. Between my two visits, I was able to try the Reggie Deluxe ($10.50), Mcisley ($8), and Hash Up ($6) with Steak ($5). All three items were promising, but nothing too special. There seemed to be too much going on for the Reggie Deluxe with the gravy, egg, and cheese that it wasn't even much of a sandwich, but a mixture of all the ingredients tossed together. On the other hand, the Mcisley was more simple with just fried chicken, pickles, and this very potent honey mustard sauce. This honey mustard sauce was strong of spice, yet sweet --paired well, but a bit too overpowering. As for the Steak Hash Up, I was probably most disappointed with. It definitely didn't taste as amazing as it look, but solid. It could've use more toppings too. Overall, a-okay breakfast spot. P.S. Order beforehand and pick up within 10-15 minutes. The biscuits are not vegan according to an employee. This was a horrible experience overall. I love Pine State in southeast so on our way to Seattle I decided to show my friend a great local biscuit spot. I assumed they had many vegan options because of their use of alternative meats but we had to go to a different restaurant entirely to find dairy free. Long story short, you have to order online or "by phone" but the phone doesn't work and when you order online it says the order will take until 9:50 when I ordered at 8:58 am. That ended up being inaccurate and the whole process was frustrating and confusing (especially before a morning coffee). I got my usual and it tasted good but still had to find another breakfast spot for my friend. Not a great impression.
